Chapter 242 - 242: Contractual Divorce
Chapter 242 - 242: Contractual Divorce
Her lips moved, and she wanted to ask all the accumulated questions in one go.
In the end, she swallowed them again.
If the words “Miss Li” were like a spell, what Zhao Shu said to her tonight was more like a knife stabbing deep into her heart.
It had been so difficult for her and Huo Sicheng to reconcile and finally lead a peaceful married life.
But those three words, “Miss Li,” casually shattered her peaceful life.
Huo Sicheng noticed that Gu Qingcheng had something on her mind. He approached her and reached out to hold her hand.
The moment his hand touched Gu Qingcheng, he saw her quickly withdraw from him, almost taking a step back. “What’s going on?” he asked softly, “Tell me.”
Gu Qingcheng shook her head. “It’s nothing.”
Huo Sicheng approached Gu Qingcheng again, but this time he didn’t give her a chance to avoid him. He reached out and embraced her.
He felt her tense body, and he gently stroked her back with his large hand.
“Relax,” he soothingly said, “Relax.”
Under Huo Sicheng’s gentle comfort, Gu Qingcheng slowly relaxed.
Huo Sicheng felt Gu Qingcheng relax in his arms, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief before leading her back to the bedroom.
“You must be tired today with our son,” he said with tenderness in his eyes, “Go wash up and get some rest.”
Gu Qingcheng looked at Huo Sicheng and didn’t say anything. She got up from his embrace and went to the bathroom.
Huo Sicheng left the room and went to Huo Xuan’s room. Huo Xuan had just finished washing up and was lying in bed.
“Daddy,” he said as he tried to get up.
“Lie down,” Huo Sicheng came to the bedside and gently asked Huo Xuan, “What did you and Mommy do today?”
“Mommy took me to Uncle Lu Chi’s house today,” Huo Xuan didn’t hide anything from Huo Sicheng, “and then we went to the children’s amusement park for the day.”
When Huo Sicheng heard the words “Uncle Lu Chi,” his brows furrowed. “You really don’t like Qi Shaoze, but you don’t mind Lu Chi?”
“Uncle Lu Chi is very nice. He’s not Mommy’s rival,” Huo Xuan replied confidently, “I can tell that he’s just a friend of Mommy’s, which is why I don’t dislike him and am willing to call him Uncle Lu Chi.”
“Lu Chi is a good person?” Huo Sicheng pondered these words and looked at Huo Xuan, who didn’t dislike Lu Chi. His eyes flickered.
“Yeah, Uncle Lu Chi is really nice,” Huo Xuan said without reservation. “I can tell that he and Mommy are just friends, which is why I don’t dislike him and am willing to call him Uncle Lu Chi.”
“Lu Chi is a good person?” Huo Sicheng repeated the question, his gaze flashing as he looked at Huo Xuan.
“Well, Uncle Lu Chi is a nice person,” Huo Xuan said confidently. Seeing his father’s uncertain expression, he asked, “Is there something wrong with Uncle Lu Chi?”
“No, there’s nothing wrong,” Huo Sicheng concealed the emotions he shouldn’t show and asked Huo Xuan, “When you and Mommy were together, did she meet anyone other than Lu Chi?”
Huo Xuan blinked his big, dark eyes and said, “Daddy, are you asking why Mommy’s not in a good mood?”
“Yes,” Huo Sicheng replied.
“Uncle Lu Chi didn’t do anything to upset Mommy. We just met him briefly and then left,” Huo Xuan truthfully told Huo Sicheng. “At the amusement park, there was a kid who made Mommy upset by starting a fight, but after Mommy scolded him, she felt better. However, I went to the restroom for a while, and during that time, I don’t know where Mommy went, but when I saw her again, her mood wasn’t right.”
“I see. Go to sleep early,” Huo Sicheng said gently.
“Daddy,” Huo Xuan stopped his father, who was about to leave. “You should try to cheer up Mommy. If Mommy isn’t in a good mood for any reason, both of us have a responsibility to make her happy.”
“Okay,” Huo Sicheng replied softly to Huo Xuan’s advice. After a pause, he added, “Don’t play on the computer. Go to sleep early. I’ll take you abroad tomorrow.”
“Why are we going abroad?” Huo Xuan asked in confusion. “Is there something important?”
Huo Sicheng didn’t answer Huo Xuan’s question and left the room.
When he returned to the bedroom, Gu Qingcheng was already lying in bed with her back to him. She didn’t look as happy and flirtatious as before.
On the bed, he reached out and pulled her into his arms. Her body first stiffened and then relaxed.
He broke the silence and asked her, “You wanted to ask me something, didn’t you?”
The words from Huo Sicheng sounded like a dagger to Gu Qingcheng’s heart.
Had he done something wrong?
Hearing these words, she felt a sense of indignation as they seemed like a deliberate inquiry.
However, when it came to the question she actually wanted to ask – whether he was going to meet Miss Li overseas tomorrow – she hesitated.
Thinking of what Zhao Shu had said, she felt that she had the capability to follow on her own. To follow, she couldn’t tell Huo Sicheng, so she couldn’t ask him if he was going to meet Miss Li overseas.
She softly told him, “You haven’t done anything wrong.”
“Then who upset you?” Huo Sicheng asked softly. “Tell me, and I’ll handle it.” “Honey…” Huo Sicheng’s gentle voice trailed off. “Tell me, I know you’re not in a good mood. Did I do something wrong?”
His words pierced through Gu Qingcheng’s heart like a knife.
She used to call him “husband” sweetly and playfully every day, but he hadn’t even called her “wife” yet.
His behavior made it hard for her not to have doubts and anxieties.
“By the way, do you have time tomorrow?” she asked him. “How about we take our son to Peach Blossom Island for a few days?”
Huo Sicheng’s lips twitched, and he instinctively wanted to agree to go with her. However, his thoughts flashed through his mind, and he softly said, “I have some business to attend to abroad. When I come back, we can go, alright?”
If Gu Qingcheng had previously been reluctant to fully believe what Zhao Shu had said, Huo Sicheng’s response now confirmed that Zhao Shut s words were indeed true.
She had invited him to go out, giving him a choice.
He chose between her and Miss Li.
And he had made his choice without any hesitation, choosing Miss Li over her.
Her heart ached, the pain making it hard to breathe.
She didn’t ask for much – she just wanted a peaceful life with him and their son. Yet, he didn’t give her that choice.
She had only invited him to go out for a few days, not for a month or two. It was just a matter of a few days, and he could have discussed with Miss Li to postpone their meeting for a few days. That would have been a choice in her favor.
However, he flatly refused her request without any hesitation, unwilling to accompany her and preferring to meet Miss Li.
For some reason, she thought of that contract again – the one-year contract with both her and Huo Sicheng’s names on it.
More than half of the time had passed since she signed that contract, and she couldn’t help but wonder if they would really divorce after one year.
Her heart ached, making it difficult to breathe.
“Well, let’s go when you come back,” she said, trying to make her voice sound gentle. “It’s late, let’s go to sleep. I took our son to the amusement park today, and I’m tired.”
Huo Sicheng’s gentle kisses landed on Gu Qingcheng’s hair as he softly said,
“Go to sleep.”
Gu Qingcheng closed her eyes, hiding her secret. She couldn’t sleep, but she was afraid of disturbing Huo Sicheng, so she lay there, feeling like the night was dragging on forever.
The next day, the morning sun shone over the entire Jiangcheng.
Gu Qingcheng and Huo Sicheng’s son had breakfast together. To avoid an awkward situation, she spoke up first, “I need to make a quick trip to Emperor Arts. I’ll call you.”
Huo Sicheng replied, “Alright.’
Huo Xuan watched his mother leave with a puzzled look and then turned to Huo Sicheng.. “Dad, didn’t you say we were going abroad? Why isn’t Mommy coming with us?”
