Chapter 938 - Thank You for Your Hospitality
Yan Su blinked. He seemed to be right.
She thought for a moment, then replied saying, “It will eventually.”
Mo Liuxi didn’t know what to say, but lowered his head, and ate the congee silently.
He found that she was pretty good at cooking, the first time he ate her food.
“Your sister makes good congee as well.” Yan Su thought he was simply into congee. “But she rarely cooks since she became pregnant.”
“Em.” Mo Liuxi responded absent-mindedly. “Nian Junting won’t let her cook for me.”
One time she peeled his shrimp for him, but after that, Nian Junting started to see him as a pain in the ass.
Yan Su agreed with him. “It’s alright,” she said. “You can ask An Ning to make it for you.”
Mo Liuxi felt annoyed again. He focused on the congee.
After finishing the first bowl of congee, he asked for the second. When he started his third bowl, Yan Su couldn’t help but remind him, “Maybe you should save some for me?”
“I thought one bowl of congee would be enough for a girl,” Mo Liuxi replied confusedly. “Besides, you never seem to have a good appetite.”
Yan Su sighed silently.
Yes, compared to you and your sister, I do have a poor appetite, she thought.
She didn’t need the last bowl of congee. She was just unhappy that Mo Liuxi always acted like a close friend when he was eating her food, despite the bad attitude that he had been giving her.
“Have a steamed bun if you’re still hungry.” Mo Liuxi pushed the steamed buns toward her.
Yan Su stayed silent. She didn’t want his steamed bun.
At last, she let him have as much congee as he wanted.
After breakfast, Mo Liuxi conveniently washed the dishes. Before leaving, he said in a bland tone, “Thank you for your hospitality. To apologize to you, I’ll bring deep-fried dough sticks, shrimp dumplings, and carrot cakes tomorrow morning. You can make another congee. How about beef congee?”
Yan Su didn’t see that coming. “Thank you,” she said. “I didn’t show you any hospitality. And you don’t need to apologize to me. You can have your breakfast alone tomorrow.”
Mo Liuxi knitted his brows and said, “I’ll buy you so much food. You won’t suffer any loss.”
“You were mean to me,” Yan Su complained. “You’ll only be nice to me when you want some congee, and you’ll be mean as ever when you don’t want congee. What do you think I am?”
Mo Liuxi stared at her angry face, then abruptly burst into laughter. “I get it. You’re still angry because I said Nian Xi is prettier than you when you tried on the bridesmaid’s dress, and because I took your red envelopes at the wedding, right?”
Yan Su’s face reddened.
If she admitted it, he might think that she likes to be complimented and that she loves money.
If she denied it, she might seem dishonest.
Mo Liuxi thought for a moment, then said. “Those are just some little things. How about this; I’ll take you to dinner someday, and then we’ll be even?”
Yan Su responded helplessly saying, “It’s just some congee. Do you have to do that? Is the congee even good?”
Mo Liuxi spent a few minutes thinking, then told the truth. “Actually, it’s not so good. It just... it tastes like my imaginary mother’s congee.”
Yan Su didn’t know what to say. She was not his mother.
You didn’t need to be so honest, she thought, You could’ve just told me that it was delicious. I might’ve said yes.
“Go and ask Aunty Mo to cook for you then,” she said.
“Didn’t you hear what I said? I said imaginary mom’s food. My real mother cooks awful food.” Mo Liuxi frowned, as he recalled his mother’s food.
“I don’t make congee every day. Today was an accident. Your sister gave me her meal card. She still has over ten-thousand yuan on it. It would be a waste if I can’t spend it all.” Yan Su said.
