Chapter 8 Let's Round Up Some Batteries

After a powerful, lustful, and horrifyingly awkward first kiss session, Leon and Caitlyn disconnected their lips.

"That was so hot." Caitlyn shivered.

"I agree." Leon replied in satisfaction.

"So? What now, harem~leader?"

Leon put his hand to his chin, and his eyes glided to the left in thought.

He scanned his surroundings and came to an immediate conclusion.

"The world is being torn apart, and the longer we wait, the less women will be alive." Leon reasoned. "So we'll need to join people asap."

A sharp electric shock went through Caitlyn's brain at the thought of other women.

Her eyes trembled in madness for a moment before she reverted to her original expression.

He pretended not to notice, but he saw it clear as day.

"This is the first wave. I doubt the survival test sought to wipe us out completely." Leon reasoned. "You're incredibly powerful and useful now, but we'll come across stronger foes soon."

Caitlyn was going through an emotional rollercoaster.

"With more women in our party, our chances of survival will increase. I get life-changing perks being with you. I don't want anything to cut my exploration of those benefits short."

Her eyes lit up like a fireworks display when he heard his final words.

"Then what are we waiting for?" Caitlyn asked excitedly. "Let's go round up some batteries."

"It doesn't work that way." Leon chuckled with madness swirling in his eyes. "Your love for me is what makes us powerful, remember. I need people that trust and care about me."

Caitlyn began pouting on the surface but was raging on the inside.

"I won't just let any woman love me or join us. So we'll need to meet people asap and choose carefully." Leon added.

Her mood rebounded instantly.

Leon sighed internally when he saw how volatile and easy to manipulate she was. He had to accept those facts as both as a safety policy.

"First up, what about Lindy and Sarah? You might have been using them to look normal, but they're better than randos." Leon suggested.

Caitlyn pondered the question.

"Surprisingly enough, I'm genuinely friends with the two."

'That's not a good sign….' Leon grimaced.

"I don't like to share, but if I have to do it to survive then they're 10% better than anyone else." Caitlyn pondered aloud.

"I… see." Leon sighed in resignation.

Everything about what she had just said made him shudder, but he'd take it. Even if he summoned his inner Machiavelli, he would never be more than a shadow politician to his leader.

"Let's try to find them, then. Do you know where they were headed?" He asked.

"They were moving to the cafeteria." Caitlyn recalled pensively. "However, I doubt they're still there."

Leon turned his head toward the cafeteria. The entire area was charred and billowing black smoke. Something had razed it, but something else put it out.

"How strange. What were their powers?" He asked while turning back to Caitlyn.

"Lindy asked for the power to make and manipulate water at will." She replied.

"Sarah isn't a fighter. So she asked for legendary support power."

"Smart women…." Leon replied with a profound expression.

He turned his sights toward the cafeteria again.

"Water is essential, so the ability to make it is miraculous." Leon commented.

"As for Sarah, she isn't a fighter. So she chose a power that would make her attractive to any team. They'd be powerful allies, members or not."

Caitlyn nodded in agreement.

"Let's go then. Help me get on your back again and think about ways you can fly me around without choking you." Leon instructed.

"Aw! Your wish is my command, but it still hurts when you give me orders that cruel." She pouted.

Leon's eyebrow twitched in exasperation.

"Okay. Then just fly toward the cafeteria, I'll think about that. You're on protection patrol."

"Thank you for your generosity." Caitlyn squealed in her delight as she helped him onto her back.

"Oh, and I've leveled up independently. So if the choking hurts, let me know." He added.

"... Yes. I… promise… to let you know." Caitlyn replied while trying to hide her enthusiasm.

Leon closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"Caitlyn, it makes me uncomfort—aghhhhhhhhhhhh!"

The two shot in the direction of the cafeteria at an absurd speed.

Despite Leon's interpretation, the angelic psychopath couldn't fly at Mach-4. 3069.08 mph is absurd, and the G force Leon would experience would kill him from blood getting sucked from his brain.

However, she could fly around 90mph already, and 4 G's of gravity made most humans pass out. Luckily, Leon wasn't normal and was now a minor superhuman in addition to leeching 5% of an unworldly creature's power like a parasite.

Therefore, when combined with Caitlyn's wind barrier, he was fully conscious and could experience the sheer terror of certain death at all times.

They reached their location in less than ten seconds and started scanning the ruins.

A young man limped through the charred streets of the Calvin University food district.

He was wearing makeshift bandages from someone's t-shirt. His name was Timothy, and he was in a terrible mood.

"Those fucking cunts! I hope I find her before Able does. When I do, I'm gonna take pleasure in breaking those two!" Timothy declared.

Lindy had Sarah put up a barrier that led to a bat swooping him into the air.

After bullets failed, he summoned a katana out of thin air and cut a wing, causing the bat to fall toward the ground at a slower pace.

When it tried landing, the student killed it, leveling up and increasing his health.

Over the past eight hours, he killed a dozen monsters and twice as many students.

He was now at Level 8, which was the sole reason he was alive. Killing overpowered students was a part of that, so he didn't take pity on them in the slightest.

"Wait, what the hell is that? Is that… screaming?" Timothy asked aloud.

"Aghhhhhhhh! Stooooop, Caitlyn! I'm ordering you to stop!"

"Yes… huuuuh… master… huuuuh…." A young woman panted.

"Wait. Caitlyn!?" Timothy cried.

He looked up in the sky, and that was when he saw an angel getting choked aggressively by a man with a red face.

To his disbelief, he saw Caitlyn's half-naked body getting choked by Leon, of all people.

She was panting up a storm with a strange expression on her face.

"Did she just call that fucker master!?" Timothy cried.

The two were hovering in the air not too far from him.

Caitlyn's face was flushed bright red, and Leon looked exasperated. Despite stopping, he still hadn't stopped choking her!

"That fucker!" Timothy seethed. "She saves you, and then you repay her like this!?"

The young man reflexively created an overpowered compound bow.

His skill [Homing Projectile] allowed him to lock onto his chosen targets and throw or shoot objects that avoided others.

Once created, he created an arrow and pointed it at Leon.

"Hah. Once I save Caitlyn, she'll finally notice me. She might even fall in love!"

Timothy's mind welled with grand delusions as he released the trigger and let his arrow fly.
