Chapter 49 - 49 Wound and Love (1)
At this moment, Lu Weixi was standing below the scaffolding with a safety helmet on. Upon hearing a noise, she instinctively looked up. As expected, she saw the screws on the side of the scaffolding loosen, and the planks and steel pipes fell straight down.
It happened too abruptly, she didn’t have time to dodge. Suddenly, a tall figure rushed towards her from the side, and just as the board was about to hit her, they fiercely embraced her and rolled aside.
The planks and steel pipes crashed down, causing dust to billow. People in the vicinity were stunned. Only after the dust had cleared did people rush over anxiously and ask, “Lu, are you okay?”
Xiaochen and Xiaoqian rushed over, as did others from the construction site, helping her and Zhao Zihao remove the planks and steel pipes from their bodies.
Upon seeing that Lu Weixi was covered in scrapes and dust, Xiaochen’s eyes filled with tears, “Lu, nothing better happen to you!” Xiaoqian also angrily questioned the person in charge of the construction site: “How do you handle things? Can’t you even check these?!”
“I’m okay.” Lu Weixi replied and brushed off the dust from her body. Scraped and bruised were inevitable, but thankfully, there were no major problems. However, she was not sure about how Zhao Zihao was. It was him who had thrown himself over to shield her from the impact of falling planks and pipes. “Dr. Zhao, how are you?”
“…I’m fine.” Zhao Zihao was covered in more dust and debris, but it looked like he wasn’t badly hurt. His left wrist seemed to be twisted though, and the joint was noticeably red and swollen.
At this moment, Lu Weixi disregarded any apprehensions and drew closer to him, “Dr. Zhao, perhaps we should go to the hospital. If you’re truly injured, that could be awful.”
Zhao Zihao looked at her and smiled, then nodded: “Okay, but you have to come too. Some minor fractures or internal bleeding might not be obvious at first. The wounds on your body need to be treated as well to prevent infections.”
“Sure,” Lu Weixi agreed immediately, looking back she issued instructions, “Check everything again. Try to identify any other potential dangers. Reinforce what needs reinforcing, repair whatever needs repairing. We can’t delay the project, but safety should always come first. I’ll be right back.”
Zhao Zihao stood aside, watching her skillfully delegate tasks. When she looked back at him, her smile was warm and reassuring, “Dr. Zhao, why don’t you ride with me? You’ve injured your hand and it will be inconvenient for you to drive. Besides, I was planning to visit the hospital and see my mom.”
Zhao Zihao responded with a nod and a smile, “Okay.”
At the hospital, they went through scans, had their wounds treated, and even received tetanus shots. Lu Weixi was fine, and Zhao Zihao had just twisted his wrist. After the nurse applied medication, rest was the only thing necessary.
When Lu Weixi tried to express her gratitude, he stopped her quickly, “Hey, stop thanking me. If you keep on going, I’ll have to ask you to take responsibility.”
Lu Weixi could only smile in response. Since they were at the hospital, she decided to visit her mother who had just been given medication and was currently resting. Zhao Zihao moved closer and reassured her, “Don’t worry. She has been doing alright lately, and we have been monitoring her.”
Lu Weixi responded with a simple “Hmm.” Zhao Zihao turned his head and noticed a black spot on her face, probably from the falling planks earlier. Looking at her face up close, he couldn’t help but reach out his hand….
