Chapter 119 - Urgent
"So why don\'t you tell me the real reason why you\'re putting me through this?" Genson asked after Samuel had left and he put the coffee on Lena\'s desk.
"You mean aside from the demotion due to your attitude?" She asked picking up the coffee and taking a small sip. It was still too warm to fully enjoy.
"I would presume that that isn\'t the only reason why you\'re putting me through this. The princess doesn\'t seem like that much of a petty person." He replied. Lena gave him a hard to read expression before she replied.
"It\'s mostly because of that. On the other hand though, if you\'re taking the position of a personal assistant, it\'ll make people less suspicious if I call you in here for a report or if you have something important to tell me." The second part had been an afterthought for Lena, but to her it just meant everything worked out in the end.
"I\'m twice your age with three times more experience than you, faced harder circumstances and survived to tell the tale and just because of my attitude this is where I found myself now? I was a conman for Christ\'s sake! Of course I am going to be like this, it\'s how I learned to do such a good job with all my previous jobs." Genson exclaimed as a defense to his previous behavior.
"And you also happened to behave in an unprofessional manner during a business meeting to decide your contract and spoke down to my fiancé simply because you think you\'re better than other people because of your status." Lena rebutted just as Samuel came back into the office.
"It\'s one thing to act that way around me, another thing to treat someone close to me that way. Experience and skill is not an excuse to behave the way you did." Genson made a displeased noise but realized it really was going to futile to try and negotiate with the princess who was sitting in front of him. Not only was she more petty than he expected, she was also twice as stubborn despite being so young. If only he didn\'t care about money so much he would\'ve left this morning and not look back once.
"I see. Let me know if there\'s anything else I can do for you princess. If not I\'ll be returning to what I had previously been doing." Genson said offering a plastic smile as he turned away from the princess and began to walk away.
"Genson." She said causing him to stop in his steps.
"As a way to get closer to the others who work here it might also not be a bad idea to ask them if there\'s anything they might want you to pick up for breakfast and lunch." The suggestion was definitely offered as a way to mess with him again. He didn\'t appreciate it.
"Perhaps I will. I will see both of you later." He offered Samuel a small nod of head as he walked past him and out the office door.
"He seemed even more annoyed than he did before." Samuel commented as he came back to sit on the sofa.
"I\'m sure that he is, but I think that we came to an understanding for the time being that will make sure he doesn\'t protest his position for the near future at least." the princess commented.
"Where did you disappear to?" She then asked curious to know what call he was taking that couldn\'t have been in the office. He grinned at her in response to the question.
"That has to do with the surprise that you will have to wait to find out about until later." He simply replied.
"When later?" She could handle small surprised but wouldn\'t be thrilled if it was something too big. Perhaps she should considering getting him something as well. He did still need cufflinks before the engagement party and she had a design in mind that might work well.
"Maybe a week or so?" He replied purposely not giving her an exact answer. She tsked upon hearing this but didn\'t push it knowing that he most likely wouldn\'t give her a straight answer.
"What time over the weekend should I tell Ryan we would like to get ready to test the food for the engagement party?" Samuel suddenly asked. He realized he needed to get a set time down so that if he went to go pick up the ring tomorrow morning, Lena wouldn\'t be suspicious as to where he went.
"I was wondering about in the afternoon on either day? Since I think you said your mornings are busy over the weekend?" He suggested hoping that it was right in thinking this.
"That would probably be okay. I don\'t think there\'s anything that I need to do over the weekend that can\'t be shifted to the morning or later in the day depending on what Ryan agrees to." the princess replied as she looked at her schedule on the computer. That was a small white lie, but it wasn\'t anything that she couldn\'t work with.
She need to get together with Eve to see what was getting up to and if she found anything. She had a request from another business to get acquainted which seemed like a potential for deal. She was also looking to follow up with Marcus about his request for a partnership. She hadn\'t gotten back to him yet because she had been doing a lot of background digging into, but so far she couldn\'t find much that raised any red flags despite the fact that she didn\'t trust him.
It felt like to her depending on what his final offered would be that it might be a case of keeping a potential enemy or problem close in order to deal with any problems that cropped up further down the road. If he was too troublesome, she would just include a clause that would allow her to break times with him without her business having to face any penalties. Her father really was making her work this business pretty much from the ground up.
"Sounds good! I\'ll ask him tonight after we get home. I\'m sure that he will be happy to hear that we\'re working something out so he has enough time in advance to get everything together."
"He\'s a perfectionist when it comes to cooking. He has a great team but he would worry anyways because he doesn\'t anything can be done well enough especially when it comes to events like this." Lena commented as he phone buzzed. It was a text from Samuel\'s mother. That\'s right, she also forgot about the fact that she had agreed to set aside some time to meet or talk with her in the next few days.
\'can we meet tomorrow?\' the text read.
\'Why tomorrow?\' she asked. She already had a lot going on and while she didn\'t want to be rude to his mother, she wasn\'t sure that she was going to be able to make time to fit her in around everything else. She should know how busy everything would be for them right now.
\'There\'s something urgent that I need to talk with you about. I wouldn\'t be pushing for it so quickly, but some unexpected things have come to my attention.\' Lena glanced over at Samuel as she read this text. He was back to focusing on numbers in front of him. Lena got the feeling looking at him that perhaps this was something he had no knowledge of or if he did, he was doing a good job of hiding it.
\'Does Samuel know that you\'re contacting me about this? If it\'s something urgent?\' she asked gauging to see what response she would get from the other woman. She stifled a sigh. She hoped it wasn\'t related to the bad feeling that had been looming despite how smoothly everything had been going.
\'No... I want to talk with you first. It\'s something that you\'ll know how to handle better before I talk with him. I think I need your help.\' this definitely didn\'t bode well for the princess. To many unexpected moving pieces and secrets recently. It seemed as though Sammy-boy wasn\'t even spared from somehow being a part of them.
\'Alright. I don\'t like this, but when would you be here by?\' the princess asked, placing her phone down after sending the text. Whether she wanted to or not she would now have to work on clearing up her schedule for unexpected events on Saturday.
\'I can do come first thing in the morning. I have a friend who is come near that area. I can meet you at the estate if that would work.\' his mother suggested. Since when did she know where the estate was?
\'Alright. Let me know when you arrive because no one will let you in without the permission of me, my father, or brother.\' She replied back.
Whatever this urgent matter was, she just hoped that it wouldn\'t affect their engagement party. It would be hard to reset the time for such an event with the amount of people that were supposed to show up.
