Chapter 157 - 157: Opportunity
Chapter 157 - 157: Opportunity
“I get shivers just thinking about being called into that place alone.”
“Is she addicted to firing people now?”
“Please don’t call me, please don’t call me… Amen…”
About half an hour later, Chen Mo emerged from the room, his expression calm, as if nothing had happened.
“Little Muffled, are you… okay?” A colleague who usually got along well with him asked in a hushed tone, a mix of concern and worry in their eyes.
Chen Mo gave him a reassuring look. “It’s not a big deal.”
“That’s good.”
As for what was said when he was called in, his colleagues didn’t pry further.
After work, Chen Mo invited his colleague to dinner.
“It’s not a holiday, not our birthdays, why suddenly invite me to dinner?” His colleague teased with a smile.
“To celebrate.”
“To celebrate what?”
“To celebrate my good mood today.”
“What kind of reason is that?” His colleague chuckled.
“Why so many questions? Do you want to join me for a meal or not?”
“I want to!”
“Let’s go…”
The next day, Shen Wan arrived at the company building at 7:50, parked her car, and stood waiting for the elevator.
“President Shen.”
“Good morning, President Shen…”
There were several familiar faces. They were Mingya employees.
Shen Wan smiled and nodded. “Good morning.”
For the first time, she felt that this “good morning” wasn’t merely a polite greeting but rather a sign that they had arrived at work unusually early.
At 7:55, Shen Wan checked her watch again for confirmation. Before, it was impossible to see Mingya’s staff at this hour.
Ding!
The elevator arrived. “After you, President Shen.”
At 8:15, Shen Wan made a trip to the break room, passing through the office area. With a quick glance, she noticed that everyone had already gathered.
It seemed that the incident from last time had left quite an impression on these people.
An intern was nibbling on a sandwich. When their gaze met Shen Wan’s, their hand trembled, and the sandwich tumbled to the floor. Their big eyes blinked in a helpless manner as if they might burst into tears any second.
Shen Wan chuckled softly, wondering if she had become so intimidating already.
At noon, Choi Yun personally delivered Shen Wan’s takeout to her office. “President Shen.”
“Hmm? Why is it you?” Although the official personnel appointments had not been formally issued yet, Miaomiao had already taken on the responsibilities of the President’s secretary in advance, including handling miscellaneous tasks like delivering meals.
“I happened to have something to discuss with you, so I brought it over.”
“Do you mind if I eat while we talk?”
Choi Yun shook her head. “You’re the president; whatever makes you comfortable.”
Shen Wan opened the food container, revealing three dishes and a bowl of soup. It wasn’t a lavish meal, but it was decent. Meanwhile, Choi Yun slowly began the conversation.
“This time, five people left, and their positions are now vacant. Should we consider hiring new staff, or would you prefer internal restructuring?”
Shen Wan’s expression remained unchanged, not even lifting an eyelid. “What do you think?”
Choi Yun felt a subtle tension, even though Shen Wan appeared calm. She sensed an invisible pressure and thought carefully, cautiously mixing in a hint of probing. “Previously, the company had too many employees, and some positions were unnecessary. Perhaps this is an opportunity?”
An opportunity for what?
Of course, it was for downsizing the workforce.
Initially, Choi Yun thought Shen Wan wanted to use this as a means to reform the company culture and set an example. However, upon closer consideration, she found some inconsistencies: first, why did it have to be those seven individuals? Wouldn’t it be more effective to target higher-ranking positions? Second, there were many ways to establish authority; why did she specifically choose termination?
Taking all this into account, Choi Yun made a bold guess that, apart from asserting authority and reforming the culture, Shen Wan also intended to lay off employees!
Sure enough, after listening to her words, Shen Wan casually picked up a piece of meat and said, “Hmm, let’s go with that then..”
