Chapter 482 The Invitation
Chapter 482 The Invitation
Meanwhile, seated behind his glass desk in the sanctum of his office, Liu Xueyi was engrossed in his own world.
The darkness seemed to close in around him, a fitting backdrop to the gravity of his thoughts.
The only source of light in the room came from the illumination of his laptop screen.
His eyes, a reflection of his enigmatic persona, remained locked onto the screen. The glow from the laptop cast a soft illumination on his features that highlighted his rugged handsomeness.
His gaze was unrelenting, his thoughts delving deep into the work displayed before him.
The silence was palpable, broken only by the soft clicks of his keyboard as his fingers danced over it with practiced grace.
Outside his office, the city continued to breathe, its heartbeat echoing through the streets, but within him, he was cold and different—the reality of a man missing the soft touch of his female companion.
He sighed after thirty minutes of continuous typing; his shoulders slouched forward in defeat.
"Damn it! he cursed under his breath.
With a frustrated growl, he slammed down hard against the table, causing the laptop to shake in response.
A few seconds passed, and then he lifted himself up, a determined expression settling on his face.
He reached for a bottle of water and took a sip, letting out a sigh.
"Who are they?" he asked no one in particular.
Suddenly, a message icon popped up on his screen, notifying him of a new message. He hesitated briefly, but after much thought, he tapped on his laptop screen and opened the message.
His eyes narrowed, and his brows furrowed in confusion.
The email was short, simple, and yet disturbing.
It read:
To Mr. Liu Xueyi:
I am writing this letter to inform you that I have been watching you for some time now. I know that you're a busy person, so I will keep this brief.
You see, I'm very interested in your company's new business model. I believe that I can help improve the efficiency of the operations of the firm.
If possible, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Sun Yichen.
Liu's eyes widened as his mind raced.
This was unexpected.
He had never expected Sun to be aware of his interest.
And even more surprising was the fact that he was willing to offer assistance.
"Hmm. The last thing I want is to do business with the Sun family, especially after what he did to Andromeda. It's safe to pass."
Ignoring the mail, he closed it and opened a different tab. No sooner had he done that than another email notification message popped up on his screen.
"Damn it, I do not want to collaborate," Liu Xueyi enunciated angrily. But something caught his attention, and he clicked on it.
Hmm, I was right. It wasn't Yichen. But this sender seems nameless."
His brows furrowed deeper as he clicked on the text and read it.
Dear Mr. Liu,
I hope this email finds you well. I wish to partner with you on your new project and make an investment in it. The new model would do wonders if we could make it grander than what you have planned.
Forgive the intrusion and my not revealing my name to you. However, if my proposal interests you, please grace this occasion with your presence.
Below is attached the invitation to the Christmas gala. I do hope you can attend and bring with you your darling companion.
Warm regards,
Hostess Yu.
He released his brows and settled against his seat, his calm eyes a sharp contrast to the turmoil he felt inside.
What was going on? He had recently heard that some people had invaded the city, ready to make a big splash in the business world.
What no one knew were their names and faces, leaving behind a series of mysteries.
He wondered if he really was the only one they would do business with. He shook his head to correct his thoughts.
If they are looking to invest and gain control, then he just may have to see his opponents for himself and find out the mystery behind their actions.
"Xueyi..." He shook his head in disbelief. "I don't know who these people are, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough."
He took another sip from his bottle before closing the laptop and standing up.
He had no intention of falling for any more snares or tricks, but here he was, following a certain mystery.
"I want Andromeda."
A soft knock came on his door, indicating a visitor. Instinctively, he lifted his gaze to the wall clock before answering.
It was already past nine o'clock at night.
Enter!" he called.
He was astounded by Andromeda's timely appearance when the doors slowly opened to reveal her figure.
She was dressed casually, wearing fitted light brown office trousers and a white blouse. Her blonde hair, tied into two braids, fell down her back.
Her face held an expression that seemed to be both curious and amused.
"You're late!" Liu Xueyi exclaimed.
Andromeda's lips curled upward as she stepped inside. She glanced around the room, taking in the dim lighting and the scattered papers on his desk.
"I thought you'd never come. I've been waiting all day. I even went to your office twice," Liu Xueyi complained again.
"Stop being such a naughty baby boy and give me a kiss," Andromeda said with a wink.
Rather, his forehead creased, his brows knitting in a frown. "Why didn't you call me?"
Apparently, she had been busy all day thanks to the festivity coming up—many balls, dinner parties, and celebrations.
Rather than be in her personal office, she was tucked into her work at the general work area, supervising to ensure the timely flow of work.
As such, her baby had to suffer from not seeing her. Although what puzzled Andromeda was how busy he was these days, most times he ended up returning home late at night.
She only thought to check on him and was surprised to still find him there.
"Work, to be honest. I've been busy," Andromeda explained in defeat.
"Sadly, so have I," Liu Xueyi admitted.
