Chapter 149: Race Track-2
"Hurry! Keep your golden wings at max speed," Melissa shouted deliberately to provoke enemies if there were any in the first few kilometers.
'None.'
As the group moved swiftly through the race track, they saw ahead that a thick forest turned into a world of water, drowning all of them as they arrived underwater.
'Jeez, this is too random.'
'Well, it's a Chaos Race, and this is just the second checkpoint. The next three checkpoints will conclude swiftly, but the intensity will be far higher.'
'Stay focused. Less talk.'
The group shared a spiritual chat by connecting a single thread of their spirit force together.
The underwater landscape lasted for three kilometers before the scenery suddenly changed as they arrived in space with stars sparkling around them and a large planet to their left.
"Damn it!"
Everyone heard a roar as they turned to the right and saw Lex with a gang of twelve other Noble-order powerhouses.
This landscape nulled their invisibility since outer space was void with no air and no obstruction, making everyone able to sense and see others.
After all, this mystical race track was just five to ten kilometers wide, depending on the scenery change of a section.
But enemies were higher in number, and all of them snarled in one way or another. With their hate-filled face, they hurled their attack and control skills Chaos Gadgets at Erix and others!
'Fuck!' Erix readily teleported Rin away after grabbing her hand and appeared five kilometers away. However, four colorful lights released from four Chaos Gadgets readily followed him!
Target lock-on skills!
Melissa flew at her full speed to get away from the Chaos Gadgets as they unleashed various skills. Her face was dark because there was no shadow in Space, rendering her Shadow Drift useless.
'If only I reached 3rd realm in Darkness affinity...'
However, she was not to be outdone, as Shadow was just a part of her Darkness affinity.
She took out two Chaos gadgets and ruthlessly shot them toward Lex while flying away and barely dodging two arrow projectiles.
While the wolf beastfolks were also forced to use all their means to get away, they remained safe and ran ahead on the race track with Melissa.
Erix and Rin went furthest, but the four attacks chasing behind them were life-threatening.
The nearest attack was a three-meter-long dark purple lightning bolt, about to hit Erix in the next 1.4 seconds.
Rin popped a Chaos gadget and used an attack Chaos gadget after locking it on the dark purple lightning bolt.
*Shrooom!*
The chaos gadget transformed into a five-meter deep blue water orb with sparkling blue lights inside containing Light and Earth elemental power. It hit the dark purple arrow and blasted into a colorful display of spectacle.
But it was not over as the blue lights within the orb intensely glowed as they transformed into shiny white crystals after the orb clashed with the lightning bolt and sprayed a blanket of white lasers in the direction of the lightning bolt.
The blanket of powerful white lasers struck other attacks and nullified two of them by activating their effects prematurely due to impact with lasers.
'Awesome, babe!' Erix laughed.
'We still have one more after us,' Rin said as she looked at a dark blue arrow with a golden spiraling energy around it and an arc of dark blue flame above its tip.
'Don't use a defensive skill,' Erix quickly said before he teleported one kilometer further to buy another second and tried out his experiment while still keeping a defensive skill chaos gadget in his hand.
'Disappear!' Erix focused on the arrow as his mana bubbled, turning into space matter while Erix's eyes glowed silver.
The incoming arrow suddenly blurred as Erix targeted it by locking on its space with his Space Mapping and guiding his power directly to it to send the attack into Space Limbo!
*Blink!*
The arrow blurred and then disappeared.
"Woah, what did you do?!" Rin asked, startled. She clearly saw the arrow vanishing abruptly but also saw the space around it visibly get slightly wobbly for less than a second.
'I thought that since I can sense and access Space Limbo, I should be able to send something there as well, so....why not try to send attacks there?' Erix laughed. 'That would be the best defense.'
However, his laugh soon turned bitter. 'But there's a big problem.'
Erix teleported with Rin one kilometer away again and continued flying.
'Big problem? Is it cost?'
'Yep. I knew I shouldn't spare any cost to try this, so I consumed 2000 mana and turned it into Space Matter before trying out this move, but when the arrow vanished into Space Limbo...'
'Come on, tell me how much was consumed?'
'One thousand eight hundred fifty...'
Rin laughed. 'That's impractical. But you can use it against superpowerful attacks that we are not sure we can defend against.'
'Nope. From what I sensed, the consumption of Space Matter is based on the potency of the phenomenon I send into Space Limbo. So, that arrow consumed 1850 mana, but other attacks should cost less.'
'I see... How about you make this skill a bit crooked? Instead of sending the entire attack, you can send a part of it to make it less powerful in some cases and entirely activate them early in other cases.'
'That's worth trying. But we have to keep running and escaping for now without consuming mana.'
'I still have my mana, so leave the obstacles to me,' Rin said as she swung her sword and killed a chaos monster that suddenly appeared before them in this lava-filled landscape with volcanos bursting.
While Rin and Erix were ahead, Melissa was closely behind them with the wolf beastolks. Erix was also helping Beastfolks with wormholes to help them kill chaos monsters that were popping out of nowhere.
Lex and the others were not giving up and were after the group.
"CATCH UP TO THEM, YOU BUNCH OF TRASH!"
Lex shouted with red eyes!
