Chapter 269: The Berserk Gyarados

Yuga waved his hand and replied, "It's nothing, I had trouble sleeping last night."

Aru nodded, saying, "Maybe it's because you're not used to the new environment."

At noon, Professor Birch, who hadn't appeared until now, showed up in front of Yuga with disheveled hair. He placed two test tubes containing red and blue potions in front of Yuga and said, "I've come up with a solution to the Magikarp issue, but it comes with some risks."

"Risks?" Yuga asked.

Professor Birch replied, "Yes. The genes in Magikarp's body have solidified significantly. To trigger its evolution, we have to reactivate these stabilized genes. However, this process carries risks. Furthermore, there's the issue of the Pokémon virus in its bloodstream."

"No one has ever considered eradicating the Pokémon virus within a Pokémon before, as it's generally beneficial. However, for Magikarp to evolve, we must remove the virus from its blood, which also poses risks."

Pointing at the two test tubes in front of him, Yuga asked, "Are these potions meant to activate Magikarp's genes and clear the Pokémon virus?"

Professor Birch nodded and replied, "That's correct."

Yuga lowered his head in thought for a moment and said to Professor Birch, "I'd like to discuss this with Magikarp before making a decision. Is that okay?"

Smiling, Professor Birch said, "Of course, it's your right." He then handed Magikarp's Poké Ball to Yuga.

To facilitate Professor Birch's research, Magikarp had been kept at his lab since yesterday.

Yuga arrived at the riverbank in the yard, released Magikarp from its Poké Ball, and said, "Magikarp, we've found a way for you to evolve."

Upon hearing Yuga's words, Magikarp happily flipped over in the water.

Yuga continued, "However, this method is very dangerous, and there's a possibility that you might lose your life because of it."

Magikarp stopped swimming and remained still in the water, its sad, pale eyes fixated on Yuga.

Yuga went on, "I will respect your choice, whether you choose to evolve or remain as you are. I won't abandon you."

After Yuga finished speaking, Magikarp leaped out of the water with a single bound, then jumped again after hitting the water's surface. It repeated this action over and over.

Yuga couldn't quite understand what Magikarp was trying to convey, so he said, "Magikarp, if you agree to evolve, jump one more time. If you don't want to evolve, then calm down."

This time, Magikarp jumped even higher than before, clearly expressing its decision.

Understanding Magikarp's intention, Yuga returned to Professor Birch and told him, "Magikarp has agreed to evolve."

Professor Birch nodded and took out the two vials again.

Yuga took the vials and asked, "How should these be used?"

Professor Birch replied, "The blue one is for clearing the Pokémon virus. Give it to Magikarp first. The red one is for activating its genes, to be administered afterward. However, when Magikarp takes the blue potion, it will experience extreme pain. You must ensure it endures."

Yuga nodded in understanding and went to the riverbank.

Professor Birch, somewhat concerned, followed him.

Upon reaching the riverbank, Yuga called Magikarp, which had been waiting there, and said, "Magikarp, drink this."

Magikarp obediently opened its mouth, allowing Yuga to pour the blue potion into it.

After Magikarp consumed the red potion, Yuga noticed it remained remarkably calm, showing none of the dangerous symptoms Professor Birch had mentioned. He breathed a sigh of relief.

However, Professor Birch cautioned, "The crucial part is yet to come. Stay vigilant."

Yuga nodded, removed the stopper from the red potion, and poured it into Magikarp's mouth.

Soon after drinking the red potion, Magikarp started trembling violently, and then it thrashed about in the water. Yuga could almost feel its agony.

Suddenly, the light of evolution radiated from Magikarp. Its body elongated and grew larger, creating a commotion in the small river.

The other Pokémon that had originally inhabited the river scattered in fear, refusing to stay in the water.

When the evolution light dissipated, the massive form of Magikarp, now a Gyarados, emerged. This creature, over ten meters long, occupied a significant portion of the river.

Just as Yuga was delighted that Magikarp had finally evolved into Gyarados, he realized that the newly evolved Pokémon was staring at him with crimson eyes.

"Oh no, Yuga, run! Gyarados has lost its sanity due to the pain," Professor Birch suddenly shouted.

However, Yuga was too close to Gyarados, and it was too late to escape. He watched in horror as Gyarados opened its mouth and unleashed a Hydro Pump towards him.

Yuga quickly released Vivillon, commanding it to use Protect to block Gyarados's Hydro Pump attack. Then, he swiftly retreated.

The berserk Gyarados didn't fixate on Yuga. Instead, it swung its head and sprayed Hydro Pump in all directions, causing destruction everywhere it reached.

The Pokémon that had been casually playing in the yard were terrified, turning the entire area into chaos.

Back with Vivillon near Professor Birch, Yuga asked anxiously, "Professor, is there any problem with Gyarados behaving this way?"

Frowning, Professor Birch replied, "Since the evolution was successful, there shouldn't be any problems now. It probably lost its sanity due to the intense pain during evolution. It should regain its senses once it's exhausted."

Yuga inquired, "So, are we just going to watch it rampage like this?"

Looking at his devastated yard, Professor Birch sighed and said, "Unfortunately, that seems to be our only option."

Yuga watched the out-of-control Gyarados, still feeling worried. In just a short while, the water in the river had reduced by half, a testament to Gyarados's ferocity.

Fortunately, the Pokémon in the river had fled early; otherwise, they might have met a grim fate by now.

After some time, Gyarados unleashed another Hydro Pump, knocking down a large number of trees, before finally collapsing by the river, utterly exhausted and lying quietly.

Seeing this, Yuga hurried over to check on Gyarados's condition.
