Chapter 106: The Law Powers: Moon, Divine Office Activated??
[Description: You can earn quest points by collecting various precious items in The Netherworld (gear of second class level or higher, platinum quality or above, skills of purple quality or above...), and by defeating powerful units in The Netherworld.]
[Reward: Points will be converted into equivalent the Dark Moon Alliance reputation and contribution at a 1:10 ratio.]
"Hmm? Not bad." Sterl murmured as he read the system message. Suddenly, he realized something crucial: although deities could somewhat deceive the [Transcendence] system, they couldn't fully go against it.
At this moment, as long as players who hadn't quit the quest were in The Netherworld, collecting resources and defeating strong enemies, the Dark Moon Alliance would be forced to pay out additional rewards.
Sterl felt elated. With his combat prowess, he was sure to rake in a ton of extra contribution points!
However, Sterl had no intention of exploring the outside world just yet.
He still had the [Lunar Restriction] on him! This thing didn't just prevent him from using the gains he acquired in the other world. It also recorded every item he dropped.
Sterl suspected that with the [Lunar Restriction] on him, the Dark Moon Alliance could monitor his every move.
Thus, Sterl decided to stay put on the hillside, finding a spot to settle down.
He didn't even bother to train his arcane skills. Instead, he pulled out a few novels from his backpack and began to read.
...
One day later.
"Is this author out of their mind?" Sterl grumbled, holding a book titled "The Great Human God, Welter," his face twisted in displeasure.
"Why would the protagonist go to such lengths to help a race that's always treated him poorly, even at the cost of his own foundation?"
"And what kind of nonsense is this? The author spends so much time describing how beautiful and powerful a demigod mermaid is, but there's no romantic subplot with the protagonist at all?"
"What kind of ridiculous ending is this? In the end, the thief, who barely had any screen time, seizes the final opportunity and ascends to godhood. And then you tell me she was disguised as a man all along. Was there any foreshadowing for this earlier on?"
"Utter garbage! Pure, unadulterated garbage!"
"And that ending, what kind of lunatic wrote this? The protagonist enters a forbidden area and just disappears?!"
"We endured all that frustration for this kind of ending?!"
He muttered, fuming, as he tossed the book back into his backpack. At that moment, Sterl noticed that his ability to allocate points had been restored.
He quickly pushed the novel's contents out of his mind and opened his status panel.
Sure enough, there was a plus sign next to the [Lunar Restriction] buff.
Without hesitation, Sterl chose to allocate points.
In the next second, his expression changed dramatically.
Sterl had made a grave error!
The divine power that constituted the [Lunar Restriction], which had originally been stable within him, began to surge wildly once activated by the point allocation.
Even though Sterl reacted quickly and activated his divine descent effect, his flesh still tore apart, leaving him gravely injured.
Fortunately, the amount of divine power was still too small to be lethal.
The pain came swiftly and left just as quickly. Sterl had barely collapsed to the ground, not even having time to scream, before it was all over.
He felt a mysterious force slowly surging within him, finally settling in the center of his forehead.
The next second, the [Transcendence] system's notification chimed.
[You have gained the buff [Third Eye of the Moon].]
[The buff [Third Eye of the Moon] has been consumed.]
With these two notifications, Sterl felt a cool sensation at his forehead shatter and disperse throughout his body.
Then, another set of prompts appeared—
[Congratulations, you have obtained 0.01 units of Divine Power.]
[Congratulations, you have obtained a Fragment of Laws: Moon.]
[Detected: Player currently possesses the bloodline: Primordial Human. Your body can accommodate 10 units of Laws' power. Do you wish to absorb the Laws' power: Moon? To harness the power of this law, one unit of Divine Essence Fragments is required.]
"Yes!" Sterl exclaimed. Although he wasn't sure what had just happened, the Laws' power, which seemed related to demigods, was something he definitely wanted to absorb.
As soon as he confirmed, he felt an overwhelmingly dominant force descend upon his mental realm. It carried an aura so grand that Sterl could not resist. The force directly constructed a bright moon in his otherworldly sea of consciousness.
A massive stream of information flooded into Sterl's mind, leaving him momentarily dazed.
"So this is the power of a demigod's domain…" Sterl muttered to himself. He remained in meditation for almost four to five hours before slowly opening his eyes.
His status panel now displayed one... no, two new sections.
[Laws Panel]
[Current Divine Essence Fragments Slot: 1/10]
[Mastered Laws—
[Moon]
[Effect: You now have the ability to control the power of the moon.]
[Related Platinum Skills: None]
[Growth Status of Laws' Power: 1/100]]
The panel didn't show much, only indicating that Sterl had mastered the Laws of [Moon], along with a very abstract description, and a mention of [Platinum Quality Skills].
Gradually, Sterl's initial excitement began to wane.
He turned his palm over, and a silver-white energy slowly manifested.
As always, the power Gloria had infused into the [Lunar Eye] was a very weak trace. The Law Powers was only a single strand, and the divine power was merely 0.01 units.
Sterl, through his point allocation ability, had only managed to turn the [Lunar Restriction] into something he could utilize.
Now, with his Primordial Human bloodline, Sterl indeed managed to wield the Law Powers with the body of an ordinary practitioner, but the [Moon] power was too scarce!
Even with the Law Powers, Sterl could only add the following curse effects to his skills through the [Moon]—
[The hit unit's level decreases by ten for two days.]
[Any one of the opponent's resistances is reduced to zero for 20 minutes.]
Additionally, he could perform some minor "tricks" using the Laws of the Moon.
[All nearby enemies fall into a slowed state, reducing their movement speed by 100% for one minute.]
[You can track any enemy you have attacked within the last three days by expending the Moon's power, guaranteed to work on units below the deity level.]
"Holy crap, this is seriously overpowered!" Sterl exclaimed as he sensed the abilities of the [Moon].
Although he has only the faintest trace within him, allowing him to attach it to a single skill or use the [Moon]'s special effect just once, after which it will take a long time for the[Moon] to slowly recover.
But each aspect of the Law Powers is overwhelmingly powerful!
For anyone, especially high-tier players or NPCs, dropping ten levels would drastically weaken their strength. Reducing an opponent's resistance to zero would at least double the final output of Sterl's attacks.
The extremely cheeky slowing field and the relentless tracking effect were also incredibly practical.
Sterl clearly felt that these four abilities were mainly limited by the small "quantity" of his Laws' power and his own low level.
As his [Moon] power accumulated and Sterl advanced to second class, third class, legend, and demigod, the brilliance of the Laws' power would shine even brighter.
After marveling at the exaggeration of his new abilities for a moment, Sterl turned his attention to the other unlocked panel.
This one seemed rather unremarkable—
[Divine Office Panel]
[Current Divine Office: Human]
[Remaining Divine Power: 0.01 units]
When it came to the domain of deities, the [Transcendence] system provided even sparser explanations on the panel.
However, Sterl intuitively sensed that 0.01 units of Divine Power were enough to activate the Divine Office: Human, for a brief moment.
Moreover, he inexplicably understood that the Divine Office, Divine Power, and Laws formed a trinity, and at the moment they were simultaneously activated, no matter how insignificant Sterl himself might be, he would possess all the elements of a deity.
In other words, by spending the 0.01 units of Divine Power granted by Gloria, Sterl could momentarily ascend to godhood!
"I just wonder how powerful that state would be." he couldn't help but fantasize excitedly. Unfortunately, Sterl didn't get a chance to try out his godly ascension.
Unlike the Law Powers, where the Primordial Human bloodline had transformed Sterl's body, allowing [Moon] to integrate into him and become a part of him that could recover after being used up, the Divine Power was purely a result of the point allocation system forcefully retaining it.
Sterl himself had no capacity to harbor Divine Power. He was merely hiding 0.01 units of Divine Power thanks to his cheat ability.
Once he used up the Divine Power, it would be gone forever.
However, Sterl had no intention of using it lightly. He had a hunch that this would be his strongest trump card.
As he pondered, the ground shook violently the next second.
The once peaceful hillside scene shattered instantly as the earth cracked open, revealing a terrifying chasm from which a massive aura began to emerge.
"What's happening?" Sterl was stunned for a few seconds. Then he noticed, in the distance, a small group of about a dozen players staring at the ground in horror, as if they had seen a ghost.
