Chapter 692 Four Pillars: A Rocky Road

Chapter 692 Four Pillars: A Rocky Road

Understanding that it wouldn\'t be long until another memory was shown before him, Valyr returned himself to his previous train of thought.

\'So, if I\'m interpreting what I\'ve seen so far correctly, the aberrations gave rise to the primitive humanoids in the quadrants.\'

\'However, Vaughn\'s goal in the first place is to try and recreate humans,\' inwardly muttered the young man.

\'In terms of how close the two are to an actual human, the primitive humanoid is closer than an aberration.\'

Eventually, the young man decided not to think about it any further, letting out yet another sigh.

\'Moving the matter regarding the aberrations and the primitive humanoids aside…\'

\'Why is he so adamant on trying to recreate humans?\' asked Valyr to himself, recalling that he had asked the same question earlier while he was viewing the memory.

Of course, with what he had learned from Ryvrthe, the young man had a feeling that the reason why Vaughn was doing it had something to do with the Great Cataclysm.

In his mind, he imagined that after the human civilization of the past had given the wrong answer to the Arbiters, the Arbiters did not hesitate to remove humanity off the face of Veldanyr.

"Though that part doesn\'t explain how Vaughn is still alive," muttered the young man as he slightly frowned.

"On top of that, if the Arbiters decided to remove humanity from Veldanyr, then why did they not aim for the Forsaken race living underground?"

At these thoughts, Valyr could only bitterly smile.

"Just when I thought I\'d obtain some answers, I ended up obtaining more questions instead."

"I sure hope these next few memories answer some of the other questions I have," said the young man soon after, only for the world around him to turn bright once more.

Compared to the two memories Valyr had witnessed that showed the birth of the aberrations and the primitive humanoids, the current memory Valyr was on seemed like a summary of what had transpired after Vaughn\'s accidental discovery.

Though he was still free to look around the entire place as he liked, the proceedings that happened during this memory were comprised of multiple snippets.

Some of them happened within the area with the test tubes and the documents, while some of them happened where the first aberration had been created.

However, most of these snippets occurred where the primitive humanoids had been accidentally created, with Vaughn experimenting on how little of the being\'s body could be cut off for its vitality to become stable.

With that, he experimented with cutting off the extremities of the beings first, such as the digits on their hands and feet.

Then, after seeing that the being\'s vitality still remained unstable, he proceeded to hack off more parts.

Whether he had to cut off hands, feet, eyes, ears, innards, or any other part on the being\'s body, he would do it just to see if he could get closer to having a being that looked like a real human.

Sadly, by the end of his mass experimentation, it seemed like the answer to his query had been in front of him all along.

Watching the current snippet occur before him, Valyr watched Vaughn stare at the being on the metal table with a bitter smile.

Taking out the knife he had used to carve a hole in its chest, Vaughn turned around as he made his way out of the room.

"Aria, record this as part of Experiment 1342-B and move this sample to one of the vacant containers."

"Name the sample Subject NH-024-A."

"Understood, Master."

"I need to revise the formulas again if I want to get any closer." While the robotic arms in the room proceeded to carry the unconscious being on the metal table to one of the large glass tubes, Valyr heard Vaughn mutter something before he left.

Curious, the young man went ahead and followed the man, hoping to find out more about the situation.

Though, before he could even leave the room, the world around him had turned dark yet again.

Slightly annoyed at how abrupt the memory ended, Valyr let out an exasperated sigh.

"At the very least, I now understand why most of the primitive humanoids look that way," said the young man to himself.

"But it still doesn\'t answer why there are only four primitive humanoids in the city ruins that only have holes in their chest," he continued, recalling what had happened at the final snippet of the memory.

From the expressions and the words Vaughn had said at that time, Valyr was certain that the man had discovered that the best way to create a primitive humanoid that resembled a human the closest was to carve a hole in its chest.

With that, the young man was certain that Vaughn had undoubtedly created hundreds upon hundreds of these beings after that in the hopes of eventually stumbling upon the method to get the being to resemble a human.

Yet, after a long time had passed, only four of those beings remained within the inheritance.

\'There\'s a chance that it did happen, but I have a feeling that the other primitive humanoids definitely haven\'t been killed by those that explored the inheritance before us,\' thought the young man to himself.

\'Which means that Vaughn must have done something to the other primitive humanoids as part of an experiment.\'

With this hypothesis in mind, Valyr watched as the world around him gradually regained its previous light, returning him to the place where Vaughn had been experimenting.

Being put in the place where the large glass tubes were located, a faint smile crept up Valyr\'s face when he noticed that the majority of the beings within the tubes were indeed the primitive humanoids with holes in their chests.

Psshh…

Hearing the door to the room open, Valyr shifted his attention towards the man that came in, faintly surprised by the fact that Vaughn seemed to have aged by at least a couple of decades.

Though the man\'s facial features looked more or less the same, his head of hair told a different story, reaching a length that went below his waist.

"This is probably the best result I\'ll ever get after spending this much time." Staring at the multiple glass tubes before him, Vaughn took in a deep breath before letting out a long and drawn-out sigh.

Then, taking out multiple test tubes filled with fluids from who knows where, the man soon spoke to the assistant that had helped him out all this time.

"Aria, set security level to SSS."

"Whether I succeed or fail…"

"Record this and name it as the final experiment."
