Chapter 318 - 318: Acting Coquettishly in His Arms
Chapter 318 - 318: Acting Coquettishly in His Arms
“Take me there quickly.”
Gu Tianhao fell from the sixth floor, coughing up blood, unconscious, with a broken arm and two ribs.
In the ambulance, doctors were treating Gu Tianhao. Chu He sat by, watching the barely alive Gu Tianhao, tears and worries all spent.
A thought crossed her mind. if Gu Tianhao died or remained unconscious, she wouldn’t have to divorce him. Their daughter, Gu Mei, wouldn’t have to worry about money for treatment, and she wouldn’t lose everything. “How is my husband, doctor?” she asked, “Is he in danger?”
“Madam, we still don’t know,” the doctor told Chu He. “The hospital is doing its best to save Mr. Gu.”
Chu He didn’t speak again, her clasped hands whitening at the knuckles, betraying her intense emotions.
Just as Gu Qingcheng was dizzyingly busy and about to leave Diyi, her phone rang.
To her surprise, it was a call from Huo Sicheng; he rarely called her.
On the phone, Huo Sicheng’s voice was gentle. “Are you done?”
Gu Qingcheng. “Just finished, about to drive.”
Huo Sicheng. “I’m waiting at your door.”
Surprised, Gu Qingcheng immediately realized Huo Sicheng had come to Diyi.
“No need to wait outside, drive in. I’m too tired to walk.”
Huo Sicheng. “Okay.”
Sitting in Huo Sicheng’s car, Gu Qingcheng slumped into the seat, exhausted.
Huo Sicheng, seeing her tired state, tenderly wrapped his arms around her.
Gu Qingcheng didn’t resist Huo Sicheng’s embrace. As she buried her head in his chest, her arms around his solid frame, he felt her fatigue and the strength of her embrace. His phoenix eyes softened, tender kisses landing on her dark hair.
He knew she was exhausted, having stayed up nights at Longshan Cemetery to watch over the critically ill Qi Shaoze, then working non-stop at Diyi. Her physical strength had long been overdrawn.
Gu Qingcheng, comforted by Huo Sicheng’s unique scent, fell asleep in his arms, unable to keep her eyes open.
Huo Sicheng gently stroked her slender back, feeling the steadiness of her breathing, his grip tightening around her.
After so many days, she finally didn’t resist his embrace, sleeping peacefully in his arms – a beautiful feeling for him.
In the hall of Wanmei Villa, Huo Xuan saw his mother, Gu Qingcheng, lying in his father’s arms as they entered, and his dull eyes instantly brightened.
“Mummy…”
“Shh…” Huo Sicheng gestured for silence, “Your mom hasn’t slept for days, she’s exhausted. I’ll take her to her room to sleep.”
Hearing his father’s words, Huo Xuan nodded understandingly, full of concern.
Huo Sicheng gently laid Gu Qingcheng on the bed, covering her with a blanket.
Standing behind Huo Sicheng, Huo Xuan quietly asked, “Daddy, why hasn’t Mummy slept for so many nights?”
Huo Sicheng gestured towards the door as they left the room.
“Your mom has been very busy,” he told Huo Xuan softly. “You wanted to surprise her last night but couldn’t wait for her return. She had urgent matters to attend to, otherwise she wouldn’t have stayed out.”
Huo Xuan, tilting his head, looked at the closed door, then at his dad.
“Okay, I reluctantly believe Daddy didn’t lie, because if Mom lets you hold her back, it means she has forgiven you.”
Huo Sicheng sighed, “You’re too clever for your age. Your mom might sleep until late, you should go eat and sleep.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to Daddy.”
Huo Sicheng watched Huo Xuan leave, then lay down beside Gu Qingcheng.
He gazed at her peaceful sleeping face, his eyes filled with deep affection.
Gu Qingcheng slept soundly, waking up the next morning.
Feeling a strong arm around her waist and a steady heartbeat in her ear, she opened her drowsy eyes in surprise and looked up, her gaze meeting his starry phoenix eyes.
Huo Sicheng softly said, “Good morning.”
Stunned, Gu Qingcheng slowly realized she had fallen asleep in Huo Sicheng’s arms.
“I’m so hungry,” she said hoarsely.
Huo Sicheng. “I’ll have breakfast sent in.”
“No, I don’t like eating in bed,” Gu Qingcheng shook her head. “Since we’re back at the villa, let’s get up and go to the dining room. I owe our son an apology.” Huo Sicheng tenderly stroked her hair.
“Mummy.” Huo Xuan happily hugged her when he saw her. “I’ve missed you so much.”
Gu Qingcheng bent down to hug Huo Xuan, kissing his cheek.
“I’ve missed you too,” she told him softly, apologizing, “Sorry, I promised to come home but couldn’t.”
Huo Xuan comforted her, “I understand your busyness, Mummy. You’ve worked hard.”
Gu Qingcheng chuckled as they sat down at the dining table.
“Mummy, I’m so hungry. Shall we eat together?”
Huo Xuan. “Sure.”
Gu Qingcheng ate a lot, obviously hungry.
Seeing her like this, Huo Xuan felt sorry for her but also wanted to surprise her.
He quietly left, returning quickly to the dining room.
“Mummy, here’s the surprise I wanted to give you.”
Gu Qingcheng, having just finished breakfast, turned to his sweet voice and was stunned.
A painting.
It depicted their living room; she had long hair draped over her shoulders, wearing a lily-of-the-valley long dress, smiling and holding Huo Xuan.
Huo Sicheng, in a sharp suit, held both of them, the three looking warm and happy.
The painting was lifelike.
She knew Huo Xuan could paint, but this was astonishingly good, making her doubt if he really did it.
Astonished and joyous, she asked, “Did you paint this?”
“Yes,” Huo Xuan smiled sweetly. “This is our family. This is Daddy, this is Mummy, this is me, my surprise for you. Do you like it?”
“I love it,” Gu Qingcheng replied without hesitation, looking at the painting filled with happiness and joy. “I love the surprise gift from you, very much.” Huo Xuan, seeing her happy, glanced at Huo Sicheng.
Huo Sicheng’s eyes were full of love for Gu Qingcheng, too mesmerized to look away.
Huo Xuan’s big eyes shifted between his parents, visibly relieved.
It seemed his parents had reconciled, and their family was back to being happy. “I’m glad you like it,” he said, hugging Gu Qingcheng’s legs. “I love you so much, Mummy.”
“I love you too,” Gu Qingcheng kissed his cheek. “How long did it take to paint
Huo Xuan said, “Two weeks.”
Gu Qingcheng. “You’re amazing, my son. I’ll organize an exhibition for you.”
Huo Xuan clapped happily. “Okay.”
Suddenly, Gu Qingcheng’s phone rang. It was Chu He calling, causing her brow to furrow.
“Baby, Mummy needs to take a call.”
Huo Xuan. “Okay.”
Gu Qingcheng stepped outside to answer.
On the phone, Chu He’s scornful voice came first.. “Gu Qingcheng, do you think by forcing Gu Tianhao to divorce me, you’ll defeat me?”
