Chapter 106: Chapter 106 – Soloing Turret [3]
"Kssaaa!!"
Its attack was swift and precise. Two sickles coming from different directions were aimed to decapitate his head.
Because of that, it was easy to dodge even though Max could only see the shadow of the attack. He jumped with all of his strength. The sickles passed under him, and he used that chance to attack Turret's head again.
"Die!!"
However, his attack didn't land this time.
Clang!
Turret had predicted his move and blocked his attack with the sickle that he retracted quickly. A bright spark was created, illuminating the Infected's face. Its mouth was open wide from four sides, revealing the sharp teeth. From the look of it, it was grinning.
Realizing its expression, Max quickly looked at its right hand. The other sickle came from the side at lightning speed.
"Shit!"
It hit his side and sent him flying to the piles of boxes.
Bam!
— Holy! This AI can predict his move!
— Is he okay? The screen didn't show 'You Are Dead,' so he must still be alive, right?
— Breeze got hit! Clipped! Hehehe
— Wake up, Breeze!
From within the piles of boxes, Max staggered out, dragging his body. His body wasn't as good as before. His clothes were torn, and his skin bruised, showing the damage done by the previous attack.
"Ptui!" He spat out blood from his mouth and wiped it using his arm. "I didn't see that coming."
To slightly recover, he decided to hide behind a box, took out an herb, and chewed on the green leaves without hesitation. His wounds were mended with a green light, and he returned to his peak condition.
— There he is!
— Damn, he was damaged badly from just one attack
— I thought he died. He didn't wear any defensive equipment, so how can he still stand?
"Ah, I raised my boot knife to deflect the attack slightly. Though that resulted in my knife getting destroyed and sent me flying."
He raised the knife in his left hand and dropped it. It only had its handle left. The knife disappeared with a mote of blue light mid-air.
"That was careless of me. It won't happen next time." He muttered.
— …
— Did he just answer our question? In this situation?
— This man is crazy
— ^^ We've settled that in his second stream. He's a crazy monster motherlicker who is also maidenless
— Don't forget that he has bros before hoes too
— Kekeke, poor Breeze
'Those guys…' He gritted his teeth in annoyance when he read the chat. 'Well, let's ignore them for now. This centipede is stronger than I expected.'
He looked at Turret, who was slithering around in the clearing, circling the perimeter to look for him. At that moment, he realized something.
"Hmm?"
'Wait a minute.' He thought as he kept observing Turret's movement.
The Infected didn't seem to be coming after him even though it sent him flying easily.
"Does it think I have died? Is that why it doesn't approach and attack me?" He whispered in a pretty low voice.
He stroked his chin and began to analyze Turret's behavior from the start.
Firstly, the Infected only showed up when he made a loud noise. And even when it showed up, it always appeared in the same place, and that was the place where the commotion was made.
If it moved, he wouldn't be able to kill it in one hit using the heavy sniper rifle. He thought it was Turret's programmed behavior, but it wasn't. There was something else that made it unable to move.
Secondly, his surprise attack at the start worked, but not for the second time. If there was something different, the first attack was aimed when Turret rushed toward the commotion he made and had no time to stop.
That brought up a question.
'Why? With his sickles, he can defend against my attack. Why did it work for the first time but not the second?'
Max tried to remember the other differences and found one.
'Timing. All the sounds were covered by the loud rattling noises made from its legs. My voice was even covered by it. While on the second attack, I shouted before I could even deliver the attack, making it aware of my location.
And thirdly, Turret didn't attack him before he provoked it loudly. It only stood out from where it crashed before.
Fourth… The fact that Turret didn't come to him but chose to circle the area might not because it thought he had died. It was the opposite. Turret knew he was alive but was unable to find him.
In all of those examples, there was one similar thing.
'Turret relies on the sound to find me or move. This Infected is blind! Talk about a superior enemy with ridiculous speed, strength, and regenerative ability. It actually also has a weakness, just like every other enemy in this game!'
Max grinned and picked his body up. He now had a plan formulated in his mind. And with it, he was confident that he could defeat Turret with only a knife.
— Oh? Look at his face. It seems that he hadn't given up yet
— That face… I recognized it! The grin that sent a shiver down my spine… Ugh…
— Guys, shut up. It's time for him to cook!
— He got hit once and smirked. Is he a masochist?
— There is a loose screw in his head
— Repeating. Guys, shut up. Let him cook that centipede into a soup!!
"Yeah."
Max nodded as he read the chat. Even though it was the time to concentrate, he couldn't help but be curious about what his viewers said to him. It turned out to be something weird, as usual.
He had a plan. Taking a destroyed piece of wooden box on his side, he threw it with all of his strength.
A loud crash rang in the middle of the clearing when the wood hit the ground.
Turret seemed to stop slithering after it heard the noise. Then, It rushed toward the location and swept its tail, blowing everything away. Crashing sounds echoed from all directions as the woods scattered.
"Hiisssss!!"
Following that, it hissed in annoyance, seemingly lost its prey once again.
Looking at the Infected's behavior, Max's grin widened. It was just as he thought.
'This guy only relies on sounds as expected. In that case…'
Shuffling through his backpack, he grabbed something and took it out.
— A handgun?
— Does he give up the challenge? It's a knife only, right?
— No, wait. Look at what he did! He took out the mag and pulled the bullets out one by one!
Precisely. The plan was simple.
After getting 3 bullets out of the mags, he carefully held them so they wouldn't make any noises. After that, he put the gun back in his backpack and finished his preparation.
The plan was simple.
'… I just need to make a noise to distract Turret and kill it from behind silently. I hope the rattling sounds he made from his legs will cover my footsteps. I can only take this gamble.'
With that in mind, he tossed one bullet into the air.
