Chapter 349: A Grim Future
Furthermore, the man she imagined it happening to was none other than the man who had practically saved her life and turned it in a different direction!
She didn't want to see such a grim premonition come to fruition, and somewhere in her mind, she thought she could change that fate.
It was a childish idea, and she knew that as well as the next person. But that didn't stop her from believing that she could make a difference for the man she
for the man she loved.
Her memories were about to swirl down a very depressing hole, but before they could, a melodic and charming yet mature feminine voice echoed out.
"You know that there's no point in worrying so much, don't you?" Ember asked with a gentle tone.
She may not have known the young cat girl for long, but on their journey through the vast deserts of the Twentieth Floor, Calista would often come into the black dome and talk to the Monster Queen's about all different kinds of things.
Although such things weren't really news to them, every single one of the Monster Queen's enjoyed having calista around them.
But now they saw that same meek and timid yet vivacious girl in such low spirits, bawling her eyes out to a wall that they all knew would never open up.
That same girl was waiting until the 'outcome' of Azmond's fate was finalized It was saddening to witness such a thing first hand
-
"..." "..." "..."
All the Monster Queen's stared at such a melancholic sight with sympathetic gazes, as they had heard about Calista's past and what led up to her meeting Azmond.
And the only thing they had to say to describe such a backstory was 'tragic'.
It was tragic for a girl so young to be subjected to such mental and physical torture.
That all went to say that they understood why she was in such a distraught state after finding out that she couldn't be next to the man who turned her life around for the better...
After all, they all owed Azmond themselves. And they, too, felt lost over his life or death being out in the wind.
But what could they do? It wasn't like they had the power to assist him, let alone find a way to escape the vigilant eyes of Clawdia.
The only option they had was to wait with heavy hearts and pray to all the gods that he would come back in one piece.
However, that was easier said than done when the intense emotions of Calista were starting to elicit similar feelings of loss and helplessness in all of them.
Nonetheless, in spite of her sadness, Ember still walked over to Calista with a motherly aura before she hugged her fron behind and whispered, "Just believe that Azmond will make it back, and I'm sure that your intent will reach him no matter the distance that separates you two."
Her honeyed and soft words sounded out in the black dome, as all the Monster Queens, Ayalah, and Spiritflame were surprised over seeing a new side of the usually reserved Ember.
'Had something changed in her?' They all thought in unison.
The Ember they knew would never do anything of the sort a couple months ago. In fact, out of all the relatively benign High-Rank Monster Queen's, she was the coldest of them all.
And yet there actually came a day that the same Emberan Ember who gave them cold glances when they sparked up conversationsthat same Ember comforted a complicated catkin girl with no apparent benefits she could gain from doing such a thing.
It was a surreal sight for all the High-Rank Monster Queen's and King's, that's for sure.
Nevertheless, they were brought out of their thoughts of disbelief with the next words that came out of Ember's mouth as she continued speaking to Calista.
"I'm sure he can take care of whatever calamities come his way; after all, he was able to assuage your sister's emotions, and she's known to be the biggest tyrant in all of Monster Society," Calista murmured, followed by a soft, calming giggle escaping her pretty red lips.
"...Sniffle Sniffle" Calista turned her moist eyes up to the red-haired foxkin before she mumbled, "...Mhmm"
Following her simple response and a light bob of her head, she turned her body around before hugging the far taller figure of Ember.
"???" Ember was a little taken aback by the abrupt actions of Calista, but she wasn't going to leave the poor girl all alone inside her own mind.
*Uhmph*
She reciprocated the trembling hug in full as she held onto the teary Calista with a gentle look on her face.
A warm and cozy aura enveloped the inside of the black dome as two seemingly polar opposite figures had a fuzzy momenta moment that worked well in lightening the agitated moods of all the Monster Queen's.
And although they hated to admit it, both Ayalah and Spiritflame were a little worried over the safety of Azmond before Calista and Ember started talking.
Only a 'little' bit though!
It may seem a little odd that undecided enemies were turned into acquaintances and then 'almost-friends', but a month and a half in a boring desert with nothing in it besides the occasional country-sized worm hybrid did a lot to change the way people thought of each other.
And for the two Monster King's, their change in opinions was quite a bit more significant, as not only did Azmond pardon them of all the things they had to do to survive, but he also gave them a chance to gain even more power than they possessed as mere High-Rank Monster Kings.
It wasn't every day, or really any day, that a human exhibited such benevolence to those of the Monster Race.
So in the minds of the two goofballs, they thought of Azmond as a close confidant or friend of sorts.
Although the 'friend' in question was utterly unaware of this, that was completely besides the point!
