Liu Qian disregarded the miserable look on her face and continued. “As for the second matter, do you remember DO Corporation? They are probably sending someone to talk to us in a few days.”

Huo Yao replied in a disinterested tone. “Why don’t you talk to them? I’m not good at conversations.”

Liu Qian’s cheeks twitched. He knew she was just acting dumb again. “You don’t have to talk to them. They have sent us their database and want us to take a look at it first.”

Liu Qian paused before he said, “DO Corporation is interested in the AI system we built for the institute last year. Before we proceed, we need the institute to give authorization.”

Huo Yao knew how patents worked, so she did not ask further. She did not care as long as she did not have to speak to the representative from DO Corporation personally. She nodded and said, “Fine. Send me the database so that I can check it out.”

When she finally agreed, a cunning smile swept across Liu Qian’s face.

He had lost a lot of sleep in the past couple of days since he was worried Huo Yao might refuse to join the project. He turned to walk up in front of his desk, opened the drawer, and retrieved a thumb drive. He turned back and handed it to Huo Yao.

When Huo Yao saw the thumb drive, she had a feeling that Liu Qian was taking her for a ride, but she still took the thumb drive from him.

“This contains a lot of data including bionic algorithms and cell counting. The data is far more complicated than what we have done for the institute,” explained Liu Qian.

“If we succeed with the project, this will change the future of the faculty,” remarked Zhao Lian as he put down the glass of water in his hand.

Liu Qian turned to look at Zhao Lian. A look of gratitude and reverence suddenly emerged on his face. “Thank you for recommending us for the institute’s research project. If you did not help, we wouldn’t have gotten this far.”

Zhao Lian raised his head and interrupted Liu Qian. “I beg to differ. After all, you worked hard to get where you are now.”

Liu Qian smiled. Zhao Lian was even more highly respected in the university than Prof Liu owing to his abilities and generosity.

Liu Qian did not harp on the subject. He glanced at his watch and said, “You two can chat first. I have to go to Mr. Qi’s office. Let’s have lunch together later.”

Liu Qian took a set of documents and quickly left the office.

After he was gone, Zhao Lian veered his eyes and looked at Huo Yao. “I received those meds from the Apothecaries’ Association before the holidays started. I have to say that I feel better after taking them.”

Huo Yao could tell Zhao Lian had yet to go far a full body checkup at the hospital, so she suggested in a solemn tone. “You should still go to the hospital for a proper checkup.”

Zhao Lian knew Huo Yao meant well. He smiled and answered. “I know. I’ve already made arrangements to go for a checkup tomorrow.”

Huo Yao nodded in agreement. Zhao Lian was a good man, and good men deserved long lives.

They started chatting about something else.

Meanwhile, Liu Qian had arrived at Qi Hui’s office.

Since the school term was about to officially commence, Qi Hui was very busy.

Qi Hui waited at the office for a few minutes, but Liu Qian was nowhere to be seen, so he was starting to feel a little annoyed.
