Chapter 267 - 267: Please Sign This Medical Waiver

The ambulance arrived and took Tang Beibei and Song Zhou to the hospital.

Ruan Qi, who was covered in blood, stared blankly at the light outside the operating theater. She blinked and tears fell.

There was central air-conditioning in the hospital, so it wasn’t that cold.

However, Ruan Qi was still shivering from the cold. Her teeth were chattering and she wasn’t steady on her feet.

Ji Yi quickly held her up. “Miss Ruan, are you hurt?”

“No, I’m waiting for Song Zhou.”

Ji Yi saw her abnormally flushed face and touched her forehead. She was burning up.

“Miss Ruan, you’re sick.”

“Hmm?”

Ruan Qi felt buzzing in her ears but she could not make out what Ji Yi said. She told him again that she was waiting for Song Zhou.

Ji Yi was worried that her brain would be damaged if her fever persisted. He quickly called a doctor to examine her, but she refused and struggled to push him away.

Jiang Jingchen frowned. “If you want to wait for Song Zhou, you should wait properly. If you have a high fever and damage your brain, do you expect Song Zhou to take care of you?”

After getting scolded, Ruan Qi squatted on the floor and began to cry.

“I’m afraid that something will happen to Song Zhou. 1 don’t want to leave him.”

“If you’re afraid that something will happen to him, all the more you should take care of yourself first. How else will you take care of him when he wakes up?”

Ruan Qi sniffled and looked at him with teary eyes. “You mean, Song Zhou will wake up, and he won’t, won’t…”

She couldn’t bring herself to say the word “die”.

“He won’t!”

Ruan Qi only got up after she heard Jiang Jingchen’s affirmation and followed Ji Yi to see a doctor.

Jiang Jingchen could comfort others, but when he saw his beloved woman in the operating theater, he couldn’t remain calm.

After waiting for more than an hour, the door to Song Zhou’s operating theater opened, and a nurse walked out.

“Who is Song Zhou’s family member? I need someone to sign this medical waiver.”

Ruan Qi, who had just taken her medicine, heard the nurse ask someone to sign Song Zhou’s medical waiver. Her face turned pale as she looked at Jiang Jingchen.

Jiang Jingchen’s face fell too.

When he got into his car accident years ago, Song Zhou left the country to take care of him. The two of them had been together for years. Although they were boss and employee, they were more like blood-related brothers.

Jiang Jingchen was indifferent to his blood relatives, but he cherished Song Zhou. When he looked at the medical waiver now, he felt as if his hand weighed a thousand pounds when he picked up the pen.

He had signed documents that Song Zhou brought to him countless times, but he couldn’t bring himself to sign his medical waiver.

“Nurse, what’s wrong with Song Zhou? Why do we need to sign a waiver?”

The nurse also understood how a patient’s family could be upset, so she explained patiently, “There are a few shrapnel lodged in his back, very close to his spine. If his spinal nerves are injured, he might be paralyzed for life.”

Ruan Qi covered her face and cried.

If he hadn’t blocked those shrapnel for her, she would be the one on the operating table now.

Her sorrowful whimpers sounded more like a wail, extremely heart-wrenching.

Jiang Jingchen got annoyed. “Please stop crying.”

“I-I can’t control myself.”

Ruan Qi quickly wiped away her tears. She wiped so hard that her cheeks turned red.

Jiang Jingchen started to sign the waiver, hoping to finish his signature in one stroke but his hand slipped, and the pen penetrated the paper. But he had to complete his signature.

The nurse took the signed waiver and asked them to wait patiently before she went back into the operating theater.

Jiang Jingchen turned his head to look at Tang Beibei’s operating theater. He prayed hard that the heavens wouldn’t play a joke on him and ask him to sign another damn waiver.

Two hours later, the red light outside Tang Beibei’s operating theater turned green.

The green light meant that her surgery was over.

The doors to her operating theatre opened, and the nurses and doctors pushed Tang Beibei out. Jiang Jingchen quickly got up and asked, “How is my wife?”

The doctor said, “The surgery went well. The bullet has been removed and no vital organs were damaged. She’s very lucky. If the bullet struck her at a slightly different angle, it would have burst her coronary sinus. If the bleeding couldn’t be stopped, even the gods can’t save her.”

Jiang Jingchen looked at the woman on the gurney with her eyes tightly shut. He lowered his head and kissed her lovingly between her eyebrows.

The doctor continued, “The anesthetic hasn’t worn off yet. She’ll sleep for a few more hours and then she’ll slowly recover.”

Three hours after Tang Beibei was brought back to her ward, the light outside Song Zhou’s operating theater turned green. No news since the medical waiver was good news.

When the doctors and nurses pushed him out, Ruan Qi quickly went to ask them about Song Zhou.

The doctor said, “Mr. Song is very lucky. The King of Hell didn’t want him and we brought him back.”

This meant that his life was no longer in danger.

Ruan Qi cried tears of joy and looked at the person on the hospital gurney gratefully.

When Jiang Jingchen heard that Song Zhou was fine, he let out a sigh of relief and comforted Ruan Qi, “Surviving a great disaster brings great fortune. Take care of yourself and then take care of him.”

“Yes, I will!”

Ruan Qi looked at the man on the gurney. This was the man who protected her with his life.

She would agree to register their marriage immediately, let alone take care of him.

Jiang Jingchen went back to Tang Beibei’s ward. After waiting for a few hours, the woman in the hospital bed slowly woke up. She looked around the room a few times to make sure that she was in a warm hospital and not in freezing hell.

“Obedient Beibei, how do you feel now?”

Hearing the familiar voice, Tang Beibei turned her head to look and pulled on her wound. She hissed in pain.

“Don’t move. Your wound is recovering. You need to rest now.” Jiang Jingchen whispered.

Tang Beibei stopped moving and called out to him in a hoarse voice, “Water.”

Jiang Jingchen quickly went to pour her some warm water and slowly fed it to her. Tang Beibei smiled.

“Hubby, sweet,”

“What’s sweet?”

“The water you gave me.”

Jiang Jingchen was stunned for a few seconds when he saw the woman’s mischievous smile. He chuckled and lowered his head to kiss her on the lips.

“Yes, this is sweet too.”

Tang Beibei smiled but smiling made her wound hurt. She frowned reluctantly and stopped smiling.

“If you are in pain, rest. Close your eyes and sleep, sweetheart.” Jiang Jingchen said lovingly.

Tang Beibei said, “I don’t want to sleep. 1 want to look at you.”

Jiang Jingchen’s heart melted. He slumped over her bed and held her hand.

“I’m here, always. Don’t be afraid, I’ll sleep with you.”

Hearing his promise, Tang Beibei closed her eyes obediently.

When Jiang Jingchen heard her steady breathing, he slowed his breath and tried to move his hand away. But the woman suddenly opened her eyes and looked at him in horror.

“Hubby.”

“I’m here, don’t be afraid, 1 just need the bathroom.”

Jiang Jingchen hugged her gently with heartache. He was going to find Ji Yi to ask him how the investigation was going.

He had to find out who tried to kill him and pay them back tenfold or a hundredfold!

Tang Beibei stared at him without blinking. She waited for him to kiss her so she could be sure that he was there before she slowly closed her eyes and held his hand tightly, unwilling to let go.

Jiang Jingchen’s heart ached. How much did she love him to be willing to die for him? Even when she was asleep, she would wake up when she felt that he was about to leave just to make sure that he was safe.

He slept with her for a whole day and Ruan Qi came over a few times and told him about Song Zhou’s condition.

Song Zhou was in a worse condition than Tang Beibei. Although he had woken up, he could not move at all.

Jiang Jingchen listened quietly. He asked Ruan Qi to stay with Tang Beibei while he checked on Song Zhou.

Song Zhou’s situation was very similar to his all those years ago.

Song Zhou was awake but felt groggy. When he saw Jiang Jingchen and confirmed that he was fine, he was relieved that everyone was okay.

Jiang Jingchen asked, “When you were driving, did you feel that something was wrong with the car?”

Song Zhou thought for a while before he said, “I was going quite fast then. The brakes and steering wheel stopped working almost at the same time. The fuel tank must have exploded after we lost control of the car.”

“Someone tampered with our car and wanted us to get into an accident. Young Master, could it be Jiang Minglang?”

Jiang Jingchen narrowed his eyes and said in a cold voice, “We’ll know if it’s him when we are done investigating..”
