Chapter 174 - 135: Electric Ray, The Single-horned Orca’s Rescue Request
After exchanging for an Advanced Skill and completing the first three cultivation phases, Jack Clark did not go home but instead took the fast car back to the Hundred Mountain Town.
At this point, the sky was gradually darkening. There were many students returning to the small town streets, carrying weapons and possessing a residual bloody smell despite their earlier cleansing.
“Jack Clark, the second round of tasks have refreshed today. Why didn’t you participate?” On the road, a student carrying a combat knife enthusiastically greeted him.
This clean-up phase lasted half a month. The second round of task refresh was a re-survey of the surroundings, encompassing the range deep into the mountains using the detection equipment carried by professionals.
This second round’s tasks quantity and accuracy of information were slightly off. Many tasks noted that suspected mutated creatures were spotted in these areas.
Therefore, even if Jack Clark was not present in the morning, there was no real loss. He just missed out on taking two tasks.
However, seeing the other party’s enthusiasm, Jack Clark was naturally not aloof. He responded with a smile, “I went back to the school today, had some things to handle.”
“Then you’re quite at a loss. This morning there was a mutated beast horde task refresh. Elvis Raven and his group took it on together, earning several dozen contribution points.”
As he said this, a look of envy crossed this student’s face.
This student was a classmate from Class Four next door. Jack had a slight impression of him. The Elvis Raven he mentioned was also a Third Layer Heaven student who had returned from the trial.
He had joined forces with five or six others who had returned from the trials, a Second Layer Heaven student with battle armor, and had completed several high difficulty tasks this period.
Of course, all the contribution points they jointly earned did not amount to what Jack alone earned.
At this point, another classmate from the back called, “Brother Chen, take me along to hunt Level 3 Mutant Beasts.”
Jack Clark chuckled and nodded, “Sure, once we kill the unique beast, you can help carry the corpse down the mountain. It would make it much easier for me.”
“Ha… Brother Chen, forget what I just said.” The late period First Layer Heaven classmate immediately gave a sheepish laugh.
With his basic arm strength of 300kg, carrying a three-ton Level 3 Mutant Beast corpse was akin to courting death.
On the way back to the temporary dormitory, many classmates greeted Jack zealously. This included students from the neighboring second-tier and third-tier martial high schools.
The reason was simple. In the past few days, during the return trip from hunting Mutated Beasts, Jack would usually help out if he encountered a fight and saw the classmates at a disadvantage.
With his strength, he could casually pick up a 100kg stone from the ground and threw it over, killing an ordinary mutated beast.
Although he only intervened a few times, word quickly spread among the students about Jack’s formidable strength, humility, and strong sense of justice.
As a result, he had a high popularity among these classmates recently.
In the cafeteria, Freya Louise looked across at Jack Clark, whose aura felt increasingly oppressive, and asked in surprise, “You went back to exchange for the Cultivation Methods this morning, and you’ve completed the cultivation already?”
“Yes, I cultivated for half a day in the Cultivation Room, and the nature of the True Strength has been transformed.” Jack Clark nodded.
“Well, you are the genius who cultivated the Dragon Elephant Power and brought out the True Martial Divine Rhyme.”
Freya grinned before changing the subject, “You should be preparing for the breakthrough to the Fourth Layer Heaven next, right? Do you have enough Contribution Points?”
Jack Clark gave her a glance, “Why, are you planning to lend me some ‘money’?”
The girl nodded casually, “Sure. 1 still have sixty Contribution Points unused. You can use them. You can repay me when you go to the Alien Beast Battlefield for trials.”
Because True Strength needed to be kept ’empty’, her choices of resources were much narrower. Plus, her aunt provided all her ammunition and other supplies.
Therefore, aside from exchanging for resources that would speed up the absorption and stimulation of her True Strength, she didn’t depend on Contribution as significantly as Jack did.
In reality though, this dependence was just to speed up their progress.
Otherwise, Jack could still steadily cultivate at his own pace. However, doing so would not result in the dramatic improvement in strength he had achieved so far; he would be at least several times, perhaps even ten times slower.
“Let’s see in a few days. If 1 am short of Contribution Points then, 1 will borrow some from you.” Jack chuckled. He neither accepted immediately nor declined.
If the tasks in the next few days were all Level 1, bringing in little Contribution, he might have to borrow from her in order to exchange for dragon essence blood.
Fortunately, the situation was not that dire.
The next day, Jack landed three Level 2 tasks. However, these tasks were spread relatively far apart, deep into the mountains several tens of kilometers, and thus, the day swiftly passed.
In the ensuing days, while completing his tasks, Jack was also searching in the Long White Mountain for the traces of the electric ray, the double-headed mutated ice python, and the Earth Black Bear.
The three Mutated Beasts each corresponded with lightning, ice, and gravity.
The abilities of the double-headed mutated ice python and the Earth Black Bear were kept as backup, in case he failed to find the electric ray before the Sword Armor Flame Beast underwent its fourth evolution.
By then, the Sword Armor Flame Beast, with two talents of ice and flame, or flame and gravity, would still be very strong.
As for powerful abilities related to space, these had not been discovered among the known low-level exotic beasts, and if there were, they would be categorised as Senior or high-order beings.
Just like the double-headed sea python they had encountered before, their sluggish talent could also be classified as a subset of time.
Deep into the Long Hundred Mountain, 150 kilometers away, in the mountain stream just over ten meters wide, the small river suddenly started boiling. In the blink of an eye, the bodies of numerous fishes of various sizes floated up.
A six meter long, barrel-thick eel, covered in black scales, was coiling in the raging river surface. On its body, blue arcs of electricity were dancing.
It wasn’t until the river was filled with dead fish that the electric eel slowly stopped, its ferocious mouth biting into a 0.5 meter long fish for its meal..
