Chapter 12 - 12 Nameless Constable
Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Nameless Constable
On the card, adorned with intricate patterns, stood a man wearing dark constable attire with a long saber slung at his waist, his lips slightly upturned in a mysterious smile. Behind him was Loushan City under the moonlight...
Just from the illustration alone, this nameless character card seemed quite cool.
"But how is it that the Blood Demon Path hates me, and the Tianyuan Dynasty too?"
Li Muyang watched speechlessly at the faction reputation on the character card, unable to comprehend where this hatred had come from.
He had clearly done a great favor for the Tianyuan Dynasty, and while it was one thing for the court not to thank him, it was another that they even hated him.
"No wonder the dynasty is in its final years, one glance and it's obvious that the court is full of decayed wood officials, and the palace is plagued by beasts feeding on the state's stipends, not a single normal person."
"I helped you, and yet I still get remembered for hatred... Tsk..."
"But what exactly is this Invincible Army?"
Li Muyang looked puzzled at the faction reputation on the character card, not recalling any such power that had emerged in Loushan City.
Could it be that rotund General Wu?
As he watched the character card disappear from his field of vision, entering into the compendium, Li Muyang realized that he had viewed all the settlement content.
In the center of the grand scroll that unfolded, a cloud maelstrom slowly rotated, and within the eye of the storm floated a few large characters.
[Searching for Immortal Maiden...]
As an experienced gamer, Li Muyang had by now roughly understood the logic behind this game system.
It would search for different scenarios, generate various characters for Li Muyang to challenge, and upon successful completion, award different rewards.
While the interface looked much like a mobile game, it lacked a pay-to-win button, nor did it have a shop interface.
In the upper right corner was the character attribute [Li Muyang: Qi Refining Second Layer (12%)].
This digitized experience bar was more or less representative of Li Muyang's current cultivation realm, with a long way to go before reaching the third layer of Qi Refining.
Below the experience bar was the character compendium, but right now, Li Muyang only had one character card, [Nameless]. Clearly, he would have to pass other challenges in the game before obtaining new character cards.
He did not know, however, what use these character cards served.
After glancing over the updated system interface, Li Muyang yawned and opened his eyes.
After pulling two all-nighters in a row, he was extremely sleepy, feeling that he could fall asleep the moment he laid down.
But the sky was already bright outside, and the sound of Guan Xiaoshun, from the neighboring courtyard, fetching water and washing up could be heard; it was no longer early.
Even though Li Muyang was so tired he wanted to sleep, he had no choice but to muster his energy to get up, continuing today's task of sheep herding.
After quickly washing up, Li Muyang stepped out the door.
Before leaving the hut, he glanced at the grimy wooden cabinet that housed the two pounds of Spirit Rice he had just stashed away.
But being a pauper who could barely keep the pot boiling, he didn't have to worry about anyone stealing his rice.
Right now, all Li Muyang could think about was finishing work quickly and coming back in the evening to cook and eat.
The cooked Spirit Rice might be more fragrant; he was looking forward to what top-grade Spirit Rice might taste like.
This game system indeed provided outstanding support, giving away top-grade Spirit Rice so casually.
Yet, it seemed a bit too supportive.
Even if he couldn't finish the premium top-grade Spirit Rice, Li Muyang wouldn't dare to sell it.
If such Spirit Rice appeared on the external market, a pound or two might go unnoticed, but if more appeared, it would undoubtedly attract attention.
Even the Elders of the Sect would be tempted to hear of such a marvelous item as the Endless Spirit Rice Jar.
If word were to leak out, Li Muyang would not be able to keep it safe.
The order and justice within a Demon Sect like Refinement Demon Sect was like Cyber Bodhisattva's panties, not to say it didn't exist, but quite often, a light tug would have them falling off.
If Li Muyang wanted to live a peaceful life, he had to be careful to keep the secret of the Spirit Rice jar.
Yawning as he stepped out the door, Li Muyang was in high spirits as he went to get the Magic Artifact and an identity token. He then hurriedly herded a group of bipedal sheep into the mountains.
In the valley where the blood mist drifted, after herding all the bipedal sheep inside, Li Muyang simply collapsed and fell asleep on the side of the road.
The air was filled with a pungent stench of blood, but Li Muyang slept soundly.
This was the first time since his arrival in this world that Li Muyang had slept so soundly.
Because at last, he saw hope for changing his life.
...
In the distant Blood Mist Valley, while Li Muyang was soundly asleep in the mist.
The setting sun's afterglow fell upon the mountain path outside Loushan City.
A carriage loaded with vegetables and fruits traveled along the rugged mountain road.
The coachman's song, filled with a northwestern accent, echoed through the mountains.
Suddenly, the constable inside the carriage compartment, who was resting with his eyes closed, abruptly opened his eyes.
The next second, the constable leaped up and jumped off the carriage.
The dark attire of the constable unfolded in the night breeze; the previously silent officer suddenly abandoned the carriage and started to run along the mountain path.
This sudden movement startled the coachman.
"Eh? Constable!"
The coachman instinctively wanted to call out to hold him back, but the constable's figure was as fast as lightning.
After taking a single step, he would suddenly appear tens of feet away in the next second.
Such ghostly movement technique, which shrank the earth into inches, caused the coachman's eyes to widen in shock.
"God... Immortal?"
This kind of movement technique, where one step would take one tens of feet away, was exactly like what the storytellers described about Shrinking Earth Into Inches!
The coachman's eyes bulged and his mouth hung open; he was momentarily at a loss for words.
Meanwhile, the constable who had left the carriage moved like a ghost along the mountain path, his figure flickering every three seconds, and after several consecutive flickers, he climbed to the end of the rugged mountain path and saw the inn at the top.
The old inn with a Horse Post Pavilion sign, silently stood among the mountains.
Under the sunset, the inn was coated in a layer of dark, blood-red light, appearing eerily uncanny.
The constable stood by the roadside and lightly exhaled a breath, then put on a smile, placed his hand on his waist saber, and walked towards the inn, nonchalantly pushing open its large doors.
In the quiet inn lobby, an immortal in green clothes sat, carrying a Glazed Fairy Sword on her back.
Sundry travelers from the jianghu were scattered about, apparently unacquainted with each other.
However, the moment the constable stepped into the inn, everyone's gaze fell on him.
A few of the jianghu travelers exchanged a look without changing their expressions.
The warmly welcoming innkeeper came forward with a beaming smile.
"Guest, may I ask if you want to take a break here, or stay for the night..."
However, before the innkeeper could finish, the constable—like an unwelcome intruder who had suddenly burst into the inn—bypassed him and walked straight towards the Glazed Fairy Sword-carrying immortal in the center of the lobby.
In an instant, all eyes within the inn focused on the constable known as Nameless.
Amidst these ambiguous stares, the constable directly approached the Glass Immortal Maiden and extended his right hand, wearing a smile as he made a sudden and impolite request.
"Immortal, may I borrow your Immortal Sword for a moment?"
