Chapter 64 - 64: Feeling That It’s Unwise to Keep a Grown Woman at Home
If Suri had said that, maybe she would have stayed.
She wanted to get to know Yigol, to see what the man her daughter had chosen looked like, but the premise to this understanding was that Suri would not be repulsed by it.
But Suri didn’t speak up, which obviously meant she didn’t feel the same way. Why should she do something to upset her daughter?
While Sherry Woods spoke, she took the opportunity to look at Yigol, trying to remember his face. This was the first man her daughter had ever dated.
Perhaps, he might be the one to spend the rest of his life with her daughter.
Yigol looked quite good, seemingly taller than Suri. He seemed like a respectable young man.
Taking a look around the house, Sherry Woods noted that it was well-kept and tidy. Despite not living with Suri, she knew a few things about her daughter. Housekeeping was not exactly one of Suri’s strong suits, which meant that Yigol must have cleaned the house.
A fine young man indeed, and most importantly, her daughter seemed to be fond of him. That was good enough.
When Sherry Woods had arrived, she had been quite worried. In her mind, men were not to be relied upon. Unexpectedly, Yigol had left a good impression on her.
Having said that, Sherry Woods wanted to divert Yigol and exit Suri’s house.
Just then, Suri stepped in, blocking Sherry Woods’ path. She waved her idle hands and said, “Mom, Yigol asked you to stay. Please don’t go.”
Did she mean that Suri had allowed her to stay because of Yigol?
Indeed, that’s what Suri had thought. She didn’t want Yigol to see her and her mother’s strained relations. She was strong and didn’t want to show Yigol her less- affable side.
“Yeah, Ms Woods, please don’t leave.” , Yigol said nervously, unaware of the peculiar atmosphere between Suri and her mother.
Sherry Woods felt a twinge of bitterness in her heart. This wasn’t Suri’s fault, but she couldn’t help but feel sad.
She thought about her own youthful years. She had made some decisions in a hurry and faced dire consequences. Looking at her daughter’s state now, she worried that Suri might lose herself the same way she did.
However, nobody could interfere in matters of the heart. She just hoped that her daughter could live her life more discerningly and not repeat her past mistakes.
Now that her daughter had spoken, it wouldn’t be good for her to insist on leaving.
Otherwise, it would be awkward when Yigol noticed the strained relationship between them.
So, Sherry Woods agreed to stay.
As they sat down on the couches, Sherry Woods on one and Suri on the other, Yigol naturally took a seat beside Suri.
Neither mother nor daughter began speaking, causing Yigol to find the situation rather strange. This atmosphere was indeed rather unusual.
Yigol didn’t understand the relationship between the mother and daughter. He thought the weird atmosphere was perhaps due to his presence. After some thought, he decided to speak up, “Ms Woods, my name is Yigol. Suri is slightly older than me.”
“You, you’re younger than Suri?” Sherry Woods was surprised.
“Yes, indeed.” Yigol was a little dumbfounded.
This was his first time meeting his mother-in-law and he had no previous experience with such encounters. He was puzzled by Sherry Woods’ reaction.
“You knew my daughter was older than you, and you’re still with her?” Sherry Woods struggled to compress her turbulent emotions, but she still seemed a bit agitated.
“Yeah, what’s wrong with that? It’s quite common for a woman to be older than a man. I don’t mind, and Suri doesn’t either,” Yigol answered earnestly.
When they had gotten married, he saw Suri’s birthday on their marriage certificate. She was just slightly older than him.
Beyond the age factor, he never felt that Suri was more mature. At least in front of him, she was just a lovable young girl. Her cold exterior while interacting with others was just a facade.
Only in front of Yigol did Suri show her genuine self.
“Yes, while there are a lot of such relationships, a woman’s age can sometimes be a harsh reality. Women age faster than men. When a woman is older, your relationship might…”
Before Sherry Woods could finish her sentence, Suri interrupted her, “Mom, what are you saying?
Sherry Woods quickly shut her mouth.
Yigol still didn’t catch the discrepancy. He was focused on what he had to do to make his mother-in-law approve of him and was nervously at a loss of what to do.
Hearing Sherry Woods’ words, Yigol replied solemnly, “It’s not that women age faster than men. Those who look older are mostly weighed down by stresses. A truly pampered woman will always live like a princess.”
“Ms Woods, I can’t promise a lot of things. But one thing I can assure you is that as long as I’m alive, I’ll always put Suri first. I won’t let her suffer in any way. Naturally, she won’t have to carry a lot of stress, and time won’t leave its mark on her so soon.”
The moment Yigol started speaking, Suri went silent. This reminded Sherry Woods of how it didn’t bode well for a woman to become too attached.
Since Suri didn’t protest, Sherry Woods seized the opportunity to ask more questions and get to know Yigol better.
“How can you assure me of this?”
Yigol replied earnestly, “At home, I do the cooking. Suri enjoys the food I prepare. When she’s tired, I prepare a foot soak for her, just like you saw. When she’s at work, I tidy up the house. In short, I take care of her.”
“As for her, she’s free to do what she likes—whether it’s working or going out to have fun. My priority is her, both now and forever.”
“She doesn’t have to worry about everyday issues or money-related matters.”
“She’s my first love, and I’m hers. We both didn’t have any romantic experiences before each other. There’s no past to contend with. We both cherish each other, so we will be very harmony together.”
“About me, I come from a rural area. I am capable of enduring hardships and understand the bitterness of life. Also, my temperament is quite good. I won’t ever deliberately upset Suri. If she does get upset, I’ll always coax her, no matter what.”
“These are the things I can promise you. Everything I say, I will be able to fulfill.”
As for always treating her well, I guess you won’t believe me either. The answer to this question can only be revealed with time. Time reveals the true nature of a person. Time will witness everything.”
“So, I’ll say these things to you only once, during the marriage ceremony too, and then never again. If said too many times, my promises will lose their significance. I prefer proving my words through my actions.”
Having heard this, Suri was profoundly moved. She trusted Yigol. During their time together, if Yigol said he’d do something, he always delivered.
Throughout their relationship, Yigol handled most of the housework, he was rather good at it.. He never complained about life or her at all,
