Chapter 457: 458 Awakening (3)
Qin Zhiyou and Lu Weixi stood outside the glass window of the intensive care unit, craning their necks for a glimpse of the situation inside.
Although Lu’s mother was conscious, Lu Weixi could not go see her right away. They had to wait for Zhao Zihao to conduct a meticulous examination.
Despite his many doubts about Zhao Zihao, at this moment, Qin Zhiyou genuinely hoped Zhao could fulfill his duty as a doctor and successfully treat Lu’s mother.
Lu Weixi was elated to look in from the outside and see her mother, who had been taken off the ventilator and could respond to Doctor Zhao.
For three whole days, Lu Weixi could hardly bear to recall how she had spent her time. From the initial shock to later despair, anger, and hope. Time had gradually worn away her expectations, making hope seem distant, leaving behind only stubborn determination.
But she had prepared herself for the possibility that her mother might remain comatose forever, or that her condition would rapidly worsen, even become critically ill—then soon being no more.
Waiting was most tormenting, especially this type of waiting that gave a glimmer of hope amidst despair.
But, when she saw her mother genuinely still alive in the monitoring room, she felt that all the waiting was worthwhile!
Qin Zhiyou felt the same. Lu’s mother equated to his marriage, his wife, and the happiness of his entire second half of life. If she woke up, it meant that Lu Weixi would not divorce him!
At present, Lu’s mother vital signs were steady and everything was recovering. But, cancer wasn’t something that could be cured with a single surgery. Cancer cells might still spread and metastasize. She would need to undergo chemotherapy and radiation therapy to stabilize her condition.
No matter what, the surgery was a success!
After Zhao Zihao and the nurse checked for a long time and finding no major issues with Lu’s mother, even if it was past visiting hours, he still let the nurse put sterile gowns on Lu Weixi and Qin Zhiyou, allowing them to visit the patient.
Lu Weixi had been waiting outside the intensive care unit for several days. She was extremely exhausted and had experienced anger, despair, and anticipation in the face of every circumstance.
But she had never cried.
Yet, when she entered the ward and held her mother’s hand, which was still slightly swollen and rough from the illness, bearing the marks of years, her tears instantly burst forth.
She had so many things she wanted to say but her throat went silent at every attempt. Every breath she took sent a rush of air to her throat, breaking her voice into fragments.
As she cried, Lu’s mother, too, held her daughter’s hand, wanting to squeeze it but lacking the strength due to her post-surgery weakness. She could only feebly hold her daughter’s hand. As if feeling her daughter’s determination, she lay there with tears streaming from the corners of her eyes.
Qin Zhiyou also followed, watching Lu Weixi grip her mother’s hand, both mother and daughter shedding tears in silence.
He didn’t have the nerve to grab the other hand of Lu’s mother, instead stood beside Lu Weixi, not daring to speak or move, afraid that he would disrupt the communication between mother and daughter.
After a long while, when Lu Weixi’s emotions finally calmed down and she turned her head to wipe away the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand, Qin Zhiyou silently stepped forward and handed her a tissue.
Without looking back, Lu Weixi just reached out and took the tissue from Qin Zhiyou.
