Chapter 297 - 297: There Was No Hope
At the table where the Li family were seated, Li Yanchen and his two sons bickered about who got to skin some prawns for Lin Wan
Xia MO sat at a table with Xiao Yi and Xiao Tianlin. Both men seemed oblivious to Xia Mo’s meaningful glances.
The Li family’s table had most dishes with prawns. Lin Wan felt that eating so many prawns wasn’t good for her stomach.
“Stop it, you three!” she said. “I want to eat something else.”
[I also want Xuanxuan to peel me some prawns.]
[I wish I could peel some prawns for Xuanxuan.]
[Oh, stop complaining! Lin Wan returned the prawns to them.]
[I wonder how it feels to be pampered by three people at the same time.]
[Blissful, obviously.]
[Fortunately, Lin Wan loves prawns. If it was someone else, they would have vomited after being fed so much!]
[I think Lin Wan doesn’t like prawns anymore. She picked up the chopsticks and reached for another dish. She gave the prawns back to the kids.]
Li Zekai put the last prawn he had peeled into his mouth and smiled widely. “I peeled this myself!”
“You two need to stop, too!” said Lin Wan.
Li Zekai continued peeling the prawns. Feifei, who was used to being fed by his mother, also tried learning to peel the prawns from watching his friend.
Feifei didn’t know how to peel the prawn, but he tried his best. He lifted the prawn which he hadn’t been able to peel completely and placed it in his mother’s mouth.
Tao Jingyuan smiled. She was touched by her son’s gesture. “Thank you, my little angel.’
Zheng Kuo opened his mouth. “What about me?”
“The next one will be yours,” said Feifei eagerly.
“Aww, thank you,” said his father. “But you are too small, and your nails are too soft to peel prawns, Feifei. Maybe when you grow a little bigger, you can peel prawns for me.”
[Feifei fed the prawn to his mom. He put in so much effort. Avwv… his positive energy is contagious.]
[How are the kids in this show so sensible? My kid doesn’t have much self-awareness.]
[It’s fine if they aren’t sensible right now. Mine tries to kill me with exhaustion every day.]
[Hahahaha… does everyone ridicule their own kid like this?]
[I feel like crying. I am just going to watch the live broadcast and try to bask in the love the families show to each other.]
When the two men didn’t notice her agitation, Xia MO sat up straight. She felt that she could raise the baby alone if she had to. She had a shop, so she could afford food and clothing, after all.
Xia MO felt even more sad and disappointed when her son peeled a crab and offered it to Li Chuan.
She regretted saying that she felt suicidal because she thought it would make things worse for Xiao Yi if she had another baby. However, it was probably for the best. Xiao Yi didn’t care about her anyway. There was no hope at all.
Lin Wan noticed Xia Mo’s distress. She picked up a few peeled prawns from her bowl and placed it on Xia Mots plate. “Here, these are for you.”
“Thank you.”
[I can feel Xia Mo’s sadness through the screen.]
[Teacher Xia saw Xiao Yi peeling a crab. She must have thought he would offer it to her, like how the other kids did with their mothers. However, I think she thought her son was too aloof and cold to be that thoughtful, so she let it be. In the end, Xiao Yi peeled the whole crab and offered it all to Li Chuan. I feel sorry for her.]
[Who says Xiao Yi is cold and aloof? Don’t you see how thoughtfully he is peeling more crabs for Li Chuan?]
[Don’t make it worse. I think Teacher Xia feels sad that she raised her son with love, and it turned out to be of no use.]
[Li Chuan is eating so happily.]
[Li Chuan is so friendly with everyone, whether they are adults or children.] [That’s right. He is awesome.]
[Li Chuan is a star and participates in basketball matches internationally. Yet, he is so humble!]
[I am still watching the Li family.]
[I was looking around at everybody.]
After dinner, Li Chuan and the children headed to the orchard to pick oranges. Lin Wan and Xia MO discussed making some cakes in the afternoon for everyone to eat, then they went back to their own houses. They agreed to meet at the Li family house at 2 in the afternoon.
After the guests ate their fill and left, the staff sat together to discuss what games and activities they should come up with for the bonfire party.
To surprise the guests, they needed to come up with something different and meaningful.
Lan Village had a lot of barren lands. Some were overgrown with weeds, while others were plain. The plain area with sparse vegetation was the best place to have a bonfire party. When the Festival Group was preparing to shoot ‘We Are
Also Very Ordinary”, they had scouted many areas. In the end, they had chosen Lan Village because of its endless potential.
In the end, the staff decided on three little activities for the bonfire party: Pass the Lemon, a singing contest, and a game of riddles.
There would be a reward for each riddle solved.
When Lin Wan reached back to the house, she took off her shoes and lay on the recliner.
It was rare for Li Zexuan to not run to Xiao Yi’s house. Instead, he sat in front of the camera with his father.
Li Zexuan was holding his guitar. Li Yanchen had his thermos in his hand. One wore white and another was dressed in black.
Li Zexuan tuned his guitar and played a song that he had already played in the first episode.
[Xuanxuan is really playing the guitar today! It’s a familiar tune. I feel like taking a nap while listening to this soothing tune.]
[I almost forgot that Xuanxuan was a star, too! He had been running to Xiao Yi’s house almost every single day. I was beginning to believe Xuanxuan was addicted to games.]
[Aww… Jiejie is here too. For once, the family is together in their own livestream room.]
Li Zekai played with his small car model. “Daddy, I am going to Feifei’s house.”
[Jiejie has always been his own person. He does what he wants when he feels like it. The livestream has nothing to do with him.]
[He is a kid, after all. It must be difficult for him to sit in one place with the adults]
[Yes. He is so young. Everyone, don’t take it personally that he is leaving.] “Alright,” said Li Yanchen.
Li Zexuan strummed his guitar and began playing “The Ordinary Road”. The tune was pleasant to hear.
The song was familiar to everyone, including Lin Wan, so they hummed along.
Lin Wan hadn’t expected Li Zexuan to know any of Pu Shuts songs. She thought it was for people of her age. Besides Xue Zhiqian, she loved Pu Shu and his songs. Her favorite happened to be “The Ordinary Road”
“Are you actually listening to the story? I’ve crossed mountains and seas… And gone through crowds of people. I once had everything. But in the blink of an eye, it disappeared like smoke. I’ve been lost, disappointed… lost my sense of direction. Until I saw that being “ordinary” was the only answer…,” sang Lin Wan.
Li Yanchen’s gaze was fixed on his son playing the guitar. Everyone listened quietly.
The song finally ended. Lin Wan clapped. “Not bad, Xuanxuan! Not bad at all! Even Pu Shu couldn’t have made it any better.” “Ms. Lin, I am sure Pu Shu could make his songs better.”
“That was good, both of you,” said Li Yanchen.
“Mr. Li, are you actually complimenting us this time?” asked Li Zexuan.
“Be happy that he is praising you finally,” said Lin Wan. She remembered how Li Zexuan had played beautifully in the first episode, but Li Yanchen hadn’t praised him at all. “Come on, Mr. Li, be honest this time. How did Xuanxuan
“Oh, it’s okay. I don’t expect him to praise me this time, either. He still doesn’t know how to sing, Ms. Lin, but you can. Do you want to sing something else?
I’ll play.”
Li Zexuan didn’t even look at Li Yanchen as he squatted down beside Lin Wan’s recliner. “Mr. Li is staring at me intently while holding a thermos. He looks like an exam invigilator. It’s annoying..”
