Chapter 299 - 299: Such IQ-lowering Gestures
Before Lantern Festival, Jiang Jingchen received a call from Song Yan asking him to bring Tang Beibei back to the Jiang residence for dinner.
Jiang Jingchen sneered, knowing that Song Yan was up to no good again.
However, he didn’t want to waste his time with them on Lantern Festival. He wanted to spend it in peace with his wife.
His wife used to be quite afraid of festive holidays because every holiday, the Rong family would celebrate happily while she was all alone. Not only would she be excluded, but she would also be ordered to do all kinds of chores.
He didn’t want to bring her to the Jiang residence for a banquet on holidays like this. Instead, he wanted to give her happy memories of festive holidays.
He found a random excuse to decline Song Yan.
When he put down his phone, he didn’t need to wonder to know that Song Yan would tell Jiang Xing about his rejection and make Jiang Xing think worse of him.
He deliberated and dialed Jiang Xing’s number, explained his situation, and apologized to him for not going back to celebrate Lantern Festival with him.
Jiang Xing listened to his explanation and did not force the matter. After all, they would still see each other in the office.
After Jiang Jingchen hung up, he went downstairs and saw Song Zhou working on something.
“What are you doing?”
“Making a lantern.”
“What lantern?”
“A Lantern Festival lantern. 1 heard that if a man make a lantern for his woman on Lantern Festival, all her wishes in that year will come true.” Song Zhou explained seriously.
“What kind of nonsense is that?”
Jiang Jingchen frowned, thinking that Song Zhou must have lost his mind during recuperation that he would believe such stupid legends.
Song Zhou picked up some materials and said, “Young Master, I bought an extra set of materials. Would you like to make one too?”
Jiang Jingchen stared at the materials in disgust and didn’t speak.
Song Zhou continued, “This is for good luck and to win your wife’s favor. Young Master, if you’re unwilling, then forget it.”
“Who says I’m unwilling? Give me the materials!”
Thus, the two of them started their lantern-making project.
When Tang Beibei came out of the study, she saw her husband and Song Zhou packing up things sneakily like they were hiding some secret.
“What are you two doing? Do you need my help?”
“Nothing, I was discussing something with Song Zhou. It’s a men thing and you don’t need to get involved!”
Tang Beibei felt strange. The two of them still avoided her when they went downstairs. She was really curious.
She pretended to get some water to see what Song Zhou was carrying back to his room. She rushed up to him, took his hand away and checked.
She was surprised and stunned to see that it was an ancient-style Chinese lantern.
“Didn’t Qiqi say that she really wanted a prop lantern? This looks pretty good.”
“Shh, this is my Lantern Festival gift for Ruan Qi. It’s a surprise.” Song Zhou put his palms together and begged.
Tang Beibei understood. She pursed her lips, made a zipping gesture, and ran to play with the two puppies.
Song Zhou breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Jiang Jingchen.
Jiang Jingchen acted indifferent, as if such IQ-lowering gestures had nothing to do with him.
H H
Song Zhou felt that he had been slighted but he had no evidence.
They finally had a day off from the dance studio on Lantern Festival.
After breakfast, Tang Beibei and Jiang Jingchen started bathing the two puppies.
Usually, Silent Sister would bring the puppies to a pet store to have them cleaned, but Tang Beibei would bathe them herself when she had time. She wanted to save money on one hand, and on the other hand, she wanted to bond with the puppies.
The two golden retrievers that were rolling about in the bathtub weren’t afraid. They enjoyed their mummy giving them a bath.
They played with a ball in the bathtub and soon, there was water everywhere and Tang Beibei was wet.
Tang Beibei became playful and splashed water with the two of them. In the end, Jiang Jingchen also got splashed.
He slowly shook off the water droplets on his body and pinched the mischievous Xiaoan. If he didn’t behave in the bath, he would be pressed into the water and let go only when he begged for mercy.
Xiaoan felt wronged. He licked his daddy’s hand in a fawning manner to save his own life.
After drying off the two puppies, Tang Beibei went to the market. She wanted to cook lunch personally to celebrate Lantern Festival.
After the groceries arrived home, Silent Sister washed and prep the ingredients for Tang Beibei, the chef.
Tang Beibei made eight dishes and one soup for lunch, six meat dishes, and two vegetarian dishes.
The young people had many topics to talk about. They chatted as they ate lunch. Their Lantern Festival was quiet yet warm, celebratory yet ordinary.
After lunch, Tang Beibei went to read while Ruan Qi went to practice dance.
Jiang Jingchen and Song Zhou sneaked into the guest room to complete their lantern-making project.
At night, there was a tradition of lighting up in capital city.
As night fell, people lit up small candles at every corner of their houses, to ward off evil and invite peace and harmony. Illumination represented the Buddha.
After eating the glutinous rice balls made by Silent Sister, the four of them started to light candles around the villa.
The reason festivals were special was because rituals like this.
Each of these rituals had traces of history, and those history were filled with wonderful hopes and expectations.
After lighting the candles, they turned off the lights and every corner of the dark villa was punctuated with candles with their flames swaying gracefully. Song Zhou took a few photos and asked the two girls to make a video.
Tang Beibei agreed with a smile. When she lived with the Rongs, she was always chased to the basement during festive holidays.
She would steal candles during Lantern Festivals so she could light up the basement and make the wish that she would have her own house one day that she could light up with countless candles.
The heavens had been very kind to her now that her wish had come true.
The two of them made a Lantern Festival video. As Song Zhou had captured a lot of video footage during the day, he was able to quickly put everything together so they could post the video.
After they posted the video on their vlog, Song Zhou suggested that they go out for a walk.
The two girls had no objections and went to put on their shoes. Song Zhou coughed once when he saw that the two of them didn’t even bother to clean up.
He took out a bag and handed it to them. “Here are two sets of Han clothing. 1 bought them for you to add to the festive mood.”
Ruan Qi took the bag doubtfully and shook an outfit open. She realized that it was a super expensive Han costume that she had seen online but couldn’t bear to buy. She did not expect Song Zhou to buy it.
“Song Zhou, how did you know that 1 like this outfit?”
“If 1 told you I guessed it, would you believe me?”
Song Zhou wasn’t telling her the truth. He had peeked at her shopping cart.
He didn’t know what to give her for Lantern Festival, so he peeked at her shopping cart and bought her the most expensive item there.
As the design for this Han outfit was exquisite and the materials used to make it were expensive, it cost close to eight thousand yuan.
However, Song Zhou felt that a Han costume like this was much cheaper than some luxury goods.
Jiang Jingchen casually bought one for Tang Beibei too, which cost tens of thousands of yuan.
Compared to Jiang Jingchen, Song Zhou felt that he was quite thrifty when it came to keeping his girlfriend happy.
The two girls went to change into their Han costumes. Song Zhou was also very attentive. He bought headpieces along with the clothes . When the two girls came downstairs, they were clinging and clanging.
The crisp metallic sounds were made by the dangling ornaments on the girls’ headpieces as they walked. It was quite pleasant to the ear.
Tang Beibei walked quickly to Jiang Jingchen and twirled around. “Hubby, do I look nice?”
Jiang Jingchen saw that she was wearing makeup again. Her lips were red, and her teeth were white. Her delicate facial features were even more beautiful, especially her eyes. They were dazzling when she looked at him.
He stared at her lips.
His little wife looked like a princess in her Han costume.
“Yes, very nice, but it’s missing something.”
“What?”
