Chapter 489 - 489: Difficult Childbirth
Chapter 489 - 489: Difficult Childbirth
Da Qiu was so anxious that he was sweating profusely. “Master, the midwife is already at home. We’ve been searching for you for four hours.”
Little Jiu shouted angrily, “Are you still human? Who would lie to you about such a thing?”
“Is he still human? His wife is having a difficult labor, and he’s drinking with the bartender here.” The people in the restaurant were also whispering.
Li Fengqi paid the bill with a red face and followed the two of them downstairs to call a carriage to rush back.
The few of them returned to the small courtyard. When they entered, they heard Laidi crying. The old woman walked out with a basin of blood. When she saw Li Fengqi, she complained loudly, “Master, Madam was in labor prematurely. Why did you only come back now?”
Li Fengqi glanced at the blood in the basin and was shocked. “I…”
The midwife shouted from the room, “Master Li, the child is not full-term yet. Are we going to protect the child or the adult?”
Li Fengqi squatted on the ground in a daze. “I… I don’t know either…”
Laidi opened her eyes and looked at the midwife weakly. “Protect the child. I want my child…”
The midwife was sweating profusely as she encouraged Laidi, “Girl, you have to persevere. If the child is born prematurely, the child without a mother won’t survive. Grit your teeth and persevere for a while.”
When Little Jiu heard that the situation was not right, he turned around and ran out. He called for a mule cart to rush towards the East City.
When Little Jiu rushed to the Zhou family, Uncle Liu called Ji Xiang out. Little Jiu said to Ji Xiang anxiously, “Your relative is having a difficult delivery. The midwife asked her man whether to protect the eldest or the youngest. Her man squatted on the ground and said that he didn’t know…”
“Little Jiu, wait for me.” Ji Xiang turned around and ran towards the inner courtyard. “Madam, the midwife asked…’
“I’ll go over and take a look. Ji Xiang, find a doctor and rush over.”
Li Yu put on her cloak and walked out. Ruyi drove the carriage and drove Little Jiu and Li Yu to Laidi’s house.
Li Yu sat in the carriage and remembered that she had forgotten to take the ginseng. She hurriedly entered the space to take out the ginseng tablets and the medicine to stop the bleeding, just in case.
Ruyi parked the carriage at the entrance of Laidi’s small courtyard. Li Yu jumped out of the carriage and rushed into the small courtyard. Seeing Li Fengqi sitting on the ground in a daze, her heart skipped a beat and she quickly rushed into the delivery room.
When the midwife saw Li Yu, she was extremely glad. “You’re the mother’s relative, right? The mother is bleeding non-stop. The doctor hasn’t come yet. If this drags on, even the adult won’t be able to survive.”
Li Yu took out the pills and ginseng. “Aunt, I have ginseng and pills to stop the bleeding. Can you give them to her?”
“It should be able to stop the bleeding. Hurry up and give it to her. A doctor will be faster at stopping the bleeding. Wake her up quickly. She won’t wake up if she sleeps now,” the midwife said.
Li Yu approached Laidi and saw that she had lost too much blood and was already unconscious. She hurriedly fed her the hemostatic pill and placed the ginseng in her mouth. She patted her cheek and shouted, “Laidi, wake up. Laidi, wake up…”
Li Yu called out more than ten times, but Laidi still did not wake up. Li Yu looked at Laidi anxiously.
At this moment, Ji Xiang arrived with the physician and shouted from outside,
“Madam, the physician is here.”
“It’s more important to save her life. Hurry up and invite the physician in.”
Li Yu invited the doctor into the delivery room. After giving Laidi acupuncture, the bleeding finally stopped.
Li Yu pointed at the unconscious Laidi and said to the doctor, “Doctor, take a look. Why can’t she wake up?”
After taking her pulse, the doctor said, “The woman is too sad and exhausted to wake up for a while. I’ll give her a shot.”
The doctor injected Laidi again. After a while, Laidi woke up and saw Li Yu. She panted and cried, “Cousin, my child is gone. The child is gone…”
Li Yu patted her and comforted her. ‘You’re still young. Take care of yourself. You’ll still have children.”
Laidi shook her head. Tears of regret flowed down her face uncontrollably as she whimpered, “It’ll be different. It won’t be this child. Cousin, it’s all my fault.
I harmed this child.”
The doctor said to Li Yu, “Madam, it’s not good for her to be so sad. Let her sleep and rest for a while. It’s good for her health.” Li Yu nodded. “Let her sleep for a while!”
The doctor gave Laidi two injections and let her sleep.
The midwife was afraid that Li Yu would pursue the matter. After Laidi fell asleep, she pointed at the child in the corner. “Madam, it’s not good for a pregnant woman. I came a few days ago and instructed her not to get upset and take good care of the fetus. Who knew that she would have a miscarriage today?”
The midwife looked at Li Yu and explained uneasily, “I tried my best. The child was not fully-grown. When I dragged him out of the delivery path, he was already dead. Sigh! A male child is gone just like that. What a pity!”
Li Yu nodded and went out to get silver from Ruyi. She handed it to the midwife. “Thank you, Aunt.”
The midwife took the silver gratefully and looked at Li Fengqi, who was sitting on the ground in disdain. She said to Li Yu, “Madam, do you want me to help that child find a place?”
Li Yu shook her head. “He has parents. His parents should be in charge of this.” The midwife nodded, packed her things, and left.
Li Yu glanced at Ruyi. “Drag him up and carry the child out to bury him.”
Ruyi picked Li Fengqi up from the ground and smelled the wine and cosmetics on him. He frowned and shouted, “Li Fengqi, are you still human? Hurry up and take the child out and bury him.”
Li Fengqi lowered his head and walked into the house without a word. He picked up the child from the corner of the wall and staggered out.
Ruyi followed him out of the city.
Ji Xiang looked at Li Yu, who was standing under the eaves of the porch.
“Madam, the old woman said that Li Fengqi went home today and had a big argument with Miss. Li Fengqi slammed the door and left. When she saw Miss, she realized that she had gone into labor prematurely.”
Li Yu recalled Laidi’s regretful expression and sighed. “It was probably because Li Fengqi wanted her help but Laidi didn’t agree. The two of them had an argument, causing Laidi to give birth prematurely. Poor child.”
Lucky frowned. “Madam, what should we do now?”
Li Yu thought for a moment. “Go back and get some tonics. Then, invite Granny Chen over to help serve her for a few days. We’ll talk about the rest after she recovers and thinks it through.”
“Yes, Madam.” Ji Xiang agreed and left.
Li Yu entered the house and stood in front of the bed. She looked at the haggard and thin Laidi and realized that there were wrinkles at the corners of her eyes.
Li Yu frowned and looked at Laidi, who was also frowning in her sleep. She didn’t understand what she was pursuing.
Could this be the life she was so ambitious and unrealistic in pursuing?
She had burt herself all over for a man who was blinded by greed.
Ji Xiang brought the tonic and Granny Chen to the small courtyard. Laidi still did not wake up. Li Yu said to Granny Chen, “I’ll have to trouble Granny to take care of her for a few days. When she wakes up, coax her.”
Granny Chen bent her knees and bowed. “Madam, go back first. I’ll take good care of Miss.”
After Li Yu made the arrangements, she entered the room and took a look at Laidi. Then, she went out and got into the carriage to head back.
Ruyi followed Li Fengqi to a deserted forest. When he buried the good child, Ruyi knocked him to the ground with a few punches. “You’re worse than an animal. A person like you still wants to take the imperial examination. The heavens would be blind for this to happen. Look! This is your retribution.”
Li Fengqi threw himself to the ground and dug his fingers into the mud. He looked at the small mound in front of him and said hatefully,” If you had reached out to help me on account of being relatives, why would I have done those things? You’ve harmed me like this. Just you wait. I won’t let it go..”
