Chapter 982: Predicting the Tide
Chapter 982: Predicting the Tide
\'Right?\'
However, the more he thought about it, the more he felt that the words the Tidemother spoke
to them was undoubtedly pertaining to what he had done during the last monster tide he participated in.
After all, even though it was an accident, Valyr had done something that was beyond the norm for one to do during the monster tide.
And that was to have a weapon absorb the entirety of a Tidemother in order for it to improve in rarity.
Of course, the young man continued to ponder over Alfaera\'s words for a bit more, slowly shifting his thoughts away from the idea of him being the target of the upcoming monster tide.
Inwardly taking in a deep breath as he went through the ideas in his mind, Valyr glanced at the two before asking, "Was that the first time you\'ve heard something like that come from a Tidemother? Surely the Tidemothers before that said something else, no?"
Looking at each other for a bit with slight frowns on their faces, Tristan and Alfaera eventually looked back at Valyr as they shook their heads.
"The two Tidemothers we killed in the monster tides that came before that didn\'t say anything at all," said Tristan, his expression still that of a slight frown as the gears in his mind continued to turn. "Pretty sure it was only the most recent one that said something."
"Now that I think about it, it said something else aside from avenging a Tidemother," said Alfaera soon after as she continued where Tristan off, prompting Valyr to perk his ears up as he listened.
"To you who sullied the life of my kin and transformed their soul into nourishment for your armament, you must bear the entire wrath of the Alltide, lest you want the world to bear witness to your greatest folly."
"Up to this day, I still don\'t know what that means," Alfaera said after recounting the words of the Tidemother, only to hear Valyr let out a loud sigh of exasperation in response.
Seeing that his sigh had caught the attention of both Alfaera and Tristan, causing them to look at him with curious expressions, the young man eventually decided to come clean in front of them, explaining the Mark of the Alltide and its connection to the Tidemother\'s words.
Of course, he also explained the entire process as to how he obtained the curse in the first place, which made Tristan put on a pensive expression as he wrapped his head around the entire situation.
"So, you\'re saying... your spear absorbing the Tidemother\'s blood back in the last monster tide you participated in is the cause of the town\'s current predicament?"
Though it took Tristan a while to voice these words out, he was still confused by the entire thing, hoping that Valyr would shed more light on the situation.
"Yeah," replied the young man, faintly nodding with a bitter smile.
Brandishing his blood red spear in front of the two, Valyr then showed both Alfaera and Tristan how his strength continued to decrease over time as he continued, "You could take a look at my spear if you don\'t believe me."
"The other parts of the curse you\'ll only be able to see once we\'re out in the wilderness," he added, both Alfaera and Tristan still at a slight loss for words as to what was going on.
Thankfully, activating their identification skills on Valyr\'s spear was more than enough for them to put two and two together in their minds, causing them to let out sighs of their own as the two eventually focused their gazes at the young man.
"I wouldn\'t be surprised if you two are mad at me right now." Wryly smiling as a response to their gazes, Valyr returned his spear to his back as he opened his mouth. "After all, I am the cause of this upcoming monster tide."
"Technically, that would be true, but I can\'t see it that way," said Tristan in response, with Alfaera nodding in agreement. "After all, it\'s your spear that automatically absorbed the blood of the Tidemother during the end of the monster tide."
"I even remember the haggling session we did back then." The man let out a faint chuckle.
"If it helps you, the contributions you\'ve made outweigh all of that about the monster tide," said Alfaera, which made Valyr slightly smile in response.
Fortunately, after talking to the two for a bit more, the young man was eventually able to steer his mind away from the guilt of being the cause of the upcoming monster tide, instead choosing to make use of his current strength to help the town defend against it.
"So, do you guys have information on what we\'ll be up against during the upcoming monster tide?" asked Valyr as he looked at the two.
In response, Alfaera briefly shook her head. "We don\'t really have exact information on the upcoming tide per se, but we did make a couple predictions as to what we\'ll be up against this time around."
"After the last monster tide you participated in, the next two monster tides we were up against were led by Prodigious Lesser Tidemothers, with the latter Tidemother already at the peak of Rank 3."
"Then, the monster tide that we just defended against over two weeks ago was led by a Greater Tidemother, the same one that said all of that stuff about the Alltide," said Tristan, continuing where Alfaera left off.
"Compared to the Prodigious Lesser Tidemother from the second monster tide, the Greater Tidemother from the recent monster tide was already at the peak of Rank 4. It would\'ve been fine if it was just that..."
"But it was one tier above the Prodigious Lesser Tidemothers in terms of strength! The Mythic Elite tier!"
"To be honest, I don\'t even know how we weathered through that exactly." Taking in a calming breath, Tristan continued conveying his thoughts as he slightly shrugged his shoulders.
"However, with how the Tidemothers have grown in class rank with each passing monster tide..."
"We\'ve got the feeling that this monster tide would be our hardest monster tide yet."
"Especially with a peak Rank 5 Greater Tidemother manning the tide\'s helm."
