Chapter 126 - 126: I hope you won’t be disappointed again.

“I’ll go with you!”

In the elevator, Gu Kai frowned in discontent, stepping out of the elevator to follow MO Xiuchen to the stairs, grumbling, “Even if you’re going to visit Wen Ran, you can still take the elevator.” MO Xiuchen gave him a glance, “Going up and down by elevator?”

“So what? This hospital is mine anyway.”

Gu Kai retorted confidently. He had been standing in the operating room all day and was really tired, unlike MO Xiuchen, the future CEO of MS Group, who sat in a cosy office all day.

MO Xiuchen snorted dismissively and didn’t bother to engage him any further.

He walked elegantly towards the stairs, leaving Gu Kai muttering to himself. He then changed the subject, “On a serious note, I don’t think Cheng Jia is a kind woman. You just said she is two-faced, so you better be careful what she says to Wen Ran.”

MO Xiuchen halted, his towering figure standing at the stairwell’s corner. Squinting at Gu Kai, he counter-questioned, “Why are you so concerned about

Wen Ran?”

Gu Kai grimaced and replied irritably, “It’s all because of you that I care about Wen Ran. Or would you rather I help Cheng Jia sabotage your relationship with wen Ran?”

MO Xiuchen looked at him solemnly for a while before speaking, “Ah Kai, maybe Wen Ran really isn’t the little girl who saved me back then. My feelings for her, it seems, were love at first sight.”

Gu Kai’s expression changed drastically, disbelief apparent in his voice, “Xiuchen, what do you mean? It was you who initially said that Wen Ran reminded you of the girl who saved you. Now, you’re saying that’s not the case? Are you planning to give up on investigating Cheng Jia and admit that she is your savior?”

MO Xiuchen shook his head, his handsome features appearing melancholy in the dim stairwell light, “No, I just don’t want you to be disappointed again.”

At his words, Gu Kai’s handsome face paled, his features instantly turning icy. His hands balled into fists in his lab coat pockets, as if suppressing some emotion.

MO Xiuchen was reminding him not to fixate on the idea that Wen Ran was the girl who saved him back then, in the hope that she might be his missing sister. Over the years, he had experienced disappointment after disappointment alongside him.

When Cheng Jia first appeared, Gu Kai was happier than MO Xiuchen, hoping she might be his long-lost sister. Yet the DNA test results led to another disappointment.

Seeing his close friend in quiet agony, MO Xiuchen heaved a sigh and suggested, “If you think that way, you might as well do it like you did it last time…”

“No need!”

Gu Kai interrupted MO Xiuchen, tightening his lips. The color drained from his eyes, quickly replaced by his usual noble elegance. He grinned, “Were we not supposed to find Wen Ran? Let’s go!”

Wen Ran sat before the sickbed, leaning slightly forward as she looked at Wen Jin.

On the bed, Wen Jin caressed the tender pink scar on her cheek, his eyes filled with indulgence and concern.

“Brother, I’ve told you this won’t leave a scar. Now that it’s healed, are you reassured?”

Wen Ran said with a cheeky smile. The wound on her face healed quickly. The tender flesh was changing color by the day, and soon, it would be impossible to see any mark.

“Yes, now I can rest easy. I was worried that if a scar was left on your face, MO Xiuchen might not want you anymore.”

Wen Jin teased. Wen Ran pouted in annoyance, “What kind of brother wishes for such terrible things for their sister? MO Xiuchen isn’t the kind of superficial

man who judges people by their appearances.”

“You’ve only just married him, and yet you’re already defending him?”

A flicker of emotion passed through Wen Jin’s eyes. He joked, “I don’t know who it was just a moment ago lacking in confidence, thinking Cheng Jia is his savior and that he couldn’t possibly be completely indifferent toward her.” “Brother, if I had known, I would not have told you any of this.”

Wen Ran whined at him. She had just come down from the floor above and hadn’t had a chance to control her emotions, so Wen Jin saw right through her. He questioned her, and she impulsively revealed her conversation with Cheng Jia.

Wen Jin laughed lightly, “Well, I won’t talk about you. There’s no need for you to be bothered about Cheng Jia. This is MO Xiuchen’s ‘romance’ debt. Let him handle it himself and don’t visit her again in the future.”

Wen Ran snorted, “Of course, I won’t. At least not until after her wounds have healed. Otherwise, if something happens to her, I won’t be able to shoulder the responsibility.”

If Cheng Jia hadn’t provoked her, she wouldn’t have taken a photo of her at her worst. Who knows what Cheng Jia will say to MO Xiuchen now?

Wen Jin nodded, “That’s right. You have no reason to get angry over unimportant people. Once MO Xiuchen sees the photo, he should know how he needs to act. If he ever allows you to be upset by Cheng Jia, it means he values Cheng Jia more.”

In this matter, the people involved play a decisive role. If MO Xiuchen and Cheng Jia have a dubious relationship, then the one who will be hurt is definitely Wen Ran.

As a loving elder brother, it goes without saying that Wen Jin would side with his sister and consider things from her perspective.

“Okay, I understand.”

Wen Ran smiled and nodded. Then, as if remembering something, her smile faded and she asked doubtfully, “I received a call from Zhou Lin yesterday saying she’s extending her leave by a week. Don’t you find that strange? MO Zixuan is already back, so why is she still in F City by herself?”

Wen Jin gave a light smile, nonchalantly replying, “Isn’t she pregnant? Maybe she enjoys the scenery in F City and doesn’t want to come back. She’s probably waiting for MO Zixuan to pick her up.”

Wen Ran frowned slightly and was about to say something when the door to the hospital room was opened. MO Xiuchen’s deep, warm voice came from the doorway, “Ranran!”

She turned instinctively to look.

MO Xiuchen gave her a slight smile, striding over to her. He reached out, pulling her up from the chair. “I have something to talk to you about. Come out with me.”

A look of surprise flashed across Wen Ran’s face as she turned to look at Wen

Jin. He gave her an indulgent smile, “Go on, I have a question for Doctor Gu.”

MO Xiuchen led Wen Ran out of the room, but didn’t stop there. He walked her all the way to the elevator. Seeing the grave look on his face, her first instinct was that Cheng Jia had said something to MO Xiuchen and he was here to confront her.

With that thought, her mood plummeted. Angrily, she wrenched her hand away, taking the offensive, “If you have something to say, say it here. I need to get back to the room later.”

MO Xiuchen’s hand fell empty, his deep eyes instinctively squinting as he looked at Wen Ran’s cold, pretty face. He furrowed his brows, asking softly, “Are you still angry?”

The light in Wen Ran’s eyes flickered, avoiding his piercing gaze. In fact, she wasn’t angry at Cheng Jia but was feeling uneasy because of what she had said..
