Chapter 398: Half-Beastman Thief
Four minor monsters dropped a level 15 blue-plate helmet. When rolling the dice, all four people looked towards Song Jian. If Song Jian chose ‘Need’, Wang Qi and the other three would certainly choose ‘Pass’.
Song Jian glanced at the item, immediately noticed it was plate armor, and chose ‘Pass’. Ma Yu breathed a sigh of relief and chose ‘Need’.
Watching Wang Qi don the new blue-quality helmet, Wang Qi chuckled softly, “What a lucky start!”.
In addition to the level 15 blue-quality plate helmet, the four minor monsters also dropped a bunch of materials. After Song Jian and the others casually rolled the dice to distribute these materials, they continued walking forward;
After dealing with the four “watchdog” monsters, the remaining minor monsters were much easier to kill. Some of them didn’t even leave their cages along the corridor, even though the cage doors were broken. Even when the group stood at the cage entrances to fight the monsters inside, they didn’t move out one step, as if they hadn’t heard.
“Sinful Prison Zombie, Elite level, Level 15, Vitality Points: 1600/1600, Trait:
Cunning, Skill: Begging for Mercy.”
The remaining monsters in this dungeon appeared in small groups. If they were careful, they could usually lure and eliminate them one by one. Once they passed the four “Guardian Zombies” at the entrance, things would be much simpler.
After killing seven or eight minor monsters, Song Jian realized that their progress was too slow. It took them more than half an hour to kill just seven or eight minor monsters, which caused Song Jian’s eyebrows to knit together in slight frustration.
“Should we try to speed things up?” Song Jian couldn’t help suggesting.
“Speed up? We’re already fighting pretty fast!” Ma Yu was surprised and asked in confusion.
“Does Brother Song mean we should lure more monsters at once? Wong Qi caught on immediately and suggested quietly.
“Exactly. Lure several at a time. I’ll handle the aggro, and you all focus on dealing damage from the back,” Song Jian agreed. The layout here was a straight corridor with cages on either side. As long as he could hold aggro for two or three mobs at a time, the monsters in the back wouldn’t be able to get through to attack them.
“Isn’t that a bit too dangerous?” The priest Zhou Qing hesitated. If there were too many monsters, he, as the slowest team member, might not have enough time to run away when things went south.
“No problem, let’s just try luring seven or eight at first,” Song Jian suggested with a smile;
“Okay, I’ll lure them. You guys wait a bit further back,”. Thief Tang Rong activated his Acceleration Skill immediately. A white light appeared under his feet, and he became noticeably faster.
He rushed into several cages, hit each monster once, and then turned around
to run;
In just a short while, Tang Rong had lured a dozen or so monsters to charge towards the dungeon entrance;
“That’s a bit too many.” Ma Yu frowned slightly, raising his shield instinctively;
“No worries. Watch me!” Song Jian said, rushing towards the monsters with his sword. Tang Rong, sweating profusely, passed by Song Jian;
“Broken Wing Dance!”
Song Jian swung his arm, slashing horizontally with his sword. A burst of Sword Qi scattered and hit a few of the nearest monsters, causing them to give up chasing Tang Rong and shift their attention to Song Jian instead.
Bang…Bang…!
Two dazzling bursts of Sword Qi bloomed amid the group of monsters. Finally, he leaped up for the last hit, a powerful downward slash that landed in the middle of the monsters.
“Is he trying to get himself killed? What if he gets surrounded?” Ma Yu’s face showed a surprised expression.
“Genius takes bold risks?” Tang Rong wiped the sweat off his forehead and murmured, still feeling a bit shaken. He vaguely felt a strong aura approaching when he was luring the monsters, which made him panic and cause a mistake. He intended to lure only seven or eight minor monsters but ended up luring thirteen.
“Do we even need to join in? It feels like we just need to cheer him on from the sidelines,” Zhou Qing smirked and gasped for air.
“Feels like we’re playing a different game from him,” Wang Qi sighed. He’d felt this way since meeting Song Jian.
Song Jian threw out a series of sword skills one after another. Despite facing more than a dozen elite-level monsters, he gave the impression of dominating the monsters single-handedly, as if they existed just to be his fodder.
“I think I felt the presence of a very powerful creature in the corridor earlier, but 1 couldn’t see what it looked like…” Tang Rong hesitated for a moment before finally sharing his suspicion in a whisper;
“You mean there’s another boss in the corridor?” Ma Yu was taken aback and asked immediately.
“Isn’t there only one boss in this dungeon?” Zhou Qing, pointing towards the room at the end of the corridor, asked in confusion.
“It was just a feeling, I’m not sure if I’m right,” Tang Rong explained. It s like there’s a knife pressed against your back. Even though you can’t see it, you can feel something threatening your life.”
“Could it be an invisible boss?” Wang Qi had a sudden revelation, glanced at Tang Rong, and was taken aback.
Just as Wang Qi was preparing to shout a warning to Song Jian, he suddenly noticed a semi-transparent figure slowly materializing behind Song Jian. This figure was a hunched monster, its face covered with a black cloth, wielding a dagger in its right hand and aiming straight for Song Jian’s head.
“Watc—” Wang Qi was shocked and shouted aloud, but before he could finish his sentence, he saw Song Jian’s body emit a golden light. Song Jian’s body turned at an unbelievable angle, and the dark red long sword in his hand collided fiercely with the dagger aimed at his head, creating a burst of sparks.
“Boom-”
The mysterious thief who had suddenly appeared was forced to retreat several steps. Over 300 damage points floated up above his head. The surprised down in his blood-red eyes, and his figure faded gradually from sight.
It was during this moment that Song Jian managed to identify the creature. To his surprise, it was a boss with its own name – an 18 level elite.
“Half-Beastman Thief Zombie – Scufar, Elite Level, Level 18, Vitality Points: 3600/3600, Traits: Bloodthirsty, Cunning, Skills: Stealth, Deadly Strike, Ambush, Devastate, Garrotte.”
Scufar was a half-beastman with goblin bloodline. He was short and thin, standing only half the height of a typical adult male, and didn’t have noticeable muscles. He looked like he could be blown away by a gust of wind.
However, Scufar was a formidable thief. The day he turned into a zombie after the apocalypse, his goblin bloodline awakened, making him one of the most powerful bosses in the dungeon.
Because he could turn invisible and wasn’t bound to a specific area, Scufar liked to roam around the corridor while hidden.
When Tang Rong was luring the monsters earlier, Tang Rong ran into Scufar’s warning range. If he hadn’t sensed Scufar’s presence and ran out, Scufar might have kept him behind.
Seeing Scufar, Tang Rong couldn’t help but feel scared. If Scufar had caught up with him earlier, he would have been torn to pieces by the monsters he lured;
“That was too close!” Tang Rong patted his chest, still shaken, and whispered to himself.
“The boss appeared, what should we do? Do we need to go and help?” Ma Yu held up his shield and asked his companions while looking around.
“Do we even need to ask? Of course, we go!” Wang Qi was the first to raise his weapon, aiming at a monster attacking Song Jian, and pulled the trigger.
“Let’s go, let’s take down the monsters that are low on health first!” Tang Rong gritted his teeth, activated his stealth ability, and started heading towards Song Jian.
