Chapter 23 Making A Report
In this building complex, there are many sections that take care of the royal family business, whether it's the PR section that takes care of maintaining a good image of the royal family, especially the king, The business section that takes care of all the royal family business and earning the money for the royal family outside of the income from the taxpayer money.
Or the police force that was directly under the royal family and only working for the interest of the royal family alone. In short, they are the royal family's personal force that will go out to oppress and arrest anyone who asks questions against the royal family and show resistance under the guise of the law.
The police officer who had an encounter with Daniel last night walks through the large reception area to a door in the extreme security wing of the building after passing through many hallways of the building complex.
The police officer passed the iris scan and the door opened revealing the large hallway that led to three separate sections. He walked toward the section that had a sign written "Tessia Royal Court Magician Office".
He walks into a large office that has many empty seats. The only seat that was not empty was the seat of the red-haired beautiful secretary in front of the chief room.
"How may I help you, section chief?" The red-haired beauty in the black formal suit who sat in front of the chief room asked with a business smile. She's a secretary of the royal court mage chief, the only one who is competent enough to satisfy a very high working standard expectation of the Chief of the royal court mage.
The police officer was the section chief of the royal family enforcer or the royal police section chief. He was proud of his achievement, even though it came from many bribery and arrangements and a lot of donations to the royal family. He is still the only one who manages to secure this position from the many.
The section chief nods at the beautiful secretary, the reflection of lust briefly appears within the section chief's eyes and quickly disappears before the beautiful red-haired woman in front of him ever notices.
He then quickly states his business.
"I have an urgent report to the royal court mage chief." Said the police section chief.
"Please wait a moment." The secretary then entered the room to speak with the chief mage.
The police section chief admires the back view of the sexy redhead when she turns her back to him while walking into Chief Mage's room. The red-haired beauty secretary was only a normal person, other than her looks and voluptuous body that was equal to a model. There's nothing special. She's not a mage or comes from a great family. Beautiful, competent, and have no background, A very ideal target for people in power to exploit.
Surprisingly enough, no one dared to do it, because anyone who tried always appeared on the news as a corpse in a ditch somewhere.
Of course, as a Royal Police Section Chief, he knows who did that. The only man who was close to her and had enough power and authority to suppress anyone was sitting inside the Chief of The Royal Court Mage room.
[Now I was wondering what would happen if the king gave the honor to her to meet with him privately.]
The redhead secretary stayed in the chief mage room for a few moments then came out.
"Section Chief, please go in." The secretary said as she opened the door for the police section chief.
Within the room of the royal court mage chief, there are many strange-looking objects and a small stone gargoyle that was decorated on the wall that emits terrifying pressure on anyone who saw it.
The man with neat and slick black hair that was combed back and his serious no-nonsense face was looking at the section chief. He is the same man who investigates the shrine along with his people.
"Greeting royal court mage chief, How was your day? Still enjoying Miss Secretary's company?" The section chief greeted the mage chief with a lewd smile while mentioning his secretary.
The mage chief didn't say anything but his eyes grew colder while looking at the police section chief.
"Royal Police Section Chief, You tell my secretary that you have an urgent report to make when I just finished my work for the day and am about to rest. Then you honor me with an excellent greeting choice of words that you made an effort to use your lower head to make.
I know that competency was not a trend around here, especially with people in high positions like you. But you just surprised me by making a new definition of the word "Uselessness" for me to witness." The mage said toward the man in front of him with a sarcastic smile.
The police section chief's face suddenly darkened. He was angered by the sarcastic word from the man in front of him. Even though he had a lower position, this disrespect was not the first time that the chief mage shoveled at his face.
This is the reason why he didn't like to come here much. If there is no business he wouldn't want to come here. The prick in front of him hates anyone who is incompetent but uses the connection to get a higher position like him, which is the majority of the people who are working here.
"Please get to the point, Royal Police Section Chief, I need to rest, I still need to work tomorrow." Said the chief royal court mage.
The police section chief didn't say anything to retort. He begins to narrate about his encounter with Daniel who he had perceived as a mage and an Artificer. He knows that mages who are in high positions usually have some means to detect the lies so he didn't bother with lying to make himself look good.
Then when he told the mage chief about how his mind was read and he saw a dark aura from the mage's hand. The calm demeanor of the chief mage immediately changed, he quickly raised his hand signaling the police section chief to stop.
"Wait, You said you got your mind read but it was still intact?" The chief mage asks in skepticism.
"Yes…" The police chief officer nodded and then continued. "I felt something invading my mind, dulling my feelings, and after that, he didn't ask the question he wanted to know again. Seems like he was satisfied with the answer he got. Maybe…"
"Or he has no choice but to let you go because he can't find anything useful within your brain. Well… maybe this time your incompetent was a blessing in disguise, police section chief."
The chief mage interrupted which caused the police section chief anger to rise within his eyes but it was short-lived as it immediately disappeared the moment it showed in his eyes.
"What do you mean?" the police section chief asks.
The chief mage let out a sarcastic smile as he looked at the police section chief.
"This… This is what I call a blessing in disguise. Do you know about the first rule on page 1 of the standard operating manual for the personnel who have the clearance to know about the curtain world?" The mage chief asks.
The police section chief didn't answer, he could only shake under the scrutinizing gaze of the chief mage as he didn't know what the mage was talking about. Was there a manual about that?
The mage chief didn't wait for the police section chief to answer and continue his rant.
"It was a standard procedure manual for anyone who has enough clearance to know about the curtain world. It's comparable to the manual on how to use your toilet. If you don't even know about this.
I expect you wouldn't know much about other topics, such as the notable mage in support of the royal family, the top most influential mage clan in the Tessia kingdom, or even the branch of the Hightower, the structure of the defensive magic circle, the royal palace defensive magic field… etcetera."
"This is why I call it the blessing in disguise that you didn't know about these sensitive pieces of information." Said the chief mage with a smile, but this time it was a genuine relief smile, not the usual sarcastic and contemptuous smile the chief mage usually shows to the incompetent.
The police section chief didn't know what to say back in this situation, because he didn't like what the chief mage said, but the sincerity in that relieved smile was so genuine. Should he be proud of his incompetence?
pαndα`noνɐ1--сoМ "But then again... the artificer who could build a very small golem like the metal scarab and has a very high mastery of dark magic, enough to leave the victim's brain intact after reading their mind? This guy might be too dangerous for…"
The chief mage paused when he saw that the stone gargoyle he had hung to the wall was moving a little and had a strange glint in its ruby eyes.
