Chapter 288: Lyx, Devil of Death.
'What is going on?' Confusion reigned in his mind as he tried to make sense of his situation.
He also felt as though he had been in a similar situation before...
'So strange...'
He looked up and found the gigantic female devil-like entity staring down at him with no expression on her goddess-like face.
"W-what?" Cain said, his voice cracking up a bit.
She stayed silent for what seemed like an eternity. Then, she spoke,
"You... I can sense..."
Suddenly, Cain felt a world-destroying force press down on his body. His world spun around, as a supernova-like wave of primal killing intent rushed at him.
'I'm dead...' Cain instantly submitted himself to the cruel hands of fate. If anything, he wanted to go out quickly, so this didn't seem like a bad option.
"Stop!"
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out from the endless void around them. Cain froze up in shock as he saw a giant golden apparition shimmer into existence before him.
The wave of killing intent smashed into the golden dragon's back, but he didn't move an inch.
"You! You bear the blood of the Golden Emperor!" Cain watched as the previously shut eyes of the giant female devil opened to reveal two eyes that were larger than planets. One was like a pure, pristine blank canvas, while the other was so blazing red, that he believed it personified the color itself.
"It is an honor to be in the presence of the great Devil of Death, Her Majesty, Lyx..."
Cain was completely baffled as he watched the golden dragon now its horned head at the large female devil. Cain could tell why almost immediately.
The size difference between the golden dragon and the female devil was astronomical...
Cain looked like nothing compared to her, while Ashur was slightly bigger than a teacup. Cain had once thought Ashur stretched into the horizon. However, he realized he had thought so because he was only focused on one horizon. Once his field of vision expanded, he was able to see far clearer...
"It seems you know who I am. For you to come here with that awful stench means you do not plan to leave here alive, it seems. However, I can tell that you aren't alive. But..."
The female devil finally showed something that resembled some type of emotion other than true indifference. Her piercing gaze seemed to peer straight through his eyes and into his soul. He didn't even know how she could see him as he was smaller than a speck of dust beside her.
"How can I be so ignorant as not to know who you are, Great Primordial Devil whose dominion is over death itself? I have heard many stories about you."
Lyx went silent for a while. Although she was very huge, her voice didn't cause the void to tremble. Instead, it spread through the empty vacuum and reached his soul directly.
Hence, when she spoke, he was able to hear it crystal clearly,
"Speak, before I devour both your souls and body."
All this time, Ashur didn't even spare him a glance, making him feel as though he had done something very wrong.
"The wars are over, Your Grace."
This time, the silence seemed more deafening...
"So are my people wiped out?" Cain thought he could hear a hint of sorrow in her voice.
"Not yet, Your Grace. In fact, they have been thriving for millennia. They have populated the void and have made it their dwelling. From what I can remember, they have even begun preparations to create a new devil mountain.
Cain felt the void around them shake violently as soon as Ashur was done speaking,
"So my worries were unfounded..." The colossal devil murmured to herself.
The Golden Dragon chuckled, "Your race is known for its frightening adaptability after all..."
The killing intent that had just begun to fade away suddenly resurfaced,
"So, pray tell... Why do you tell me all this? Why do you speak with me like this? We, the Devil race have been at war with your Celestial race since the dawn of time. Is Tian dead?"
Cain heard the giant dragon sigh,
"Unfortunately, no. The old bastard is not dead yet."
Cain suddenly felt the void stir as a powerful and boundless aura spread from Ashur. It was so strong, that even the colloidal Devil seemed taken aback,
"You!"
"While I am his bastard son, I want nothing more than to destroy the very essence of that tyrant's existence."
Lyx was suspicious, "And why is that? You plan to usurp your father's throne?"
Ashur shook its majestic head, "Far from that... I have no interest in that. All I want is to get my mind of flesh. However, as you can see, I am no more than a vengeful spirit..."
Lyx fell silent for a while, "Celestial Beast, Son of Tian, The prophecy..."
To this, Ashur simply snorted in derision,
"Prophecy my ass! The entirety of this existence and its maker are completely batshit crazy! Only a fool will believe in a dumb prophecy now, especially after my royal failure."
Cain could hear the bitterness, self-loathing, and anger in Ashur's voice. His words burrowed into his mind, his emotions tugging at the corners of his crumbling mind
"I am not without my regrets too, young Dragon. I have many debts to pay, and many more to collect. I understand, but unfortunately, I will be taking control of this vessel." The Colossal She-devil said as her body grew closer.
Cain couldn't help but gasp. Gazing at this supreme entity made him feel as though he was running mad slowly. His already broken consciousness was already on the brink. Just a single shove would send him over the edge.
Ashur's deep voice reverberated, "You are a Primordial Devil, Great Lyx. Your power is too great for a mere mortal like him to bear."
'Are they talking about me?' Cain thought to himself.
"I have spent eons perfecting my methods, Young Dragon. I planned on using one of the abominations that come to offer sacrifices to me. However, such a wonderful candidate was delivered directly into my arms. Wouldn't I be a fool to pass on this? I am a Primordial Devil. It is in my nature to plunder all that exists and make it mine.
Everything that exists, everything that breathes, everything that doesn't... All things, all roads, shall lead back to me..."
Death was a phenomenon that no entity in existence could escape. Even stars and planets, heavenly objects, die.
All roads lead to death...
It is inevitable. An irrefutable fact...
However, some people just didn't care.
"To hell with all that crap!" Ashur said, pure, unadulterated rage pouring down his majestic body.
"Insolence!" The eyes of Lyx burned with scorching light as she stared daggers at Ashur.
The huge golden dragon sneered,
"Go ahead, do your worst! The most you can do is try wiping that idiot away from existence. It doesn't really change anything for me. All roads lead back to you? Hahaha! Bullshit!"
Cain had no idea what to make of the interaction anymore. Here he was, dying, and these two were planning to have a go at it. They were even talking about how they wanted to wipe him away from existence in the process...
'Since when did I become collateral damage?!'
"You have a stubborn heart, just like your father. I will enjoy devouring you slowly." Her cold, venom-laced voice engulfed the entirety of the void, her fury burning like a thousand stars.
"I have escaped death before. This will mark the second time..."
Just when it seemed these two Titanic beings would clash, a tiny, almost insignificant voice spoke,
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but could you two delay this for a while? I need to find somewhere to hide."
Silence...
"You idiot..." Ashur groaned as he stared at Cain with disbelief in his black and white eyes.
"Mortal, What sort of creature are you?"
"Good day, Miss... Erh... Lyx! I am a Human." Cain answered hesitantly.
"A human? Must be a lesser race..." The Primordial devil murmured to herself.
Cain was suddenly compelled to say something. He felt like if he didn't, then he would not live for very long,
"Isn't there a way for us to reach a peaceful resolution of things?"
"Unless you surrender your soul completely unto me so I can devour and replace it within your body, No," Lyx answered directly.
Cain's eyelids twitched, "I see..."
Then he turned to Ashur, "What do we do now?!"
The Golden Dragon snorted angrily at him,
"You are the one who got us into this mess!"
'Oi, don't go blaming me now...'
Cain let out a sigh. Then he turned back to Lyx who was staring at him as though he was witnessing a very strange phenomenon,
"Do you have another proposal, something that doesn't involve me dying?"
Cain could see the Primordial She-devil hesitate. However, a look of resolve settled in her eyes,
"I have been trapped her for eons. The thing I desire the most is to break free from my prison."
Since Cain had met Og-Solath, he had heard about Lyx, the Primordial Devil of Death, as well as her relationship with him. Now, he was aware of her fate. She has also been captured and sealed.
She obviously longed for freedom, for liberation. And apparently, only his death could bring that.
And so, not wanting to die, he had to think. He had to think deeply. He had only one shot at this. He had his head down for a few seconds, thinking about what course of action to take.
Slowly, he took his head up,
"What if I say I can release you?"
"That is impossible." Lyx and Ashur said simultaneously.
"Oi, hear me out..." Cain waved his hands.
Lyx shook her head, "Do not drag this on further than it has to be."
Ashur was silent. He didn't say anything, only staring into the distance, numerous magic circles networking in his eyes.
"Hear me out. If I am correct, then the thing keeping you bound here is not the pit of darkness, but the tree instead."
The indifferent She-devil seemed surprised, "How do you know this?"
Cain pointed out, "Your magic circle was being limited. Although you have accumulated power, the tree still limits the power and scale of the spell greatly. That is if I should call that thing a spell..."
Cain had never seen such a skill before. It was like a more potent, larger-scale version of the {Seal} with attributes he couldn't uncover yet.
Ashur suddenly spoke up, "It should be possible, "If we inlay the magic circles and use the blood pool as a catalyst and remove the limiter, and switch it with a by-pass inlay circle, then we should be able to find a way to maximize output..."
Cain was confused, but the Primordial Devil, Lyx, was even more so...
"What are you two..."
A grin appeared on the Golden Dragon's face, making it look many times more terrifying than it actually looked,
"If I am not mistaken, we might have a chance at freeing you from your eternal prison without you having to wipe him from existence..."
