Chapter 175: 175. Shattered Snake

Van had just burst out the side of the wall.

He felt a searing pain in his right hand, knowing that it was fractured at best and, if he was unlucky, maybe even broken.

But he didn't stay. He knew he didn't have that luxury.

One clash of swords had brought him back to reality; if he met Lucius again, he was finished.

Van forced so much mana into his legs that he secretly felt his muscles starting to tear, but he didn't care. He just wanted to get as far away from there as possible!

But as Van was running, he suddenly felt his heart sink.

Going against every single instinct, Van looked back, and his face instantly turned pale.

On the roof of the buildings, he could see a figure speeding towards him like a flying bullet.

The figure seemed to be flickering in and out of reality, flying at him like a reaper from the underworld coming to claim a life.

Within seconds, the figure had already closed the gap and was only a few meters away from him.

Seeing this, Van knew there was no hope of escape and grit his teeth as he roared.

"God damn it! You forced me to do this!"

Slamming his hand on his chest, Van coughed out a mouthful of blood onto his sword, causing the sword to scream in what could only be described as macabre pleasure.

The sword glowed ominously, turning into a dark reddish-green. Soon, the viper on the sword burst to life, forming an ominous scaly phantom.

"Dark Viper Sword, kill that bastard!"

The magic weapon gleefully obeyed the words of its master, buzzing through the air.

As it approached Lucius, it started to swirl, generating tens of equally lifelike phantoms of emerald-green snakes, each hissing with a poisonous light.

Seeing this sight, Lucius wasn't afraid.

The blood of the high king and ancient dragon wouldn't bow down to something as pathetic as a poisonous snake!

His blood roared as he clenched his fist inside the thunder gauntlet.

Purple thunder boomed all around Lucius, making him look like a human thundercloud as he felt his mana rushing towards the gauntlet from everywhere else in his body.

Stepping forward, the world began to shake as Lucius snarled.

"Shatter!"

A giant lightning fist manifested, charging forward and shattering any of the snake phantoms that dared to so much as graze it.

The Dark Viper Sword slammed head-on into Lucius's terrifying fist.

The phantom of the viper writhed, screamed, and wailed, but it was all futile.

After just one terrifying lightning pulse, it was helplessly thrown to the side.

Seeing this sight, Van felt sick.

His last card that he had been clinging onto had failed him.

Lucius walked slowly towards him, his footsteps ringing against the pavement.

But for Van, each footstep seemed to echo like thunder.

As he got closer, the pressure exuded on him got worse and worse.

Van felt his sword spin. It was as if he was being stepped on and crushed by a titanic being hidden in the void.

Forget about moving; he could barely even breathe!

He looked at Lucius, a being he could only view as a complete monster, but even so, he was unwilling to die.

"Please… please spare my life."

Hearing this, Lucius tilted his head to the side, mildly intrigued.

"Oh? And why should I?"

"Money, weapons, treasure—I can give you everything I own…."

Hearing this, Lucius just shook his head as he showed a toothy grin.

"If I kill you, I'll just take it, and then it's still mine, no?"

Van's face went pale.

"It seems like you really don't want to live," said Lucius coldly.

As he spoke, he stretched forth his hand towards Van's neck, ready to snuff out the gang boss's pitiful life, but right before Lucius finished the job, Van let out a whimper.

"Star seed… I know the location of a star seed."

When Lucius heard this, his entire body froze.

His face, which had been clouded by rage, energy, and bloodlust, quickly sobered up as he instantly brought his face close to Van's.

"Are you telling the truth? I'll warn you now, if I find out you're lying, even the Goddess of Light herself won't have enough lives for the torture I'll put you through."

Faced with such a murderous and draconic aura, Van nearly wet himself.

But then he thought such a reaction would only get Lucius to kill him even sooner, so he managed to regain control and stuttered weakly.

"It's true… While I was escorting a cargo haul to a nearby town, I ran into a magic beast, and while I was chasing it to hunt it down, it ran into a quarantine zone. After careful investigation, I found out that it was done by the Church of Light to protect the blooming of a star seed."

Hearing this, Lucius was excited, but he still managed to regain his composure and asked coldly.

"Who else knows about this?"

"Nobody, I can swear by it. I didn't tell my men for fear they would sell me out. I was planning to pass it on to the Montford family when my two young masters came to inspect the gang, but…"

The rest didn't need to be said. Lucius messing with the two delinquent twins had actually caused such a large butterfly effect.

As Lucius thought about this, a crafty smile blossomed on his face.

Well, it's not like he was the one complaining.

A star seed! He actually got traces of a legitimate star seed.

To put things into perspective, Landon, the literal protagonist of this world, had only received a star seed a handful of times in the original book.

Do you know how rare something has to be for even the protagonist to barely encounter it?
