Chapter 235 - Announcement Conference
Chapter 235: Announcement Conference
ALthough there hadn’t been much leaked about Chen Mo’s game, there were still traces of the game among videogame industry professionals.
IT could be a VR game, which was in development for over seven months.
And they didn’t know anything else.
Many videogame media could tell something fishy was going on.
If it was a VR, meaning Chen Mo’s first VR game, it would be a huge deal.
Chen Mo entered the PC game market using Warcraft while he was still a B-grade videogame designer. Warcraft’s huge success whipped up a storm in the RTS gaming industry, and even sold well overseas.
Everyone was curious to find out what Chen Mo’s first VR game would look like.
Moreover, the timing matched perfectly with YAn Zhenyuan’s Thousand Hells.
In theory, the two games could release in July or August.
Why could Chen Mo pick this time?
Evidently Chen Mo knew that Thousand Hells would affect his sales. However, as he didn’t plan to delay his release, he clearly wanted to go head to head with Thousand Hells.
There was a lot of discussion among videogame journalists.
“Have you heard about Chen Mo’s videogame conference?”
“Of course, I’ve heard of it ages ago. I think most video game media have heard of it, and the senior editor already had me prepare questions.”
“What do you think Chen Mo is going for? Going head to head with Emperor Dynasty Entertainment? He’s quite bold to release the game at the same time!”
“Thousand Hells more or less copied Diablo, of course he’s not happy with that. Don’t you get Chen Mo’s personality? Has he ever let anything slip?”
“You’re saying, ‘copy my game, I’ll beat you up’ kinda deal?”
“Something like that.”
“You’re joking! To be honest, sure there’s no doubting Chen Mo’s mobile or PC games, but he’s never made a VR game!”
“I think so too, moreover his previous opponents were all A-grade video game designers. He’s facing Mr. Yan this time around, probably one of the most stable S-grade videogame designers in China. Moreover Thousand Hells is incredibly high quality, what if Chen Mo loses this time?”
“Maybe Chen Mo think’s it might be more embarrassing to lose after postponing the release of the game, and that’s why he’s forcing the release.”
“But he hasn’t even announced the release date. Nobody would know he had delayed the release of the game if he just shut up for another two months!”
“That’s true, that means Chen Mo is incredibly confident?”
“PErhaps. One more thing, Chen MO’s game should only be in development for six months? He was still working on Reaper of souls last November. What kind of VR game could he make in seven months?”
“Yeah, from various sources, Yan Zhenyuan had been in the works for a year. Chen Mo had half the time and still dares to go head to head with Thousand Hells?”
“Geez, I’ve got no clue. Whatever, we’ll see when it’s released. To be honest, I wouldn’t expect anything from anyone else, but Chen Mo... I think he could give Mr Yan a run for his money.”
“Yeah, let’s see when the conference comes.”
-On the day of the conference, in a hall in a five star hotel in the Imperial Capital.-
Most of the videogame journalists in Imperial Capital were in attendance. There were even some who flew in from Magic City or even further just to attend and ask Chen Mo some questions.
All the staff of the conference were hired professionals, so everything was in order.
There were banners, balloons and signage outside the hotel, and the journalists were directed by staff right from the entrance.
The meeting hall was nicely arranged. The decor and the mics were really well done with various themed backgrounds and even a professional camera crew.
The title of the powerpoint: ‘Thunderbolt Entertainment Game Announcement Conference’ was on the massive scene, main speaker being Chen Mo. The powerpoint was really plain and featured nothing from the game, so there was no way for them to guess anything about the game.
There was a lot of chatter before the event officially started.
“Five more minutes before it starts.”
“This is Chen Mo’s first video game conference right? I think all his previous ones were done over Weibo.”
“Yeah, Thunderbolt Entertainment is quite an influential company in terms of profits, looks like they’ll slowly before more and more official into the future.”
“Not bad, the conference is quite well done, unlike a mess some of the other smaller companies usually make. Just a shame we don’t know what it’s about.”
“How’s Chen Mo’s presentation skills?”
“I think he worked on some casting for Warcraft, so that’s certainly not a problem.”
“He’s here, it’s about to start!”
Chen Mo walked in front of the screen with a mic, and a huge wave of applause came from the audience.
Chen Mo had a smile on his face, “Thank you. Thanks.
“Many thanks for everyone to take time out of their day to join me at this announcement.
“Although this conference is recorded, it isn’t being live streamed. Since I know you, and you know me, let’s just skip over formal stuff. You are here because of my game anyways right?
“I can guarantee that this conference is a serious one, there will be no bluffs. Of course, this is especially directed at ’s Han Lu.
Chen Mo proceeded to look at Han Lu’s seat.
There was a wave of laughter from an audience. Han Lu’s articles from Chen Mo’s interview had more or less become a gag.
Chen Mo laughed and continued, “Alright, let the conference begin.
“Many of you might have heard that I’m going to announce a VR game. This took a lot of mystery out of today’s conference. Perhaps it might’ve taken away the hype around ‘Chen Mo’s first game’.
“Of course that couldn’t be helped as I never tried particularly hard to hide it either as there were so many ways it could leak. But since I’ve got through all this trouble to honest a conference, could you guys take pity on me and forget about all that you’ve heard?”
The journalists couldn’t help but laugh, This Chen Mo guy sure has a lot of gags up his sleeves, he’s a born actor!
