Chapter 169 - 169: Hugging Her Like No Tomorrow
Excitement.
Gu Mei’s excitement bordered on frenzy.
Finally, Huo Sicheng was within her grasp.
Just wait, Gu Qingcheng, you wretched woman!
Gu Mei believed herself to be the most beautiful woman in the world. If she could lure Qin Jun away, she could do the same with Huo Sicheng.
After she’d seduced and embraced Huo Siqian, her next target would be Qi Shaoze.
If she managed to be with Qi Shaoze, Gu Qingcheng would have nothing left.
With Gu Qingcheng’s temperament, she’d surely divorce Huo Sicheng upon learning of their affair. Then, Gu Mei would secure her position as Mrs. Huo. When Huo Sicheng heard Gu Mei’s voice, his crimson eyes filled with rage.
“You’re tempting fate!”
As Gu Mei approached, intending to embrace him, a long, slender leg kicked her head.
Before she could react or identify her assailant, the world spun, and she fell from her wheelchair to the ground. The force of the kick left her breathless, and she lost consciousness.
Chu Yu, upon seeing Huo Sicheng’s expression, understood immediately.
“President Huo, the doctor is already waiting.”
“To the villa,” Huo Sicheng panted, “go to the dining room and pick up Madam.
Don’t leave her alone at the Gu residence.”
“Yes, President Huo,” Chu Yu replied promptly.
“Wait.” Huo Sicheng’s voice trembled, his face unusually flushed. “Tell Madam I have an urgent matter to attend to. Don’t disclose anything she inquires about.”
“Yes, President Huo.”
The helicopter came and went swiftly.
Chu Yu watched as Huo Sicheng was taken away, then glanced at Gu Mei on the ground and gave her a harsh kick.
“How dare an ugly wretch like you touch President Huo? Take a look in the mirror!”
Then, he hurried to the dining room.
“Chu Yu?” Gu Tianhao narrowed his eyes upon seeing Chu Yu. “Why are you “Where’s Madam?” Chu Yu ignored Gu Tianhao and surveyed the dining room, not spotting Gu Qingcheng. He inquired quietly, “Where’s Mrs. Wang?”
Gu Tianhao’s face darkened. How dared a mere assistant act so impertinently before him? The assistant had the audacity to inquire about Gu Qingcheng instead of addressing him with due respect.
He took a deep breath to calm himself. Arguing with his assistant, Chu Yu, wouldn’t benefit him.
Chu Yu was someone Huo Sicheng trusted, so causing a rift between them would only harm Gu Tianhao.
“My daughter went out,” he replied to Chu Yu. “Why are you in such a hurry to find my daughter? Si Cheng also left. They’re probably taking a walk together.” Chu Yu didn’t respond and turned to exit the door.
Gu Tianhao, witnessing Chu Yu’s anxious demeanor, stood up from his chair to follow him. “Chu Yu, has something happened?”
“President Huo has an urgent matter to attend to and asked me to bring Mrs.
Hunt home,” Chu Yu said without concealing anything. He knew that Gu Qingcheng would want to know the reason behind this excuse, and the more people who knew, the better.
Gu Tianhao frowned.
He had gone to great lengths to invite Gu Qingcheng and Huo Sicheng to dinner, hoping that Huo Sicheng would discuss energy matters afterward.
If Huo Sicheng suddenly left, wouldn’t the meal today have been in vain?
Gu Qingcheng scanned the surroundings but couldn’t locate Huo Sicheng. She was on her way back to the dining room when she spotted Chu Yu and couldn’t help but inquire, “Chu Yu, why are you here?”
Chu Yu breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Gu Qingcheng.
Mr. Huo had tasked him with taking Gu Qingcheng away from the Gu family to keep her safe.
“There’s an emergency at the company that requires President Huo’s attention,” he informed Gu Qingcheng. “Before President Huo left, he instructed me to bring his wife home.”
Gu Qingcheng didn’t say anything further. She fixed her gaze on Chu Yu for a moment and then said, “Let’s go.”
“Daughter.” Gu Tianhao quickly called out to Gu Qingcheng, addressing her in an affectedly kind tone. “I’m sorry for the unpleasant incidents that occurred today. Tomorrow, you and Si Cheng will return for dinner. I assure you that today’s events won’t be allowed to dampen your spirits.”
Pointing at Gu Tianhao’s face, Gu Qingcheng remarked, “Don’t pretend to be kind. Your expression is forced and unpleasant.”
Just as Gu Qingcheng had observed, Gu Tianhao had put on a show of kindness to keep her in check. His expression appeared awkward and unpleasant, and after she pointed it out, his face grew even less appealing.
Gu Qingcheng paid him no mind and turned to leave.
Chu Yu drove while Gu Qingcheng occupied the passenger seat.
She gazed out the window and took the initiative to break the silence in the car. “Tell me, where did Huo Sicheng go?”
“Madam, I told you, President Huo is dealing with an urgent matter,” Chu Yu replied with a smile.
“If I believed you, I wouldn’t have asked again,” Gu Qingcheng responded.
“Where is he?”
As for him, well, he had to do as President Huo instructed him.
However, if he didn’t tell Gu Qingcheng the truth, her fiery temper might leave him black and blue.
Gu Qingcheng could sense Chu Yu’s dilemma. “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you if Huo Sicheng questions you.”
Upon hearing Gu Qingcheng’s words, Chu Yu felt more at ease.
“President Huo is at a private hospital.”
Panic flickered in Gu Qingcheng’s eyes. She urged Chu Yu, “I’m not going home.
Take me to the hospital.”
“Yes, Madam.”
Gu Qingcheng’s heart raced with worry. She pressed Chu Yu again, “Where does he feel unwell?”
Chu Yu was tempted to say that President Huo seemed deceived, but he couldn’t be sure. So he replied cautiously, “I don’t know. I simply followed President Huo’s orders to pick him up at the Gu residence and take him to the hospital before bringing Madam home.”
Gu Qingcheng didn’t press Chu Yu any further. “Drive faster.”
At Huo Sicheng’s private hospital, Gu Qingcheng briskly walked toward his private room, her high heels clicking with every step.
A group of doctors waited at the door and cleared a path for her upon spotting Gu Qingcheng. They were aware of her status as Young Master Huo’s wife, given her prior hospitalization here.
Gu Qingcheng entered the room and, upon seeing Huo Sicheng lying unconscious in bed, her breath caught. Her face paled, and she couldn’t stop trembling.
Huo Sicheng appeared unusually red and pallid. His thin lips were as crimson as blood, and his skin took on a reddish hue.
His brows knitted in pain, and his impeccably handsome face contorted with suffering.
Huo Sicheng was fragile, so fragile that he couldn’t bear her touch.
Her heart raced, palpitated, and she felt overwhelmed by fear and suffocation.
Her heart clenched, and pain coursed through her.
She wasn’t even afraid of death, but her legs felt so heavy she couldn’t move.
Fear.
She feared, feared losing Huo Sicheng.
He was so precious to her.
After her rebirth, all she wanted was revenge, followed by a life focused on loving Huo Sicheng. Yet, between the two of them, the more she yearned for a peaceful and beautiful future, the more their conflicts escalated.
Their relationship was fragile, and she cherished it. She treasured the tranquility and happiness she shared with Huo Sicheng.
Her hands trembled, and fear engulfed her. An invisible force seemed to drag her into the abyss of dread.
No.
She couldn’t lose him. She liked him, loved him.
On the way to the hospital, she had called his name in her heart incessantly.
She missed Huo Sicheng desperately. She wanted to embrace him and promise to be his woman forever.
But what she saw was his ailing appearance, as if he might pass away at any moment.
Her eyes reddened as she approached the bed. Her legs felt heavy, like lead.
“Huo Sicheng, you’ll be fine,” she said as she reached the bedside. Her heart and soul quivered. “Don’t scare me. I promise not to argue with you anymore or make trouble. I’ll support you no matter what you want to do. Please, wake up and look at me, okay?”
