Vol. 10 - Chapter 504 - Fighting ghosts (1)

He could already see many strange beings approaching with Kuwatoro\'s [Thousand-mile Eyes].

"Yes, there\'s at least 2000 of them!!"

The warden that just returned from the foggy forest replied, which made everyone else get pale. They were dreading having to fight the ghosts coming from the ghost swarm.

"At least we have some assistance right in time though." "They\'re just a couple dozen, will it really make a big difference?" "But they\'re the people who crossed the Gate of Judgement."

As everyone heard who Allen and the rest were, they looked at them with high expectations.

"Err…alright."

(So we\'re defending a fort, it\'s been a while, though the wardens don\'t look very confident. I\'ll have Kuwatoro verify the number of enemies again…and we only have around 5 minutes left.)

Allen quickly entered battle mode, regardless of the wardens\' weak morale. First he examined the fort. It was 10 meters tall and made of wood, but it did not look very resilient.

The forts in the Central Continent were 30 meters tall, and in Rosenheim 50. But getting enough materials seemed hard here in the divine realm. Even the wooden barrier around the forest with the ghost swarm did not offer full protection from monsters. There was not enough for Sophie to build up better walls though, the enemy was too close.

"...Just make sure me and Admiral Galara can join whatever strategy you\'re thinking of."

Helmios told Allen while he planned.

"Hmm, yes, I guess Allen can take care of planning."

Galara agreed to it. There was little time so he would just go with Allen\'s idea. No one in the three parties had any issue with Allen\'s plans most of the time, as he had continued to prove himself since they conquered the S Rank Dungeon together.

"Thank you, I\'ll make sure to consider all of your strengths in the plan then."

Some time later Abigayle approached Allen again.

"Allen, was it? We\'re getting ready to fight, what are you guys\' plan?"

Abigayle had a good spot for them on the fort\'s rooftop if they wanted to help with defending.

"We\'ll go to the ground to fight the ghosts. You can keep the fort safe."

Allen looked at a clearing further ahead in the forest.

"Wha-?! You\'ll give up an advantage in terrain?!!"

Abigayle could not believe they would give up the advantage of having a fort.

(I don\'t think this fort counts as much of an advantage. And I doubt the wardens are strong.)

Allen had already Appraised Katakuchi and Abigayle, and neither of them were strong enough.

[Name] Katakuchi [Race] Dragonkin [Age] 20 [Talent] Spearman [Strength] 528 + 300 [Mana] 0 [Spiritual Power] 280 [Attack] 784 + 300 [Endurance] 660 [Agility] 772 [Intelligence] 423 [Luck] 521 [Attack Element] None [Endurance Element] None

[Name] Abigayle [Race] Dragonkin [Age] 36 [Talent] Mace Saint [Strength] 1461 + 900 [Mana] 0 [Spiritual Power] 860 [Attack] 2080 + 900 [Endurance] 1471 + 900 [Agility] 2080 + 900 [Intelligence] 902 [Luck] 912 [Attack Element] None [Endurance Element] None

[Appraiser Eyes] could not show Levels, but it was obvious their Skills were not maxed out. Their equipment was at best made of mythril too, making it dubious whether the wardens could fight B Rank monsters, or A Rank for Abigayle. They were far better suited as a rear line.

"Just take care of anything that gets past us, we\'ll fight ahead."

Allen smiled as he said that.

"Alright. Don\'t push yourselves too hard though."

Abigayle reminded them they could always return to the for if things got tight.

"Thank you. Also one last thing, it\'s a bit important."

"Hm? What is it?"

Abigayle looked nervous hearing there was more.

"My Talent is Summoner. I\'ll be using a lot of summons in a bit, so tell the other wardens to not attack them."

"Sum…moner?"

It was the first time he heard that word.

(Come out, Orochis. Cover all of our blindspots.)

\'Got it Master!! Graaaaaaaaaaaarrrr!!\'

"Wha-?!"

The wardens became frozen with fear when they saw a Dragon A summon under Kingship, which was 300 meters tall so its 5 heads towered above the fort. The 10 Dragon A summons and 10 Insect A summons caused even more fear, as the wardens started shouting in desperation. They were so scared that they could not even attack.

"The summons will take care of things here, let\'s go below now. Kuwatoro, use Floating Wings."

\'Yes, wings of freedom for everyone!!\'

Kuwatoro used the Skill [Floating Wings] onto all parties, giving them 10000 Agility and the ability to fly.

(Floating Wings needs Mana, so I\'ll have to make sure I manage that properly.)

While Floating Wings was active it used 1 Mana per second. Everyone in the parties had thousands of Mana, but it could go low if they used many Skills.

"Helmios, our parties will go to the front, and Admiral Galara\'s will attack from range behind us."

The golems were equipped to attack from afar, including Merle\'s. Anyone else with range attacks like Sophie, Formar, Cecile, and Kiel also went to the rear lines.

"They\'re hereeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!"

Abigayle shouted from the fort. The fog was too thick to see much, so it was like many ghosts suddenly appeared in front of them, but Allen had already known they were there with [Thousand-mile Eyes]. The ghosts had many shapes, some looking like humanoid figures, plants, stones, or animals. They were mostly around 3 to 5 meters tall.

"Kill all of them! Dogora, Shea, Ignomas, charge ahead! Kurena you stay back a little since you\'re still Level 1."

Allen told his frontline to go fight.

(They\'re weak mobs. They might have some special attacks though, I can\'t see their Skills.)

[Name] None [Age] 860 [Species] Soul Eater [Strength] 2000 [Mana] 0 [Spiritual Power] 420 [Attack] 2700 [Endurance] 1000 [Agility] 2400 [Intelligence] 2000 [Luck] 0 [Attack Element] Ice [Endurance Element] Water, Ice, Physical Resistance

Allen Appraised one of the ghosts. The stats were those of a B Rank monster. It looked like a ghastly pitcher plant, around 3 meters tall.

"Alright!! Let\'s go Freya!!"

Dogora spoke to his partner Freya.

\'We\'re hunting ghosts, yes? Let\'s show them a taste of our flames!!\'

(Hm? Somehow Freya sounds like she\'s really into it this time.)

The Divine Artifact Kagutsuchi began glowing red, channeling Freya\'s fire into the axe.

"Raaahhhhhh!!"

\'HhhhhHHHHH?!\'

Dogora\'s attack split the ghost in two, dispersing it like mist.

\'You defeated 1 Soul Eater. You obtained 3000 Experience. You obtained 3000 Faith. You obtained 300 Spiritual Power. You obtained 300 Divine Power.\'

(Oh? I got a lot of things, I guess Faith is for Haku?)

So far they always got Experience only when defeating monsters, but ghosts gave more. And just like Merus had told them before, they were gaining Spiritual Power. Haku also gained Faith and Divine Power points.

\'Ohhh…You\'re doing well, so well!! Go on, my apostle Dogora! Hunt more for me!!\'

"Huh? Oh, sure…"

(So even the gods of this world get excited over experience.)

Freya\'s voice was clearly exhilarated, which seemed to confuse Dogora. That reminded Allen of how sometimes hunting some monsters could feel really exciting in games, especially when they gave a lot of Experience. The ghosts kept coming one after another, Allen had spotted 5000 with [Thousand-mile Eyes].

"Alright, the rear line and golems can start firing now!"

Using the Bird F summon\'s Special Skill [Transmission] Allen told the rear line what to do. It was the best way to communicate in the battlefield.

All three parties started attacking, the golems producing loud explosions. Allen\'s Grimoire was flooded with logs of defeated enemies.

(Hmm, they\'re mostly B Rank. I see bigger ones in the forest, but I guess they\'re being more careful.)

Allen was still looking into the forest with [Thousand-mile Eyes].

"Th-the enemy is being pushed back." "They\'re monsters…so this is the power of those who crossed the Gate of Judgement."

The dragonkin watched in shock as the fight continued.
