Chapter 359 Not The Best Choice

Lena bit down on the end of the pipe, crunching it slightly under pressure. No, this deal wasn't the one that had been made.

"Hester. I told you I would call them to come along after the fact. Why did you think to bring them along with you right now?" Three additional people left no space for them to hold the meeting in the hospital room, the place that Lena wanted to remain in today. One lousy night flipped everything off kilter once more. Not just for her but for Julian as well. The man would choose to leave at one of the most pivotal times before the doctor came in to tell them such things.

It's possible that he might not wake up… The words never seemed to want to stop echoing in her head, like the worst clutter that takes up residence in one's mind. Nothing could replace it, and it never attempted to try and leave on its own, no matter what type of distractions were used. Lena tried many after she couldn't sleep but found nothing satisfactory.

Doctors weren't gods and had no right to dictate things before they even knew what the end result would be. At best, they could make simple predictions that may or may not be accurate. In this case, Lena didn't want this one to come true. Not right now. It was the last thing that her family needed to be able to deal with at the current moment in time.

Such injuries can be severe or life threatening, and the period between the injury and treatment…' you were told this from the start.'. Lena had to implement every calming technique she knew not to shoot the head doctor the moment those words escaped his mouth. She settled for a tough face-to-face conversation to ensure the made got her point- in no way would they stop treatment. Days, weeks, months, years. She didn't care how much passed.

"Each time the suggestion escapes anyone's mouth under your watch, I will break one bone in your finger."  This threat seemed to resonate better with the man than any other words she exchanged during their short time together. Lena didn't even have to go so far as to explain the immense pain that would cause; the head doctor seemed to understand well enough.

"I know what you said, Princess. I brought them along as I thought it would be safer to make one move than consecutive ones. With the changes being implemented, we aren't as flush on people as we had before." Hester's voice brought Lena out of her thoughts and brought her attention back to the man standing before. The Princess let out a low huff before releasing the pipe from between her teeth. Any more pressure, and she might've very well ended up cracking it. Tsk. Such carelessness couldn't be afforded.

"One move is better. However, we don't even know if we will need them in the first place. Security is well enough without another group loitering around." Lena bit back a sigh. She couldn't exactly blame her tech for trying to make the best decision. Nothing over the past twenty-four hours had been his fault either.

"No sense fussing about it now. Tell me what you found after we spoke last night. Were you able to g through everything that I asked you to?" She pulled out her pipe and crossed her arms. Julian could be filled in on what was happening after they had finished discussing everything. The tech licked his bottom lip, and the men behind him nervously shuffling their feet caused the Princess to narrow her eyes.

"If there is a problem, I expect it will be one you will tell me of immediately. This is going to be the best place for us to talk. The more time you waste, the less time we will have before other people start coming around." Lena would also have to wait long before she could fill the pipe again. She would have to ask someone to bring something to refill the next time they came around.

"Not exactly a problem. The results are just a little too close to what you had expected. Not to say that we doubt you for one second, Princess. We aren't certain what move we should consider making next." Hester set down his bag to pull out the iPad inside. He flipped it on and went to a specific screen before handing it over to the Princess.

"All our equipment and the people with me have been checked before coming here. It doesn't seem that there is anything back at the estate either. Another reason I brought them with me. We may need to do a better check here." Lena's lack of response made the man more uncomfortable than if she'd exploded after reviewing what they had found. A quiet Princess never turned out to be a good thing. Behind the calm mask, something was almost always brewing.

"Good. Do the check as you, please. If you find anything you already know, tell me. Please don't touch it, though. I want to think of another way to deal with it." It wasn't the victory that Lena wanted, but she would take the small things for now.

"Also, do you have another one of these? I want to be able to keep this one with me to track any updates." Among other things. Hester indicated the cases that the men were holding behind me.

"We brought duplicates of all the necessary equipment. Are you certain, Princess, that it was the right choice to leave the list behind for now? I understand what you said last night- "

"You still have your reservations as if it'll be the right choice or not? You're not the only one, but it can be added to the test list that we are going through." Lena dimmed the screen on the iPad the moment she heard someone step out onto the roof behind them. The director wouldn't complain about anything they did. Instead, he couldn't if he continued to value his life. That same trust wouldn't be extended to anyone else. Anyone else could be a potential enemy until proven otherwise.

"Very well then, Princess. We will go through with everything as promised. Do you still desire for me to contact Eva?" Lena shook her head, handing the device back over to Hester.

"Not for now. I want you to take that back to the hospital room, and we can figure out what to do next. I already have another set of plans I want to put into motion in advance."

One that would require a bit more planning but with the right amount of work would be the best choice.

"I want you to contact someone we haven't talked to in quite a while. I believe they might be the right person to help us with this job. A little bit of a loose cannon would be useful at this point." Lena put the pipe in her pocket, fixing the unwelcome newcome with a look that made them scurry off the roof rather quickly.

"Are you sure about that, Princess? I believe I know whom you are speaking of. They might not be the right person to bring into this case. You know what happened last time that we requested help from them." How could she forget? Lena had been directly involved at that time. That was one of the reasons that she wanted to bring them back on now.

"I do remember, which is why I think they would be the best person to bring onto this case. Unless you think of someone else who would be a better fit, I want you to go ahead with what I am asking you. We can discuss the finer details at another point in time. She didn't want to go about wasting at the current moment. There were other important matters that they needed to be able to focus on rather than arguing about this matter.

"Very well. I will keep my reservations to myself for the time being. Please consider, however, that I will likely not be the one who objects to what you want to go through with." Hester's words didn't share the same concession with the look in his eyes. The man always did have a relatively strong spirit.

"Don't worry about that. I will take care of anything else that comes up. For now, do what I said. We need more people to help us work through this. Even if they aren't the best fit." Lena would deal with whatever fallout took place. She had done so before; she could do so again now, no matter what happened. She just needed everyone to fall in line and do as she said for now.

Had her father been awake, she knew that Zane would've chosen to make the same call.

Everything might end up backfiring on her but right now, it was a risk worth taking.
