Chapter 401 - 401: Are You Worthy To Play With Me?
Gu Mei stiffened, her eyes widening in disbelief.
She couldn’t believe that Gu Qingcheng was asking her who was behind the kidnapping.
The moment Gu Qingcheng asked this question, Gu Mei’s earlier thoughts of Gu Qingcheng being foolish seemed more like her own stupidity.
Gu Qingcheng’s questioning indicated that she doesn’t believe a word she said, and she even suspected that someone was helping her with the kidnapping.
“Big sister, what are you talking about?” she feigned ignorance with a very ugly expression, “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
Gu Qingcheng’s beautiful face was cold as ice, her slanted eyes sharp and piercing as she stared at the bodyguards and assassins ready to attack her.
Gu Mei’s words only intensified the murderous intent in Gu Qingcheng’s eyes, and the hand that had loosened around Gu Mei’s neck tightened once again.
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand, I can remind you,” Gu Qingcheng said coldly, moving Gu Mei towards the door as a hostage, “No one in the entire Jiang City’s underworld would take your job to kidnap me, hence these foreign assassins are here. And you, a brainless fool, couldn’t possibly know people from the international underworld. There must be someone helping you behind the scenes.”
Gu Mei’s face changed drastically. She hadn’t expected Gu Qingcheng to be so clever to deduce the person behind her from these foreign assassins.
“Big sister… you misunderstand, it really is a misunderstanding, I just came to pay the ransom to rescue you…”
“You never paid any ransom because everything you said is a lie,” Gu Qingcheng said with a piercing gaze, focusing on the bodyguards trying to rescue Gu Mei, “Gu Mei, do you think by using Bai Si’s fake call and then tricking me into going to the hospital to kidnap me, you could get what you wanted?”
Gu Mei was startled.
“You… how did you…”
“How did I find out about Bai Si’s fake call, right?” Gu Qingcheng’s hand on Gu Mei’s neck slowly tightened, “Your mother Chu He must have told you that I had people protecting Gu Tianhao at the hospital. Since I’m protecting Gu Tianhao, there are my bodyguards at the hospital. If Gu Tianhao was really dying, I wouldn’t need Bai Si to contact me; those bodyguards would inform me first.
Gu Mei realized there was no point in pretending and lying to Gu Qingcheng anymore.
Since Gu Qingcheng already knew she was lying, she stopped pretending.
“If you knew I was lying, why did you still come to the hospital?” she asked, her doubts evident, “Weren’t you afraid I would kill you then?”
Gu Qingcheng felt a pain in her heart.
Why did she go to the hospital? Because Miss Li called Huo Sicheng late at night, and Miss Li was pregnant, a series of news that almost drove her insane.
Brokenhearted and in pain over Huo Sicheng’s betrayal, she found it hard to breathe.
It was the news of Miss Li’s pregnancy that left her in turmoil and heartbroken. She planned to go to France with Huo Sicheng to meet this Miss Li.
Unable to bear being in the dark about Miss Li, she was in a state of confusion when she received Bai Si’s call.
Hearing Bai Si say that Gu Tianhao was dying, she didn’t think much and went straight to the hospital.
Afterward, she called Lu Chi angrily. Although Lu Chi had just woken up, he wouldn’t lie to her.
If something happened to Gu Tianhao, she would be the first to know, followed by Lu Chi.
She has a quick temper, but it also subsides fast. After yelling at Lu Chi and hanging up, she had calmed down.
Because she had calmed down, she started to sense something was wrong.
If Gu Tianhao was dying, Lu Chi couldn’t be unaware, and she wouldn’t be ignored by the people sent by Huazhongjin. So there had to be something fishy.
At that moment, she realized she must have been set up, and then she felt danger approaching.
In a state of alert, her years of boxing had taught her how to anticipate harm in advance.
When the hand knife was chopping down towards her neck, she slightly tilted her head, so the hand knife didn’t hit the spot that could knock her unconscious.
Even though she wasn’t knocked out, the pain in her neck and dizziness made her eyes black out for a moment, and she pretended to fall to the ground.
With her eyes barely open, she saw a tall foreign man quickly carrying her to the back seat of a car in the underground parking lot.
She had the chance to fight back and escape when she was put into the car, but she didn’t, knowing that those who kidnapped her didn’t intend to kill her; otherwise, they would have done more than just knock her out.
So, she pretended to be knocked out, always looking out the window, and saw the car heading to the outskirts.
She wanted to contact Lu Chi for help, but her phone was taken away at the hospital, obviously to prevent her from being tracked.
The car took the highway and finally stopped in a nearly abandoned village in a valley, where she heard Gu Mei’s voice.
When Gu Mei saw her, Gu Qingcheng clearly saw the hatred in her eyes, but Gu Mei didn’t do anything, just locked her in that extremely cold room.
She could have killed Gu Mei then, but she didn’t.
Since Gu Mei dared to kidnap her with so many foreign men, even if she killed Gu Mei, there would still be hidden dangers. Therefore, she kept pretending to be unconscious, eventually waking up deliberately to seize the opportunity to find out who was helping Gu Mei behind the scenes.
But Gu Qingcheng didn’t tell Gu Mei all this, she just said, “You wouldn’t kill me, because if I died, Huo Sicheng would avenge me, and you wouldn’t survive! So you can capture me to threaten Huo Sicheng, resolve him first, then kill me!”
Gu Mei was shocked, Gu Qingcheng had seen through her plan.
It’s bad.
Qi Shaoze must not appear.
She couldn’t let Gu Qingcheng discover Qi Shaoze’s existence, otherwise, she would be as good as dead.
As long as she didn’t confess Qi Shaoze was working with her, Gu Qingcheng wouldn’t kill her to find out who was behind her.
After all, if she died, the person behind her wouldn’t let Gu Qingcheng off.
Gu Qingcheng wanted a permanent solution; unless she found out who was helping her and killed them, as long as she kept silent, she could survive.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, ” she stubbornly feigned ignorance, quickly signaling the assassins, hoping they could either subdue Gu Qingcheng or inform Qi Shaoze to leave quickly and avoid being discovered by Gu Qingcheng.
“You know what I’m talking about,” Gu Qingcheng told Gu Mei coldly, “Pretending to be dumb is useless. If you want to live, it’s better to confess honestly.”
Gu Mei clenched her teeth, hating Gu Qingcheng to death.
Why did fate let a person like Gu Qingcheng live!
What made her feel that fate was blind was why she couldn’t outsmart Gu Qingcheng every time she schemed.
She refused to accept defeat to Gu Qingcheng.
But at this moment, she didn’t know how to save herself, facing Gu Qingcheng helplessly.
“Confess?” she spoke, “What do you want me to confess?”
