Chapter 254:167 Return to the Goblin Dungeon 2
Five minutes later, the corps of Holy Light Knights, made up of three hundred-man teams, had been utterly defeated. Two hundred had died, a few dozen had fled, and the remaining three team leaders-along with twenty or so survivors—had been sent to the Bone Prison.
The price Dean McKenzie had to pay was a reduction of his perfect quality skeleton soldiers from 53 to just 18. However, with just a snap of his fingers, the 35 skeletons that had fallen stood up again.
But even so, Dean McKenzie had to admit that the Church of Holy Light’s members had a strong inhibitory effect on his army.
It must be known that after summoning his skeletons, he caught them completely off guard.
Three teams, two-interrupted team leaders were severely injured on the spot, and nearly a third of the 300 soldiers were also heavily injured.
Even so, the opponent’s counterattack still took out Dean McKenzie’s 35 perfect quality skeletons.
In the end it was Old Two who dealt the final blow with the Bone Eruption causing the collapse of the last team leader. Otherwise, Dean McKenzie’s losses might have been even greater.
Nevertheless, Dean McKenzie had ultimately managed to take down three teams of Holy Light Knights.
After achieving this victory, without uttering a word, Dean McKenzie turned and left.
No matter what, he first needed to get out of range of the Church of Holy Light’s authority and stop the Holy Light on his forehead.
The pulsing Holy Light gave Dean McKenzie a throbbing headache.
More importantly, under that Holy Light, Dean found himself filled with intense anxiety. He had a hunch that the longer he stayed on the Church’s territory, the more dangerous his situation would become.
Therefore, Dean chose a direction and broke through their lines.
He was familiar with the area around Pink City, so he ascended into the sky and headed towards a forest he remembered being there. After rushing several dozens of miles, the Holy Light on Dean’s forehead gradually went out.
But Dean wasn’t so careless to let his guard down.
He flew several dozens of miles further before he stopped and summoned hundreds of ordinary skeletons. He directed them to spread out and attack in all directions, while Dean himself headed towards the direction of the Goblin Tribe which he remembered.
While Dean was toiling away, part of his mind was focused on studying the system prompt that appeared after logging into the instance.
Through studying the system prompt, Dean gained a clear understanding of his situation.
If he wanted to clear this instance, he had to complete at least one of the first four tasks.
The second one was impossible, as Dean would never kneel to serve as a dog for the Church of Holy Light!
The third one was also somewhat difficult for Dean. Where was he supposed to find a Pighead Clan to rebuild Pink City?
He knew how to destroy, but not rebuild; the same applied to Old Six. From demolishing houses, so many materials had piled up into small mountains that they could barely build the Bone Tomb and Bone Prison.
At this rate, wouldn’t it take an eternity to develop a city with Old Six’s efficiency?
The first task, which was to destroy three Holy Light Churches, was something Dean was more than willing to do. But his intuition warned him that the Church of Holy Light was not that simple.
If he had to forge ahead just because, he felt it would be quite risky.
Therefore, after much contemplation, Dean decided to first choose the task “Rise of the Goblins”.
He hoped he could get through this stage.
Best case scenario, he would unlock the “Reward Calculation Authority” through this task. With this authority, Dean would have much more confidence when he went back to take on the first task. If he really couldn’t win, he could always run away!
Also, Dean has been bothered by the ridiculous name of this scenario for a while. It clearly says “Rise of the Goblins,” but there’s not a single hint of goblins in the whole scenario. Dean felt it necessary – no, it was time – to get back to the theme of this scenario.
But before I return to the goblins, I need to deal with those guys!” While saying this, Dean found a place to stop, opened the Gate of Bone, and entered the Land of Bone.
To be precise, he entered the Bone Prison inside the Land of Bone.
The reason Dean specially left the group of Holy Light Knights behind wasn’t to use them to strengthen his skills, but rather to extract information about the Holy Light Assembly from them.
As for why he didn’t bring them to the Goblin Tribe for interrogation, it was mainly because the Church of Holy Light had too many strange and unknown tactics.
Last time Dean merely encountered Kabba Raven, he was marked by the Holy Light Mark.
God knows whether these Holy Light Knights have any marks on them, it’s probably best to deal with them outside first, to avoid inadvertently drawing the attention of the Church of Holy Light to the Goblin Tribe, which could lead to trouble.
Once Dean McKenzie entered the Bone Prison, he began by questioning a few of the Holy Light Knights.
The result was far from ideal!
This band of Holy Light Knights was incredibly resolute. No matter how Dean interrogated, tortured them, they never uttered a word.
Even when Old Eight made his move, flaying them alive one by one, they didn’t so much as frown. Their astonishing resolve impressed even Dean, their adversary.
It wasn’t until Dean used his Appraisal Skill on them that he realized why these knights were so tight-lipped.
It wasn’t due to their perseverance, they simply didn’t have any will of their own.
These knights had been raised by the Holy Light Assembly since their childhood, and brainwashed so that their minds were filled with only one belief: to dedicate their lives to the Holy Light.
Their will only begins to alter once they achieve the Six-turn.
So, the ones whom Dean initially avoided interrogating, thinking they’d be the toughest nuts to crack, were actually the easiest prey.
Dean then turned to the three Six-turn Team Leaders for questioning.
The team leaders began rather obstinate. However, after Old Eight flayed one of them alive, the two remaining ones immediately complied.
Dean then separated them.
He told them that only one of them could survive. The one who shared more information would live, while the one who shared less would die!
After a moment of silence, both team leaders began spilling information, racing each other to talk.
Within two hours, Dean had obtained two pieces of the information he wanted.
Through these two pieces of information, Dean, who had visited this copy five times, had his first basic understanding of its world background.
Firstly, their location was known as the Abandoned Land, formed hundreds of years ago by the Church of Holy Light as a place to settle non-human races.
The human world outside of the Abandoned Land was known as the Andia Kingdom. Of course, that was in the past, as the Andia Kingdom had now been transformed into the Holy Light Theocracy.
Five years ago, the Pope of the Holy Light broke through the 8-turn. The
Church then began aggressively expanding, annexing the Andia Kingdom within only two years and rebranding the entire human world as the Holy Light Theocracy.
The Holy Light Theocracy currently covered an area of three million square kilometers with 1,800 churches and tens of millions of followers!
Dean was left with goosebumps upon learning this.
He realized the magnitude of the beast he was up against.
Apart from this basic information,
the person Dean was most interested in was undoubtedly Kabba Raven.
Through the two team leaders, Dean learned that Kabba Raven was by far the most promising upstart in the Holy Light Assembly in recent years.
He solved the Wraith Scourge incident in Fern City, saving 200,000 residents.
He also found a fragment of the blasphemous heart of the Holy Light Church earning tremendous credit. As of a few months ago, he had been allowed entrance to the Holy Land of the Church of Holy Light. Unless unexpected he will return from the Holy Land in three months.
At that point, there will be a dramatic change in his strength and status.
It is said that the Pope of the Holy Light Church publicly promised that if Kabba Raven passed the Holy Light Baptism and raised his template to the Extraordinary Template, he would become one of the Saints of the Holy Light Church, earning the status of a Substitute Pope!
Upon reading this information, Dean’s face darkened ominously.
After all, nothing was more unsettling than hearing that an enemy was living a carefree and prosperous life!
