Chapter 267: Btog 267 Lanterns Of The Oni’S Lanterns {Hozuki}
Chapter 267: Btog 267 Lanterns Of The Oni’S Lanterns {Hozuki}
“The food was pretty good. I’ve only ever eaten centipedes raw or deep-fried, so this stew was a new experience for me.”
“Is that so? But.. isn’t eating them raw a bit dangerous?”
“Oh, you see, I’m immune to most poisons.”
“O, oh, is that so….”
<I quit being human in the series.>
<The Woman Who Could Swallow a Blowfish>
<The Scary Girl lol>
“Chat should all try swallowing a blowfish, it will guarantee to kill you all. Please die.”
<Please don’t kill me.>
<Normally, you can’t even get it down your throat.>
<But, are you fine? >
<We know she is not a human.>
< I’d like to see you swallow a non-poisonous fish once.>
“Then let’s have a fish-swallowing contest on my birthday!”
“You’re becoming more and more of an absurdity.”
<Yes, we did it!>
<Wait a minute.>
<ROFL>
< I’m so sorry.>
While exchanging such idle conversation with A-chan and the viewers, we arrived at the South District, and it’s true that there is nothing but empty lots.
The player and NPCs always have lights on at night in their own homes. And it seems that the ones that are not lit up are the ‘ghost’ buildings.
And after taking a quick look at the many vacant lots in the residential area, it was clear that there were more than one or two ghost buildings.
“Hmmm, isn’t that a lot of empty space….?”
“According to a popular ghost house guide, an average of 150 ghost buildings will appear night.”
“That’s a big number of ghost buildings, isn’t it?
Every night, 150 houses appear on average. The NPCs, on the other hand, claim it’s a common occurrence that has been going on for hundreds of years. It wouldn’t be noticeable if it weren’t from the player’s point of view.
I knocked on the door of one of the haunted houses, but there was no response. It’s a European-style house, which appears to be the case with the majority of the ghost buildings in this game.
“The shrine-like thing I saw in the picture is…. oh, it’s that way.”
“Okay, let’s head there quickly.”
<I can’t see a thing.>
<Human detectors.>
< It’s even more accurate than the actual radar.>
<Trust our Sukuna.>
☆
“It’s here, but….”
“Oh, the lights are on.”
The shrine is a little smaller but still much more magnificent than other ghostly buildings.
And the lights are on. If we believe A-chan’s explanation earlier, then this is not a ghost building.
“What about the theory that it was originally built here?”
“I don’t know. We’ll just have to go with the hit-or-miss spirit. Anyway… hello, anybody home?”
“Hello, may I come in?”
We both knocked on the door and asked, but there was no answer.
“I wonder if it’s wrong to come in here without permission.”
“Won’t we be caught trespassing?”
“Oh, so you’re here at last.”
“Whoaaa!?”
When A-chan and I were discussing what to do, a voice suddenly called out to us from behind.
I wasn’t surprised because I knew there were other people there, but A-chan was startled.
I turned around, and there was a woman from the Oni tribe. She was a lady dressed in a Miko attire, with purple hair and an amazing horn.
“Welcome, the traveler with the key. What can I do for you?”
“Um, I’d like to go to the shrine at the end. Do you know how to get there?”
“Of course, I know how to get there. Please wait a moment.”
The woman said as she walked into the shrine as if it was something natural.
“It was That easy?”
“She said, [traveler with the key]. Do you have any key items?
“The key… is this hairpin, I think.”
The [Bronze Houzuki Hairpin], an accessory given to me by Shuten sometime ago, is the key to entering the Shrine of the End.
Though it feels like you only get the bare necessities for entering the shrine, and after explaining the situation to A-chan, the woman emerges from the shrine.
“Thank you for waiting. Please use this lantern.”
I received a large, onion-shaped lantern she was holding. It had a green flame and looked quite eerie.
In this world, an oni lantern (Suzuki) is a symbol to show that it is related to Shuten Douji, so I was sure that this lantern would lead us to the shrine of the end.
“If we use it in the forest of the end, that lantern will serve as a guidepost. The shrine of the end is in the space between the two worlds, so you cannot reach it without one. Since you have the key, I don’t think I need to explain further.”
“Thank you very much.”
“No need to thank me. For it is my role to show the way to the lost traveler, I wish you a good journey.”
The woman went back into the shrine without even asking my name, and at that moment, the shrine that should have been right in front of me disappeared like a puff of smoke.
All that remained was a vacant lot just like any other. I would say it was a daydream, but there was definitely a lantern left in my hand.
“Wow…”
“Could it really be a ghost ……?”
<What a speedy event.>
<She gave the necessary items and left.>
<Where was the flag that triggered the event?>
“Umm…, I got what I’m looking for, so that’s good!”
“It is, there’s no use thinking too hard about it.”
“However, it doesn’t seem to be a warp item, so we won’t be able to go to the Shrine of the End today anyway.”
And, moreover, I promised to eat dinner earlier, so I’m running out of time. It’s already past 7:00 p.m., so should I finish it tonight?
“Okay, I know it’s a little early, but I think I’ll leave the search for tomorrow. I’m going to spend a little more time at night tomorrow, but first lets go swimming in Trillia during the day and search for the Shrine of the End at night.”
“I can’t join you tomorrow because I have something to do.”
“I’ll ask Rin-chan to help me. I don’t have much of a problem going it alone too. But thanks because of your help, I was able to find it in no time.”
“Don’t mind it, it was my thanks for carrying me during the battle against the Moon Wolf.”
A-chan turned on her heel and began to walk away, looking slightly embarrassed.
Not that I mind, but I think it’s different for A-chan because she realizes she’s the weakest of the four. She might feel in debt or something.
“I hope we can meet again!”
“Okay! See you later!”
After saying this over her back, A-chan dashed off.
“So, I know it’s a little early, but I think I’ll call it a day.”
< I’ve just arrived.>
<I just got here.>
<Next time, do it at night.>
< Don’t kill a working man.>
<Good job :X .> { :X is emoticon}
< We’re still on for tomorrow, right?>
“I’m going to play longer tomorrow night as I said before. I may go to the abandoned city at the bottom of the lake during the day if I can raise enough skill level. I don’t know if Rin-chan will come, but I’ll ask her.”
<Rin-nana? Are we going to see Rinana!?>
<Only you can call Rinne that lightly.>
<I will bet she will be getting another death penalty.>
< I’m leaving work early tomorrow.>
< I’m looking forward to the collaboration.>
“Well, that’s all for today! I heard that they are doing a survey on social networking sites about my birthday event, so I would appreciate it if you could write down what you would like me to do and vote for it. I’ll do anything within the limits of my ability.”
<GJ>
<Otsu>
<goodjob>
<Good job!>
<I voted.>
<Nice!>
<Nice!>
<Thank you!>
<Thank you!>
<I just came here, and it was over.>

If you have the item that serves as the “key,” you can get the lanterns no matter whom you go to. However, you will not receive the “key” until you reach level 90 and change your job to [Oni no Miko]. So far, Sukuna is the only one who has become an [Oni no Miko], so no one has triggered the event.
