Chapter 610: Extra 023 Encounter in the restaurant, marriage proposal scene (second update)
It’s not that he’d intentionally remembered Mu Cidian’s birthday, but there was a time when classmates would celebrate their birthdays together. A few girls who shared the same birthday month with Mu Cidian happened to be particularly excited, one of them his desk mate. Somehow, he unknowingly memorized the date.
Xin Zaozao’s eyes flickered slightly.
She too didn’t want to remember Mu Cidian’s birthday, evidently forgetting that today was his special day.
But now that it has been mentioned… the memory came rushing back.
Was the message Mu Cidian sent her the night before about…
It probably wasn’t.
He most likely was asking if she was returning, considering she was the chief financier. If she was coming back, he would have to accompany her, but if she didn’t, he could spend the day with his mother.
Regardless, it’s been quite a while since she last saw Wan Quan. She almost forgot that this woman still existed.
“Chairwoman Xin?” Song Lifei called out.
She was spacing out.
Xin Zaozao turned to look at him.
“Are you not hungry yet?” Song Lifei asked with a smile.
Song Lifei didn’t understand why Xin Zaozao seemed to be in such a rush. If they had returned tomorrow, their schedule would be less tight. It didn’t appear that the company had any urgent matters that needed immediate attention, but since Xin Zaozao was the boss, he would, of course, obey her instructions.
They’d arrived just in time for dinner.
He invited Xin Zaozao to dine with him.
In fact, even without her prior consent, he’d already reserved a table when he was overseas.
Xin Zaozao found it hard to refuse.
Having already informed Mu Cidian the night before that she wouldn’t be returning, agreeing to dine with Song Lifei was more of an excuse for her to prevent showing up at Mu Cidian’s place at an awkward timing.
Seems like.
She thought too much.
Mu Cidian wasn’t always waiting for her at home.
She and Song Lifei headed towards a corner.
They sat across each other.
Song Lifei seemed a little nervous.
They often dined together, but he never behaved this way.
Xin Zaozao had the feeling that Song Lifei was hiding something.
Reflecting back, when she agreed to have dinner together, Song Lifei seemed to have breathed a sigh of relief.
In her haste, Xin Zaozao was a bit exhausted. So, for matters that didn’t require deep thought, she chose not to analyze too much.
She waited for dinner.
Looking forward to finishing early so she could go back and rest.
At the same location, but in a different corner.
Mu Cidian returned to his seat.
Wan Quan was surprised, “You’re back so soon?”
Mu Cidian subtly nodded as he leaned over to his mother’s ear, “It’s getting late. Shall we go home early?”
“What time is it?” Wan Quan looked surprised.
Going home at such an early hour? She wasn’t satisfied yet, she hadn’t flaunted enough.
“I have to work tomorrow…”
“No problem, no problem, it’s your birthday, a special occasion. I’m sure your boss would understand,” Wan Quan dismissively said.
The other three women chimed in, “Exactly, is taking a day off for a birthday not allowed? And look at the time, it’s still so early! Aren’t you a bit worried that we might eat up all your food?”
After saying that, they all laughed.
Wan Quan couldn’t tolerate the mockery, she hastily retorted, “Look how sour you all are. This little expense is nothing to our Cidian. Waiter!”
She signaled with her hand.
The waiter approached, bent over respectfully, and said, “Madam.”
“Italian desserts, your signature small cakes, one for each of us.”
“Yes, Madam.”
“And Tiramisu ice cream, one for each.”
“Yes, Madam.”
“That should be all, get it ready.”
“Yes, Madam.”
The waiter was extremely respectful.
No ordinary restaurant would offer such service.
The three women across the table couldn’t hide their envious glances.
Wan Quan was very pleased with herself, “The desserts I just ordered are prepared by a Michelin-starred chef right here in this restaurant. You can’t find them anywhere else. They’re simply indescribable. The only downside is…we might have to wait a bit.”
“Waiting for such wonderful things is no big deal! Wan Quan, I’ve really learned a lot from you this time,” Aunt Lin flattered.
“Nonsense. In the future, whenever my son comes back, I will ask him to bring you to eat here frequently.”
“We’ll have to thank Xiaomu then.”
Mu Cidian politely endured the pleasantries.
He turned his head towards another direction, from where he was seated, he could see Xin Zaozao, who was quietly eating steak with her head down.
Honestly, he wasn’t bothered by Xin Zaozao having dinner with Song Lifei.
What he was worried about was his mother meeting Xin Zaozao.
He had no idea what could happen if they encountered each other.
He maintained his silence.
Waiting for his mother’s ordered desserts.
Wan Quan was in a good mood today, continuously chatting with the three ladies in front of her, boasting non-stop.
Suddenly.
The light in the hall, which was already fairly dim, became even darker.
However, each table had a small light, so that all guests could still dine.
A few ladies were surprised by the sudden darkness in the restaurant, “Why did the lights go off all of a sudden. Are they closing?”
“You wouldn’t understand.” Wan Quan, acting like she knew it all, explained, “This is the best place in Jin City, in other words, it’s the preferred dining location for upper-class couples. When the lights dim like this, it implies a marriage proposal.”
“You knew about this?” Aunt Fang was surprised.
Before Wan Quan could respond.
The sound of violins started playing from a corner of the restaurant, followed by a man who knelt down in front of a woman.
Aunt Lin looked over there and admired Wan Quan, “Wan Quan, you really do know everything. I thought you were just boasting about all the things you’ve claimed to have done and used, now I realize you really are an upper-class lady.”
Wan Quan smiled triumphantly.
She was finally able to hold her head high amongst these ladies who used to look down upon her with disdain!
Following everyone’s gaze, she glanced at the spectacle.
At that glance, her facial expression changed all at once.
Mu Cidian noticed his mother’s gaze too.
Wan Quan sneered, “It’s that slut Xin Zaozao.”
“You know her?” Aunt Wang asked.
“More than knowing, I could recognize her even if she turns into ash.”
“Do you two have grudges?” Women usually love gossip. Aunt Lin asked eagerly.
“That wretched woman, besides seducing men and sleeping her way to the top, what capabilities does she have! One day, I must ruin her.” Wan Quan gnashed her teeth, her hatred for Xin Zaozao was evident for all to see.
“Is she a mistress?” Aunt Wang asked hurriedly, “She’s very beautiful.”
“Could she play the harlot without being attractive?” Wan Quan said with disgust.
“That’s true.” Aunt Wang quickly agreed, “I mean such a woman, there are still men who like her?”
“Isn’t that due to her cunning tactics?” Wan Quan scoffed, “I was also fooled in the beginning, had I known about her abilities earlier, she wouldn’t be enjoying the limelight now!”
“What exactly happened between you two?” Aunt Fang asked curiously.
“It’s too much to explain in a while. In short… she and I are adversaries!”
Mu Cidian swallowed.
“The way you’re talking now makes me more curious about what exactly happened between you two? I see her being quite successful now, the man proposing her seems to be a refined gentleman…” Aunt Lin continuously spoke while maintaining her gaze on the proceedings.
Wan Quan turned to look again, coldly saying, “What else can that slut do except seduce men…”
Mu Cidian stopped her, “Enough, Mother.”
Wan Quan looked at Mu Cidian.
Mu Cidian said, “It’s late, I’ll go and pay the bill.”
“Mu Cidian!”
Mu Cidian had already stood up and left.
The three women watched Mu Cidian’s retreating figure, then turned to Wan Quan, “Isn’t the dessert still not served?”
Wan Quan’s expression was unpleasant at this moment.
Her previous joy and pride fleshly replaced with annoyance.
Whenever Xin Zaozao was in the picture, Mu Cidian seemed to become a different person.
After all these years, could it be that he still had feelings for Xin Zaozao?!
Just entertaining this possibility.
Wan Quan was no longer composed.
She abruptly stood up and headed towards Xin Zaozao’s table.
At this point.
Xin Zaozao was contemplating how to reject Song Lifei.
She had never imagined that Song Lifei would propose all of a sudden.
They hadn’t even talked about love yet, and now Song Lifei was proposing.
How should she decline, to minimize the hurt inflicted upon Song Lifei?!
