Chapter 73 - 73 From a Magician’s Hat
“Oh, right! I almost forgot to ask. Do you know anything about the Yuan clan of the Guangqing Province?”
“They’re salt vendors.”
Zhao Chuchu’s eyes widened as she knew that being a salt vendor in the past was a huge thing.
She was surprised that Yuan Hui was from such a huge and prestigious family.
“You already knew that she’s from the Yuan clan?”
“I didn’t.” Xie Heng shook his head. “All I knew was that the person whom Zhao Xing has robbed was not a normal person since the purse I saw was not something a normal person would use.”
Zhao Chuchu was a little skeptical about his answer, but he wasn’t even worried about her suspicion.
However, none of those were important.
If Yuan Hui planned to repay the kindness in the future, then it would be a huge connection for Zhao Chuchu.
Even if the lady she had saved decided to repay that kindness with silvers, she would still be able to gain a lot from that.
What Zhao Chuchu felt more than shock was excitement.
She was now one step closer to achieving her freedom.
Yuan Hui had been resting and recovering in Zhao Chuchu’s room for the past few days, and it had caused quite a few inconveniences. Once Yuan Hui had left, she could start to make the cure for Xie Jun.
The young boy still had no idea that Yuan Hui was living in the house with them.
Zhao Chuchu would ask Yuan Hui to wait until it was late at night to use the toilet or take a bath.
For dinner, Zhao Chuchu prepared fried chicken and fries for Xie Heng and Xie Jun.
Xie Jun had never seen such food and couldn’t stop himself from eating more.
Xie Heng couldn’t help but look at the lady.
Zhao Chuchu grinned and said, “Eat while the food’s still hot. It took me two hours to make them.”
The man moved his gaze back to the food and started eating.
“Did she pull this out of her magic hat or something?” he thought.
Zhao Chuchu didn’t care if Xie Heng was suspicious of her or not.
He was indeed a vicious person, but from another point of view, he was also a gentleman.
He would never be interested in things that had nothing to do with him.
As long as the matter would not threaten him, he would ignore it.
That was why Zhao Chuchu had the guts to share that food with them.
As for Xie Jun, he only cared if the food was good or not. Even if he were to ask Zhao Chuchu, he would believe anything she said.
“So? How is it? I didn’t trick you, right?” Zhao Chuchu smiled. “I’m not as unreliable as you think.”
“It’s not bad.” Xie Heng complimented, which was something that he rarely did.
Xie Jun turned to his brother and said, with food still in his mouth, “What do you mean? This is amazing! Can I have this for dinner tomorrow too?”
“No,” Zhao Chuchu replied.
“Oh…” Xie Jun sounded disappointed, and he decided to eat more that night.
On the other hand, she had prepared buns and congee for Yuan Hui.
She would never give food that did not belong in that time to people other than the Xie brothers.
She didn’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble.
When night fell, the Lengshui Village wasn’t as noisy as it was when the sun was up. Only the chirps of bugs could be heard.
Zhao Chuchu silently carried Yuan Hui out of the village.
Xie Heng stood by the window. He listened to Xie Jun’s calm, sleeping breath as he watched Zhao Chuchu disappear into the night.
It didn’t take long for the two ladies to walk out of the village.
“Chuchu, I can walk on my own,” Yuan Hui whispered.
“How long do you think it’ll take us to get to the town if you walk alone?” Zhao Chuchu said. “I need to hurry back to the village once I get you there.”
“But, isn’t this going to be exhausting?”
“You aren’t even heavy.”
Zhao Chuchu’s pace was so fast that it was almost unbelievable.
Yuan Hui felt as if the wind was blowing past her so fast that all she could hear was the whooshing sound they made.
It only took them 30 minutes to reach the town.
Yuan Hui was so shocked that she couldn’t even react to that.
With a single leap from Zhao Chuchu, Yuan Hui realized they were already in the town, surrounded by a tall wall.
