CHAPTER 314 – Another Plan
Walking into the living room of the Sun's mansion, Sun Yichen dropped his phone on the table and looked wearily around before sitting down and pulling off his tie.
Recently work has been getting tougher than usual. He always came home feeling more stressed out than normal.
Also due to the workload, he decided to return to his family home for the month to also take care of some things for his father.
Drawing in a deep breath, he closed his eyes, allowing his brain to relax after processing so much during the day.
Moments later, the clicking sound of heels against the tiled floor brought him out of his rest as he pried his eyes open just in time to see his mother walking over to him.
The expression on her face was strong as her vicious eyes bore into his with a rage he was so used to.
Regardless, it did not change the dread that spread through his body in the process.
Whenever she was like that, it meant someone was going to go down.
In the entire Sun family, he did not know if he should fear his father more or his mother.
Both had a hot head on their necks. Something people wondered how he never inherited.
Letting his eyes drift from hers, Sun Yichen relaxed back into the couch, allowing his body to sink into the softness.
"Remind me if you have done the task that you so righteously placed on yourself that you have the guts to be relaxing," Su Mei questioned.
Her eyes raked over her son in the most irritating manner.
She knew what had been going on even though she kept silent about matters since.
It was no news that he had other crueler ways to get Andromeda to cooperate with them and have the business deal signed with Liu Corporation.
"Mother, not now. I am not in the mood, to be honest."
"Neither am I but I see my keeping quiet has made you reluctant to do the right thing."
He peeled his gaze from hers, focusing his attention on something else in the living room that wasn't her.
"I am talking to you, Sun Yichen!" Su Mei bellowed. "You do not ignore me when I do so."
He breathed out and granted her wish. "Fine. You want me to look at you while you speak mum? Great have it. I am looking at you. Now, what the heck does that change?"
POW!
His eyes flew open in bewilderment. He had challenged his mother but never did he expect the repercussion to be this way.
She was one crazy beast when angered, that was for sure and this slap reminded him of it.
His brain buzzed as he continued to stare at the tigress in front of him.
"How dare you speak to me in that manner? Huh Yichen, how dare you!"
Her body trembled as her rage shot through her. Her red eyes glistened under the shimmer of the lights.
"How could you?" She asked, her voice breaking a bit, but she clenched her fists and steeled her resolve.
"No. I know. You think being this way would keep me off of you?" Su Mei questioned and this time she leaned in close so she came face to face with his eye level.
He dropped his hand and returned her stare.
"I am not keeping anyone off. I am not even trying. I am trying to fix things here at home for my father. Do you think if I was, I would even bother coming over?"
"It can also be an act of yours to make me not think about that."
That was it. He was done acting as though her words weren't cutting and accusing.
He got up on his feet, forcing Su Mei to take a couple of steps backwards as she gazed up into her son's face.
"Mother, just state what you want and atop insinuating rubbish."
"Oh, now you call my words rubbish?"
He rubbed his forehead and brushed his hair back. "Mother, please."
"Please what?"
"Enough." Sun Yichen breathed sharply and let his hands fall to his side. "Just please stop with all this. I am begging you."
"Why? Your father and this family need this deal. We were going to do this our way but here you were preventing us from doing so."
"For a justifiable reason. Is it now you know just how proud and arrogant Sun Jungyi is?"
"He is your brother. You are not to speak about him like that," Su Mei corrected.
"Really now. He ruined a business plan for you two and you defend him?"
"Your brother has made many mistakes in life."
"And every time I am made to fix his mess. How do you think I feel mum?"
"He is your younger brother," she repeated, hoping the words had sunk in. "If you do not protect him, your father would kill him."
"Great," Sun Yichen shrugged. "Perhaps that is just what he needs. Not my cup of tea."
"You cannot say that."
"Then correct that spoilt brat son of yours or dance to the tune of his mischief and stop your monstrous husband alone. Gosh, the kind of family I have."
POW!
She reached up and landed a slap on his face while he was not looking and landed another slap on his face.
"Mother."
"Yes, I would do it again. You are mad."
"Fine. Just great. I can leave right and go back to my house. Tell dad I tried to help but his crazy wife won't let me."
She raised her hand to hit him again. Before it could land on his face, Sun Yichen held her wrist firmly, preventing her from attacking him again.
Seeing how caged she was, Su Mei struggled to break free from his hold. Regardless of what she did, nothing could break her free from Sun Yichen's grip.
After trying, she decided to result to her last resource. The pleas and cry of a woman.
She knew her son was the softest and kindest of everyone in the family. And decided to exploit that weakness.
However, what she did not take into consideration was the fact that his heart could also turn cold if he wanted.
He was a chip of the old block after all.
Her eyes glistened with tears as her voice changed into a calmer one and let her expression go soft.
"Yichen, y-you're hurting mother."
Even with that, his expression remained rigid as his eyes bore deep into hers. She tried again and again.
But each call out for help left her seeing the reality of what or who her son was.
After a minute or two, he spoke up. The very words she least expected to hear.
"Are you done, mother?"
Clank!
Like the sound of broken glass, the reality of all her failures came crashing down on her.
"What?" Su Mei questioned with blinking eyes.
"You heard me, mum. Are you done acting? Mind you it was terrible and perhaps this is why our movie industry is not doing well."
Her jaw fell open at the insult but Sun Yichen had only begun.
"If the owners can do nothing and have no sense of when an actor is bad, I wonder how the industry can function well."
Although he teased her, she felt his words cut deep into her heart. There was some kind of truth in there and she knew it.
They were not good. Even getting the best help was hard.
"I never held unto your wrist that tight," Sun Yichen revealed and released her hand.
She rubbed on her wrist and shot him a glare. "You're just like your father."
'Yet you love him and married him."
She threatened to hit him again but recalling the last time, she stopped midway.
"Better. Now if you are done, let's talk sensibly mother. Please."
He moved away from where she stood to sit elsewhere. Left with no other choice, Su Mei obeyed and sat down where he left off with her hands crossed in front of her bosom.
"What is the matter, mother?"
"Is that any apology?" Su Mei attacked.
"I am sorry. I did not mean to hurt you, okay?" She looked at him, her eyes meeting with his.
The hostility that was once there had gone. Satisfied by the change, she sighed and released her hands. "Fine."
"Then what got you mad?"
"The fact that soon enough Liu Corporation's Entertainment industry would be releasing another film and here we are, finding it hard to make the market want us. We are losing and we need them."
"We do not necessarily need them mother and you know it."
"That's easy for you to say. You are not the one having to face the world during any celebration, ball or dinner. We are and those scoundrels speaking behind our backs whereas coming to us for help is just so annoying."
"Mum, look at me," Sun Yichen requested.
"Now what?"
