Chapter 165 A Snake

Due to being disturbed, Arthur created a ball of fire which then floated in the air and followed the tree trunk. It had a sun-like shape, so its light spread everywhere.

Isabel and Nova stared at the fireball, the former showing a satisfied expression because her vision finally became clear.

Of course, just because there was light around didn't mean the tributary became less terrifying. If an ordinary person followed Arthur and the others now, he would surely be very scared.

When you looked ahead, you would feel the sensation of heading towards an unpleasant place or a place full of deadly ghosts.

Even looking at the river water below could give you a sensation as if you would drown forever if you fell into it.

Occasionally, there were sounds of owls, which when combined with the night wind, could make someone shiver in fear.

Isabel's eyes moved left and right, as if she was alert that a certain creature might jump towards them.

Although she continued to try to suppress her nervousness, it still surfaced occasionally, appearing as though she could not control it.

This was somewhat funny to Arthur because she usually appeared very dignified.

The change in her expression and mood could naturally not escape Nova's gaze. She did not feel nervous here because she had entered the forest at night enough times to accompany her wolves on a hunt.

Seeing Isabel's expression now, she did not know whether to laugh or cry. It made her realize that this woman indeed still had the mentality of an ordinary human.

Of course, there were dangers around.

Arthur had seen bears watching them several times. That was only because they were above the river, so the bears could not attack them.

Currently, he was more often observing the water below. The spiritual energy here was quite dense, so there might be Spiritual Plants growing. And surely that was better than the Flower of Sorrow he had found in the city park.

"Mm!" A few minutes later, he squinted his eyes as he saw a snake that could be three meters long.

It moved under the water, appearing as if it had just come out of its den because there was a hole not far from it.

Arthur watched the snake because he saw a spiritual aura on its thin skin. It was most likely the result of its contact with Spiritual Plants with a dense aura.

The snake also watched him and the two others, appearing wary.

"It will attack," said Nova. She was clearly used to animals like that.

Arthur smiled and plunged his hand into the river, then wiggled it to provoke the snake.

Because this was its territory, the snake was not too scared and being provoked made it angry quickly.

It moved, sliding towards Arthur's hand.

In the water, it only took a few seconds to arrive in front of his hand. Its mouth was wide open, showing its long fangs.

However, before it could bite Arthur's hand, the hand moved faster, grabbing its head and pressing it until its mouth closed tightly.

"Ah, Arthur, don't let it come near me!" Suddenly Isabel screamed as Arthur pulled the snake up onto the tree trunk.

Looking at her, Arthur found her truly scared, a very funny sight.

"Aunt, one of your lightning bolts can kill this snake," Arthur reminded her that it was only a small creature compared to her.

Isabel realized that her behavior was very embarrassing, she cleared her throat and took a deep breath to calm herself.

"I'm not scared, just surprised," she said, making an excuse.

Arthur responded with a thin smile, as if mocking her.

He then observed the snake, whose eyes stared at him with a cold gleam.

"Don't worry, now show me where the spiritual object that made contact with you is," Arthur said to the snake.

At the same time, he sent his energy to its head, something similar to what he used to tame his tigers.

This did not mean he really wanted to keep the snake, he just wanted it to lead him to the object he desired.

Afterwards, he threw it back into the river and it quickly moved away.

However, it suddenly went to land on the right side of the river.

Arthur did not immediately move, but continued to observe it.

When it arrived on land, the snake turned out to be able to move faster, even easily passing through piles of tree branches.

"Let's follow the snake for a moment," Arthur said to his aunt.

The latter just nodded, looking like she would follow him wherever he went.

Arthur then jumped onto the land, followed by Isabel and Nova.

Although the tree trunk was not tied with rope, it did not move along with the river's current due to Arthur's magical power.

After arriving on land, Arthur and the others made jump after jump as they followed the snake because running would be very difficult with the many tree branches or limbs blocking the way.

It was not difficult even for Isabel because unlike when she jumped onto the previous tree trunk, here, she did not need to maintain any balance.

Compared to Arthur and Nova, her jumps only produced louder sounds.

Not long after, the snake finally stopped, in an open area filled with grass.

However, there was nothing there except a small hole from a previous excavation.

The snake approached the hole, looking confused.

"It seems to have been taken," Arthur said with a furrowed brow.

He said that because he really did not sense the presence of a Spiritual Plant around the area.

Meanwhile, Nova knelt down, then lowered her face to the ground. Her nose sniffed the soil.

Wolves have a stronger sense of smell than dogs. As for Werewolves like Nova, they are naturally better than most wolves.

All they needed to do was activate their nose's power, something they rarely did when they lived as humans.

After a few moments, Nova spoke while looking at Arthur. "There's a human scent here!"

"Can you track it?" Arthur asked.

Nova nodded in response to Arthur's words. She touched her nose, and then took a deep breath, sending more energy to her nose.
