Chapter 216: Palkus’ Journey! Pause
"Ara, just call me mother." The lady, who looked like an older version of his girlfriend, made the young man feel like a child. She was wearing an apron on top of a white long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and crocs.
"Thank you, mother." Palkus said it once again.
"I didn't know you had such a handsome boyfriend, you cheeky girl." Emily's mother, Emiliana, looked at her daughter smugly and said. Emily, however, didn't say anything and just stood there, shy and embarrassed.
"So… when are you going to get off him?" Instead of replying to her mother, however, Emily looked back at her sister, who was clinging to Palkus and said.
"Uwaaa! Sister is bullying me again." The little girl cried and burried herself into Palkus.
"Just let her be." Palkus is not bothering to mind the little girl anymore; he is focused on his task. However, this made him kind of miss his sister Antita at the moment.
"By the way, I came here to tell you that I won't be taking the blacksmith test today, so if you can, we can go today." Palkus said.
"Ara, where are you going?" Emiliana took a couple plates and walked to the table to give the young man something to eat as welcome and on her way, she took a couple glances at the couple.
"Umm…" Emily, not knowing what to say, just stood there silently.
"Since Emily has a break this week, we thought of going on a trip to Saint City." Palkus replied.
"Oh? Well isn't that cute." Emiliana put down the plates of goodies and opened her eyes.
"I guess it's time for you to find your happiness." She looked back at her daughter and said, making the young lady shy.
"You're going to take my sister away." Suddenly, the young girl that was clinging to Palkus took a few steps back from him and looked at his eyes with tears threatening to fall.
'Weren't you just running away from her a few seconds ago?' Palkus thought to himself.
"We will be back before you know, don't worry." He replied.
"Uwaaa! evil brother is taking my sister away!" The whiny kid then went towards her mother.
"Don't mind this little brat; she's just putting on a drama now that her sister is home after months of work." Emiliana said.
"It's fine; I don't mind, really." Palkus replied.
"What a sweet gentleman; you remind me of my deceased husband." Emiliana just smiled and went back to the kitchen.
"Hmm?" Palkus, hearing the news that Emily's father was dead, looked at his girlfriend in confusion.
"Well, to be exact, we don't know if he's still alive or not, he was an adventurer, you see?" Emily answered the young man's doubt while walking closer to sit next to him.
"I see… What's your father's name?" Palkus asked curiously.
"Maximilian." Emily replied, looking slightly down.
"…" Palkus, noticing how the lady didn't like this subject very much, went silent for a few seconds to think of something else to talk about.
"About the trip… I think we should keep it for tomorrow." Emily suddenly spoke.
"Oh?" Palkus was surprised for a second but looking at the mother and child in the kitchen in front of them, he quickly understood.
"I see, Well then, we'll keep the plan as it was." Palkus nodded.
"Thank you, Palkus." Emily replied with a sweet smile.
"That's what I should be doing." The young man said this and looked at the goodies in front of him.
There were a couple dwarven pastries on the plate that Palkus could choose from, along with some elven tea. This was the first time the young man was going to eat the pastries so he was looking forward to them.
He began nibbling on a few and before he knew it, the plates were empty.
"Hehe, do you want me to get you some more?" Emily, who was watching him eat all along, asked.
"Ah… if you could please." Slightly shy of asking for more, Palkus nodded and said.
After eating seconds and planning to leave, Emiliana appeared once again from the kitchen, with Amy finally running towards her sister without being stubborn.
"Ara, where are you going?" Emiliana asked.
"Well, I don't want to take too much of your family time so I will be back tomorrow to take Emily." Palkus replied.
"There's no such thing, young man. Today you'll be staying in this house." Emiliana slowly walked towards the door and closed it before she announced.
"Uh…" Palkus didn't really have a problem but he didn't want to intrude.
"You can stay here till tomorrow and then the two of you can leave, okay?" A scary smile appeared on Emiliana's face that forced the young man to just nod and go sit right back.
"Hehe." Emily, however, was having a fun time seeing Palkus struggle.
"My mother can be quite scary sometimes..." she said.
"I can see that." Palkus replied while looking at Emiliana, who was going back to the kitchen.
And so the day passed.
When the mother came out of the kitchen once again, she brought out a meal that was engraved in Palkus' mind because of how delicious it was. The young man was so entranced by the taste that he looked at Emily and asked if she could cook like this, to which the mother replied proudly that Emily was her best disciple.
Palkus, feeling that he had won in life, sat on the couch alongside his girlfriend and her sister, who gave him the cold shoulder now instead of Emily.
Emiliana even sat on another couch and started asking questions and recounting stories of Emily when she was young, amongst other stuff.
All in all, the day passed amazingly and the next day, the couple was more than ready to go on their trip.
