Chapter 233 Kidnapping
Chapter 233 Kidnapping
Actually, he was responsible for what had become of Madeleine.
There was truth in what Madeleine had said, that the little girl was different from the other children kidnapped along with them.
Because the little girl was cute and well-behaved, even the traffickers developed a soft spot for her and said they would find her a good family.
At that time, the little girl was very close to the traffickers.
Keira was taken aback by this.
She couldn\'t help but think of herself.
Her big brother had promised her, too. He had said he would come for her and marry her, but he never did, not all these years.
No wonder old Mrs. Horton had said Lewis was a man with a strong sense of responsibility.
Soon, the two of them arrived at the psychiatric hospital.
It was very quiet here, the environment was beautiful, and in the entire psychiatric hospital, there was no one except for Madeleine.
This alone showed Lewis\'s meticulous care for her.
After the car stopped at the entrance, Keira followed him to Madeleine\'s ward.
As soon as they entered, they met her attending doctor.
The attending doctor sighed in relief upon seeing Mr. Horton. "Mr. Horton, we didn\'t mean to bother you, but Miss Davis has been vomiting everything she\'s eaten since yesterday. If she doesn\'t eat properly and only relies on nutrient solutions, her stomach might fail completely..."
Listening to the doctor, Keira couldn\'t help but make a comment in her mind.
Was Madeleine still not weaned? If Lewis didn\'t come, she wouldn\'t eat?
They hadn\'t yet reached the door of the ward when they heard a feeble voice from inside. "Lewis, is that you? If my big brother doesn\'t come, I won\'t eat. It\'s too uncomfortable to vomit. I need my big brother..."
Lewis heard this but didn\'t rush in.
He turned his head to glance at Keira, then took her by the hand and walked in.
Keira immediately saw the woman in a hospital gown.
Compared to the last time during the birthday banquet, she seemed even thinner, and the hospital gown hung loose on her body.
Her skin was so pale it was nearly translucent, her cheeks sunken, and she was so thin that she seemed deformed.
Upon seeing Lewis, a light shone in her eyes, "Lewis..."
But Lewis\'s face remained stiff. "I\'ve heard you aren\'t eating. I\'ve brought my wife to see you."
He emphasized the words "my wife".
Madeleine\'s gaze reluctantly shifted from him and fell upon Keira, a flash of anxiety and hostility crossing her eyes as she frantically looked at Lewis. "Lewis, what do you mean by this?" n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Lewis said, "Miss Davis, I\'m already married, and from now on, you should try to be independent."
Madeleine was startled, then tears began to roll down her cheeks. "Lewis, are you not going to take care of me anymore?"
Lewis lowered her gaze. "I\'ll continue to pay for your medical expenses."
Madeleine was dazed. "Does this mean you\'ll never come to see me again?"
Lewis didn\'t respond.
Madeleine kept crying. "But if I don\'t see you, I\'ll die! Lewis, you can\'t do this to me..."
She stood up from the bed, weak from illness and not eating for two days. She was shaky and dizzy.
Yet she still moved toward Lewis, reaching out to grasp him. "Lewis, I saved your life back then, and you promised to marry me! Have you forgotten?"
Lewis calmly said, "The words of a nine-year-old child cannot be taken seriously."
"But I took them seriously!"
Madeleine\'s voice suddenly rose. "I took them seriously! I\'ve been waiting for you to marry me since I was a child! In this world, you were my only salvation! Lewis, you promised to take care of me when you first found me. Are you giving up on me now that you are married?"
After her outburst, she had no more strength left and stumbled back on the bed.
Lewis looked at her, frowning. "I promised to take care of you, but not to marry you."
"But now you\'re married, you\'ll start your own life, and you\'ll have children with her. You\'ll gradually forget me... you are giving up on me!"
She cried miserably, like an abandoned child. "If even you don\'t want me, who in this world will? What\'s the point of me living? Lewis, you know my condition. If you don\'t take care of me, it would be better to kill me now than let me suffer in the future!"
Her words made Lewis grind his teeth.
Keira scoffed, stepping in front of Lewis and facing Madeleine. "Is that all you can say, repeating his name?"
Madeleine paused when hearing that.
Keira then turned to her. "Everyone should take control of their own life. Why should someone else be responsible for it?!"
Madeleine trembled, pointing her finger at Lewis. "He promised to marry me!"
"Who takes childhood talk seriously?" Keira scoffed. "I also had a big brother who said he would marry me when I was a child, and he never came. Should I also find that person and block his doorway?"
Madeleine was at a loss for words.
But Lewis was slightly taken aback. "What big brother?"
Keira glanced at him and said indifferently, "Who didn\'t play house when they were kids? Why bother with such things!"
Lewis didn\'t speak again.
Instead, Madeleine regained her composure, crying out, "It\'s different for me! You were playing, but I saved Lewis\'s life with my own. If it weren\'t for me, Lewis would have been beaten to death by now! The people who kidnapped him were going to kill him! But it was different for me, taking me was just incidental, and they just wanted to sell me off! I was the one who saved Lewis, and when I did, we agreed he would take responsibility for me and marry me... Lewis, you can\'t go back on your word!"
These words stunned Keira.
Kidnapping?
Why did this all sound so familiar?
