Chapter 65 - 65 Not Offendable
The man was sitting under the eave with his eyes covered by a piece of cloth. The lower half of his face made him look so innocent that he seemed harmless.
No one could’ve imagined such a man heading out late the previous night to beat Zhao Xing until he was half dead, turning him into a disabled person without killing him.
The torture was way worse than killing Zhao Xing.
It was as if Xie Heng had sensed that someone was watching him, and he turned to stare at where Zhao Chuchu was.
Despite having his eyes covered, Zhao Chuchu still felt as if she was being caught and quickly directed her gaze elsewhere.
“He’s not someone to be messed with.” She immediately came to that conclusion in her head.
That was the day when Zhao Chuchu learned that underneath his beautiful face was a cruel heart.
“Chuchu! Where are the bowls and chopsticks? We’re almost done here!” Old Mrs. Chen suddenly yelled from the kitchen, interrupting Zhao Chuchu’s thoughts. “Have someone set the table up too!”
“Coming!” Zhao Chuchu replied and turned to Niu Tongsheng. “Chief, get some rest. Let’s move the table out here. The house’s too small to fit everyone in.”
“Okay!” Niu Tongsheng and the rest nodded and went to wash their hands.
The aroma of rice and meats had already fueled their hunger.
When Niu Tongsheng saw the entire pot of white rice, he couldn’t help but exclaim, “Chuchu! This pot of rice is enough to last at least a few meals if you add some grains to it! Isn’t this too expensive?”
“Not at all. I could only steam some buns for you guys for the past two days because I don’t know how to cook. I’d feel bad if I didn’t treat you guys to something good today. Also, with this meal, it’ll be hard for you to refuse to help me next time, right?” Zhao Chuchu grinned.
Niu Tongsheng couldn’t help but laugh. “Of course. We’re neighbors, after all. All you have to do is ask.”
“Let’s eat! I’m not an amazing cook, so I hope this suits your tastes.” Old Mrs. Chen walked out of the kitchen and helped set the table up. After that, she was ready to head back home.
“Stay and eat with us,” Zhao Chuchu said.
“It’s okay. It’s about dinner time at home too. Just let me know if you ever need my help. If not for you, we would’ve been dead. There’s nothing that I can do that could ever repay that debt.”
No matter what Zhao Chuchu said, Old Mrs. Chen and her daughter-in-law refused to stay and returned home.
In the end, Zhao Chuchu plated a few portions of the meats and vegetables and took them to the Chen family, insisting that they should have some of the food they made too.
Seeing the child at home drooling over the food, Old Mr. Chen said to his wife, “It’s not good to keep rejecting her.”
“Old Mr. Chen is right. I’ll leave them on the table.” Zhao Chuchu grinned and left after putting the food down.
“Grandma, can we eat?” The child gulped. “They look tasty.”
“Wait for your uncles to come back.” Old Mrs. Chen patted her grandson’s head. “Chuchu is different from before.”
“Did you forget how the Zhao family treated her? If she hadn’t learned the medical skill from Da Lang, she would’ve gone crazy. Also, don’t go around spreading nonsense. She’s still the same Chuchu we know.”
“Makes sense…”
That was the end of the conversation about Zhao Chuchu’s changes in the Chen family.
