Chapter 685 - 685: Alice’s Attitude
Entering through the front door was certainly out of the question. With the abundance of surveillance cameras, discovery was all but guaranteed, and who knew what dangers that would pose to the two young women inside.
Luckily, the adjacent unit was unoccupied. Luo Feng easily picked the lock and slipped in. The space was still under construction, unfinished.
From the balcony, Luo Feng peered at the unit next door. As he suspected, he saw George’s balcony; its glass doors were taped over, obscuring any view inside.
The number of cameras on the balcony was undoubtedly fewer than those inside the apartment. Luo Feng vaulted over, landing silently on George’s balcony. The glass doors were sealed with clear tape, preventing him from seeing inside, let alone opening them.
Frustrated, Luo Feng peered through the small gaps between the tape. The living room appeared disheveled, as if someone had been living there.
However, it was unlikely that the space was being used to hold hostages.
After a moment’s reflection, Luo Feng realized George must have recently purchased this apartment specifically to conceal Jardins and Alice. The man was indeed resourceful; Luo Feng doubted anyone else would have found this location.
Convinced that Jardins and Alice were likely inside, Luo Feng wasted no more time. He pried open a small gap in the taped glass door and peeked into the living room. After identifying some blind spots in the room’s surveillance, he stealthily infiltrated the apartment.
Upon entering the living room, Luo Feng immediately heard the rustle of activity from both the master and secondary bedrooms. He silently approached the master bedroom, listening intently before confirming that the voice inside belonged to Alice.
If Alice was in the master bedroom, then Jardins must be in the other.
Rather than rushing to rescue them, Luo Feng first exited the apartment and dashed to the building’s electrical room. He forcefully pulled down the circuit breaker, plunging the entire complex into darkness.
There he found Jardins, her hands and feet bound, a cloth stuffed into her mouth, her face etched with agony.
“Are you okay? I’m sorry I’m late,” Luo Feng whispered as he untied Jardins. Jardins frantically gestured toward the master bedroom.
“I’m not important. Go save Alice. She’s so young and must be terrified!”
Complying, Luo Feng headed to the master bedroom, only to find Alice far more composed than he had expected. Her face showed no signs of panic or fear.
“Are you alright?” Luo Feng began untying Alice, who replied with a furrowed brow, “These people kidnapped me to target my father. Hurry and help him. We cannot let their scheme succeed.”
Sometimes Luo Feng wondered if Alice was really just a teenager. Her composure was more akin to a seasoned veteran. But perhaps this was a result of her unique childhood experiences.
“Don’t worry. Your father has prepared impeccably. I think this ordeal is almost over,” Luo Feng reassured her.
“Have you found who kidnapped me?”
“Yes, it was someone from your own company.”
Luo Feng was puzzled by Alice’s steely demeanor. In this situation, her first concern wasn’t seeking comfort or protection; it was understanding the full context.
Yet Alice revealed no plans. “It’s fine. All these things probably have nothing to do with me. I trust my dad will handle everything well.”
When Alice said this, Luo Feng felt relieved. She seemed naturally gifted in business, even if she herself didn’t seem too keen on it.
“Do you know? Your dad secured one billion in cash to save you. He even ousted unsupportive shareholders.”
Alice was unimpressed. “That’s just his way of doing things. He’s been dissatisfied with some of those shareholders for a long time. Saving me provided an excuse, but it was also a chance to eliminate them.”
Stretching lazily, Alice showed no signs of someone who had been kidnapped..
