Chapter 122: 112 The Veteran’s Experience Points +1 (Seeking monthly tickets, recommendations, and subscriptions)_1
As they entered the conference building, an electronic voice came through.
Brother Bi explained beside them, “This is Xing Tian.”
Pei Jinye looked around in surprise.
“Meeting room for Group Two is in room 301. Please follow the green lights to the meeting room,” Xing Tian instructed.
“Let’s go,” Brother Bi was used to all of this.
But it’s Pei Jinye who was amazed by this kind of high-tech intelligence brain, something he had never had access to before.
The more it was like this.
The more cautious and careful Pei Jinye became.
Fearing that something would be discovered.
The expected welcoming ceremony for Pei Jinye did not occur. When Brother Bi brought him to the meeting room, almost everyone had already dispersed.
A long-haired man with glasses noticed Brother Bi, glanced up at Pei Jinye without much interest, then lowered his head and continued to organize materials, “You’re here?”
Brother Bi smiled and asked, “Where’s the team leader?”
“A big shot came from above suddenly, and the team leader was called over,” the man with glasses suddenly handed over a form from among the documents.
“What’s this?” Brother Bi was stunned. “A new mission?”
“What else?” the man with glasses said irritably, then glanced at Pei Jinye and told Brother Bi, “You two just handle it. That’s what the team leader meant. There was a suspected ability fluctuation on Northern Ring Road last night. The local Night Patrol Department received no emergency calls. Could you go take a look and see what’s going on?”
Brother Bi nodded, “Understood.”
After the man with glasses finished organizing his materials, he suddenly smiled at Pei Jinye, “New guy, good luck.”
With that, he walked away.
“No worries, don’t be nervous,” Brother Bi saw that Pei Jinye was silent, thinking he was nervous, and laughed while gesturing to the insignia in his hand, “This is very common for our tasks. It’s a good chance for me to pass on some experience to you.”
Pei Jinye, however, had no particular thoughts; he was already well accustomed to life and death.
What’s more.
All of those Transcendents he had Devoured were experienced and savvy.
“Thanks, Brother Bi,” Pei Jinye spoke.
“Don’t overthink it. In the future, we’ll be working together. The more you know, the more security I’ll have,” Brother Bi said without concern.
He didn’t mind being assigned a new recruit at all. He had encountered a good teacher back in the day, which is why he had survived time and again.
Although, others were not too keen on taking on new recruits…
“What do we do now?”
“First we eat. Even the most urgent task comes after filling your stomach,” Brother Bi said as if it were the most natural thing, patting his belly.
Pei Jinye was momentarily stunned.
Suddenly, he found Brother Bi quite interesting.
Cafeteria.
“Here, we get a food allowance of 1500 per month, so it’s no problem for you to spend fifty a day. But since you just got here, you don’t have your meal card yet. Use mine for now,” Brother Bi used his meal card for Pei Jinye, and seeing his modest meal, couldn’t help but say, “Is that enough? Want some more?”
“No need, Brother Bi. I ate a lot this morning,” Pei Jinye said with a smile.
Brother Bi waved it off unconcernedly, picked up his tray, and led Pei Jinye to a corner to sit down, then occasionally lifted his head to look around. Suddenly, his eyes lit up.
Pei Jinye, not understanding, turned to look and saw a group of young and beautiful figures coming together.
“They’re girls from the electronics group. Not bad-looking, right?” Brother Bi gazed at them with lingering fondness.
“They are nice.” Pei Jinye withdrew his gaze with a strange look on his face.
Brother Bi seemed to consider admiring the girls a rare pleasure.
“We meet again.”
Gu Wutong suddenly sat down next to them with a tray, blocking Brother Bi’s line of sight. The senior then looked forward, only to suddenly hear someone say, “I like the third one. My mom says that kind of woman can definitely bear sons.”
“Me too, the fifth one isn’t bad either, a pity she’s a bit small,” Brother Bi remarked before he realized Gu Wutong was the one speaking. He quickly shut his mouth and looked over in surprise, “Why are you here again?”
“I’m here to eat,” Gu Wutong mumbled through a mouthful of rice.
Brother Bi’s mouth twitched.
Which new recruit dared to wander around the base like it was a supermarket?
“Spar with me this afternoon?” Gu Wutong ignored Brother Bi’s disapproving look, turning his head to Pei Jinye.
Pei Jinye shook his head, “I have a mission this afternoon.”
“A mission?” Gu Wutong was startled, “Man, you’re starting missions so soon? Isn’t the newbie protection period way too short?”
As he spoke, he looked at Brother Bi, “Are you guys in Group Two even human? Assigning missions to someone who just arrived?”
Brother Bi, looking exasperated, said, “Do you think everyone’s like you, acting like a lord all day?”
“Who’s been slacking off? There’s supposed to be a newbie protection period,” Gu Wutong gestured to Pei Jinye, “Go make a complaint. Those guys are definitely up to no good.”
Before Pei Jinye could reply, Brother Bi interjected, “Mr. Gu, are you looking for trouble? Does Pei Jinye need your approval for what he does? You might as well just become our Group Two leader.”
Gu Wutong curled his lip, “Isn’t your Group Two leader Xie Zuxin? It’s not like I’ve never dealt with him.”
Brother Bi ignored him and turned to Pei Jinye, “Don’t listen to his nonsense. It’s a routine mission planned to get you familiar with the operations. You’re different from certain people. Some just come here to put on airs, but if you have the right attitude, you can still learn a lot of good stuff.”
Gu Wutong pursed his lips and stayed silent.
Brother Bi was too lazy to bother with him, seemingly thirsty, he got up to get some soup from a nearby service window.
It was then that Gu Wutong spoke softly to Pei Jinye, “Brother, be cautious when dealing with Xie Zuxin. He’s notoriously two-faced. You never know when he might take a bite out of you.”
Pei Jinye scooped up a spoonful of mixed rice and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully as he looked at Gu Wutong and asked leisurely, “What are you trying to say?”
Gu Wutong shook his head, “Wherever there are people, there’s a society of its own, brother. Take care of yourself. If you can’t mingle with the second team anymore, come find me in the seventh team. Also, make sure to have a fight with me, haha. I think you’re pretty strong.”
Saying this, he carried his tray over and sat down at a table thirty meters away. The burly men sitting beside the table seemed to be talking about something, clearly very familiar with each other.
Pei Jinye was pensive.
Joining the Investigation Team was indeed Mr. Han’s arrangement.
As for which team he was assigned to, it seemed to be based on personnel shortages and was arranged by Xing Tian.
“Where’s that kid?”
Brother Bi came over with two bowls of vegetable soup, giving one to Pei Jinye and then glancing around.
“He seems to have gone to find his teammates,” Pei Jinye said uncertainly.
After all, he only had a little information about Gu Wutong, which he had previously gotten from Principal Wang.
But as for what kind of person he was…
From his current interactions, he indeed seemed a bit of a madcap with a strong individualistic streak.
And somewhat of a combat fanatic, otherwise, he wouldn’t be looking for fights with him every day.
“I wonder who invited this headache into our ranks,” Brother Bi muttered, shaking his head as he sat down.
“Do you know him, Brother Bi?” Pei Jinye looked over without betraying any emotion.
“Not really, just a little,” Brother Bi sipped his soup and said, “We once executed a cross-district investigation together. That kid was in the Military Department back then, quite the unhinged little monster.”
It seemed that mentioning that mission made Brother Bi more talkative.
Of course, he was usually not short of words.
Pei Jinye paused for a moment.
Talkative…
Suddenly, he thought of someone.
The chatterbox with the silver mask.
“Ai…”
Pei Jinye’s sigh made Brother Bi think he was also recalling the tense situation of that time, and he agreed, “The situation was so critical back then, nobody knew what was going on in the underground reservoir, and that kid just jumped right in… When he came back up, he was dragging a thirty-meter-long python. Tell me, is that something a normal person would do?”
Pei Jinye was startled, “His combat power is that strong?”
“He’s pretty strong,” Brother Bi nodded, “Being raised by the Military Department from a young age, how could he be an ordinary person?”
Pei Jinye looked up.
Thirty meters away, Gu Wutong looked back, revealing a set of harmless, white teeth.
At two-thirty in the afternoon.
Brother Bi sat in the car, watching Pei Jinye carry a briefcase and nodding, “There shouldn’t be any problems. When we get there, I’ll ask the questions, and you’ll take notes.”
He handed over a specially made tablet.
“It can be placed inside the briefcase. Once we’ve compiled the data, we report to Xing Tian.”
“That’s it?” Pei Jinye was surprised.
“That’s why I said it’s a small task,” smiled Brother Bi. “The two of us will do a round, make records for archiving, and send them up. If we really run into something, just call for reinforcements. Don’t be foolish and charge in. If you lose your life, you really lose everything.”
“Brother Bi, you live with so much clarity.”
“Are you making fun of me?”
“Not at all,” Pei Jinye shook his head.
Brother Bi sighed, a hint of melancholy in his voice, “These were words my master told me.”
“Where is he now?” Pei Jinye looked over, puzzled.
Brother Bi shook his head, “He passed away just two months ago. Sigh, he always spoke of caution, but the one time he decided to be bold, he lost his life. That’s why I said he was foolish. He always urged me not to be reckless, and now… Let’s not talk about him. Just remember what I said, don’t act impulsively. I’m quite afraid of dying, and I won’t dare to save you when the time comes.”
Pei Jinye nodded.
Whether the other was speaking truthfully didn’t matter. However, to have said this much was already considerate.
“We’re here; you can start recording,” Brother Bi got out of the car and motioned for Pei Jinye to follow.
They were currently at the scene of the incident on Northern Ring Road. The area was rather desolate with a cluster of abandoned unfinished buildings nearby. Not far off, there was a deserted amusement park.
Brother Bi held an electronic device in his hand, displaying various figures.
Pei Jinye took a curious glance.
Brother Bi gestured, “The red numbers represent Extraordinary Magnetic Field Strength. If it’s over 10, it indicates a problem. Right now, it’s at 6.8, which means the problem isn’t significant. It’s possible that someone used their Transcendent abilities here. Make a note of that.”
Pei Jinye recorded the relevant content on the tablet.
Brother Bi continued to explain, “These two black figures, the left signifies air humidity, the right represents the trace Elements in the air… Air humidity is normal, trace Elements a bit high, but also within manageable levels… Damn!”
Brother Bi suddenly cursed under his breath.
Pei Jinye followed his gaze.
There was a bloody palm print on the wall.
Rustling sounds came from the corner.
Suddenly, a black dog burst out, and what it carried in its mouth caused both Pei Jinye and Brother Bi’s faces to change color.
Because it was a human severed hand!
