Chapter 324 That Isn't How This Works
"Can't it be something that happens later then? We've already got the food here though I don't know where Alonso went. I think for now it would be better if we just focused on eating." Samuel gave a quick look around the room. Only three places were seat, the rest of the chairs being taken away likely meant they would be eating alone.
"If you would prefer to focus on eating first. That is something that we can do. Whatever you think would be best." Not what Jovani would choose, but then again, his cousin didn't sound exactly like he'd been having the best day so far.
"Alonso can catch up with us when he is done. He's likely not going to be in as great a mood to go about eating as the two of us." Jovani pulled one of the chairs at the table out, taking the seat without touching the food.
In fact, the other would likely be coming back at any moment to yell at him for what he did. The tiny ticking of his wrist watch accentuated eating passing second as the Vedova Nera boss waited for what he would soon come.
"What do you mean by that?" Samuel hardly finished asking the question before he heard purposeful foot steps coming down the hall. Jovani raised one finger while watching the door.
"Ah ah. I know what you're going to say but, come and eat with us first. We can deal with that as well after this." If Alonso's expression back at the hospital indicated frustration, the current look in his face made him look absolutely livid.
Samuel quietly took his seat while watching the silent interaction between his cousin and the right-hand man.
"Are you out of your mind or is that something that I need to even be asking at this point?" Alonso's hand slammed down on the back of the vacant chair in the kitchen. Face red and chest rising heavy, as he barely kept his emotions contained.
"I am absolutely bonkers. I think that both of us know that well enough by now. To address your frustration though, no. I know exactly what I am doing." Jovani picked the tea cup up and put it against his lips his action of one who didn't seem to care of the impending explosion getting ready to take place.
"I know you weren't going to do anything about the matter, so I thought it better to take it upon myself to handle it." Alonso's mouth opened and rose repeatedly. Eyes darting back and forth between Jovani and the room the other just came from. Completely at a loss on how to express his anger.
"This is not the kind of matter that we should be putting off until later to talk about. This is an issue that needs to be dealt with right now. An issue that you put us into." The right hand man shook his head, cursing before knocking the chair against the table with this hand.
Alonso briefly cast a glance in Samuel's direction. The younger cousin appeared more inquisitive than concerned about whatever Alonso was raging about. Lena would likely murder someone, namely Jovani and himself if she knew about the current state of things.
"Before I brought him here would have been a great time to say something about this as well." The right-hand man began to pace. The idea of eating not even on his mind despite the food being before him. The opposite of his boss who didn't wait for anyone else before starting to tuck in. He did motion for Samuel to join him. The younger cousin however seemed more interested in understanding the current matter at hand than eating.
"There's nothing wrong with him being here right now. It isn't like they would do anything to him in the first place. You should know that all of them respect you more than enough to do anything that might lead to you getting upset." Alonso shot the other a dark look. Wordless disagreeing with what the words that came out of his boss's mouth.
That wasn't something that the other could assure him of without a speck of doubt. Jovani obviously did not understand how little he knew about the matter he spoke of. Certainly, there was a large amount of respect from some of those men. Not however from the one person that Alonso felt most concerned about.
"You really don't know what you are talking about. You could have brought most all of them here, but not him. I don't want to have to deal with him after what just happened." Alonso loosened the tie around his neck. The room suddenly felt rather stifling and difficult to breathe in.
Did Jovani intend to try and kill him this year? If so, it certainly felt that he was well on his way in that direction after everything thus far in the year.
"Now now. I don't think you have to worry about that. The two of us had a rather nice talk earlier. I believe we came to a few understandings while you were away." Jovani waved the other's concerns off, finishing the rest of his tea before reaching the cup that had been put out of Alonso. The right-hand man snatched it up though before Jovani could even put one finger on it. Alonso drained it in one go hoping it would somehow help him feel better.
"Is this another one of those issues I shouldn't be worrying about putting myself in the middle of?" Both heads turned to look at Samuel at the same moment. The younger cousin's question diffused a certain amount of tension in the room.
For all of five seconds before an unexpected third voice decided to pipe up and answer that question causing the hair to raise on the back of Alonso's neck.
"I don't really think that this is something that requires that much assistance, eh Alonso? I think that the two of us just need a little time together to talk a few things over."
