Chapter 269: Annihilation
Despite the fact that he was labeled a criminal and wanted by the Azures Continent, no one made an immediate move to capture him. They were too busy dealing with the Elemental Beast Tide, and it would be stupid to get rid of a capable helper.
Some people started to think that the rumors about William weren\'t true. After all, why would he risk his life to fight the Beast Tide when he was the one that started it? It didn\'t make sense.
William was surrounded on all sides by a group of eight Nascent Soul Sandicores, so he swapped to a two-meter-long wooden staff known as a quarterstaff, then extended it to twice the size and knocked all the Sandicores back with a single sweeping motion.
He then swapped to a spear, using his incredible strength and the spear\'s piercing power to target each Sandicore individually with precise attacks, poking holes through their thick hide. The first strike severely injured the Sandicores, and the follow-up attacks were more than enough to finish them off.
William felt odd not seeing Potential Points added to his balance after every kill, but the System was still completely silent and hadn\'t said anything since the last message it issued. He hoped that he would still earn Points for this fight.
Carl and the others joined up with William at some point, not daring to battle with Golden Core and above enemies alone. Each of them used their strongest abilities immediately, hoping to keep up with William at least a little bit.
Carl released all of his summons at once, using half of them for defense and the other half for offense, while Gunther focused his Ice Magic on creating a massive wall to block off the enemies from behind.
Tia stood close to Charlotte and protected her along with one of Carl\'s summons, punching away anything that dared to come close. Of course, her strength wasn\'t enough to match the Nascent Soul Beasts, but William took care of those before they came close to anyone.
Filipe\'s visual abilities had improved greatly since William had left the Sect, so he removed his contacts to perform a wide-range mental attack that disrupted the attacks of over a dozen Desert Beetles simultaneously.
Yuming was just behind him, throwing acidic potions he had brewed at the disoriented foes, melting their skin and causing them to roar in pain. He then created a series of Fireballs to simply throw at the Beetles, finishing off the entire group in just a few seconds.
Two hours passed, and the number of Golden Core Magical Beasts was reduced from twenty to about fifteen thousand, almost three thousand of which were killed by William alone, despite there being more than double the amount of volunteers compared to the last Beast Tide.
He would have killed many more if he had access to his Elements.
Regardless, he was completely unstoppable on the battlefield. Even while restricting his physical strength and speed to the beginning of the Soul Formation Realm, William killed every enemy in a single strike, usually multiple enemies in less than a second.
One strike of the spear, one slash of the sword, one arrow. Every move was swift and fluid, and every attack hit William\'s targeted area, killing them instantly even when he didn\'t target their weaknesses.
Over time, he identified each Magical Beast\'s weak points, informing his friends while switching out the Abyssal Weapon Shifter for his Starmetal Bow for the remainder of the battle.
He used the bow\'s enhanced speed and his own to fire dozens of arrows a second, taking the initiative to use up some of the poison from the Gravitas Ruins Trials.
This is why it\'s good to be a hoarder! I always have whatever I need! William smirked for a second, before realizing that no one could hear or respond to his thoughts right now.
For some reason, it made him feel a little sad and lonely. Even though he was used to being by himself, William always had the System so he was never truly alone. Despite how often the System questioned his behavior, he had always enjoyed its company.
With that thought, William felt his Elements slowly becoming active, close to fully recovering from the Chaos upgrade. The Life Element had already recovered, and the Blessing Element seemed the next closest to returning.
I\'m already wanted, what\'s the point in hiding my Elements? William thought as he cast his first Blessing Spell the moment it recovered.
The Blessing Domain was opened within a range of five hundred meters, enveloping himself, all of his friends, a few hundred Magical Beasts, and a few dozen nearby allies. William directed the Blessing Mana to boost the strength and speed of friends, while the Magical Beasts were ignored.
Everyone affected by the Blessing Domain felt their strength and speed triple, causing a few unprepared Cultivators to trip and fall over. Carl, Tia, Filipe, Yuming, and Gunther felt like they could compete with the Nascent Soul Beasts now, and even Charlotte felt a large improvement to her physical abilities.
The other allies\' morale was also boosted, seeing the horde of enemies quickly pushed back by the buffed Cultivators. They, among many Players, rushed forward into the Blessing Domain, hoping to use William\'s buffs to kill more Beasts than everyone else.
The Blessing Domain remained open while William fought, secretly raising his strength to the middle stages of the Soul Formation Realm while making it look like it was the effects of the Domain.
The speed at which he fired arrows greatly increased, turning William into a literal gatling gun as waves of Magical Beasts were effectively torn apart by the high-powered arrows. The Magical Beasts became nervous and tried to keep their distance, but William\'s sniping ability was nearly unmatched when buffed by the A-Rank Mythic Weapons Talent.
His body rotated like sprinkler as arrows shot into the open jaws of roaring Beasts, leaving his allies in awe at his strength and ability. William\'s skill with archery put many to shame, making the other archers want to put away their bows so they wouldn\'t feel embarrassed.
William\'s Illusion and Death Affinities returned next, but he didn\'t plan to change his identity in front of everyone, nor did he want to show off too many new Elements at once. He continued firing off arrows, counting off the number of kills in his mind as if he were the System counting out Potential Points.
50, 51, 52... 53 54 55, 56. Man this is boring... I\'m sorry System.
William apologized for always making the System count. Not only did it have to count out the number of Magical Beasts he killed, it also kept track of how many Potential Points each Beast was worth, whether or not it was the first time he killed a Beast, and even added progress to his Titles.
If he factored in the Bestiary data, William realized that the System always had a lot to do. No wonder it became overwhelmed when William was upgrading his Chaos Element while undergoing a Tribulation. It couldn\'t handle everything at once!
That made William wonder something interesting. Was he really deemed not worthy, or was the System too weak to give him every ability right from the very beginning?
He knew he didn\'t exactly use common sense all the time, but if the System truly didn\'t think he was worthy, it should have picked someone else to be its Host. Why him?
He liked to think it was actually the second option, that the System didn\'t give him full access not because it didn\'t want to, but because it couldn\'t. Was it a rule it had to follow, was it a choice it had made, or was it something else?
Was there something even more powerful than the System telling it what it could or couldn\'t do, or were these self-created rules it wanted to follow because it was bored and wanted a challenge?
The questions piled up one by one, but with William\'s Mind Talent, he was able to come to a few conclusions that seemed more likely than the rest. His thoughts flowed quickly as he used what he knew about the System already, comparing it to the gaps he had yet to fill.
There were a lot of information gaps, but one question ran rampant through William\'s mind.
Did something happen to the System before it chose him as the Host?
