Chapter 590: I really don't feel bad for 589
“Ranran, why are you awake?”
His eyes shaded slightly and he broke into a gentle smile as he quickly walked over to the bed. Sitting by the bed, he reached out to take her soft hand, “Why didn’t you sleep a bit longer?”
She hadn’t slept during her IV drip in the morning, only lying down to sleep after the drip was removed. It hadn’t even been an hour before she woke up again.
Wen Ran didn’t speak, and merely pursed her lips slightly. When he grasped her little hand, she grew stiff for a moment.
Mo Xiuchen’s eyes narrowed as he caught her gaze, asking with concern, “What’s wrong, Ranran?”
She blinked, then suddenly flung herself into his arms, tightly clutching him with the hand he wasn’t grasping. The dreamscape from earlier still occupied her mind.
Mo Xiuchen was slightly taken aback, holding her even tighter in response.
She didn’t say anything, but he could guess what had happened. She must’ve had a nightmare.
Due to the incident last night, she was filled with self-blame and fear. Having just had a nightmare was nothing unexpected. But seeing her like this, his heart ached.
The two of them embraced in silence, neither saying a word. For a while, the only sound in the hospital room was their breathing.
After some time, Mo Xiuchen finally detached her from his hold, breaking into a gentle smile as he softly asked, “Would you like to go out for a walk and get some fresh air?”
Seemingly having recovered her composure, Wen Ran hesitated briefly before nodding in agreement, “Alright.”
The smile on Mo Xiuchen’s lips deepened as he got up to fetch an outer garment for her. As he helped her put it on, he mentioned, “We’ll just walk around the nearby area. You don’t have to change out of your hospital gown.”
Wen Ran looked at him as he helped her put on the outer garment. A warm feeling welled up inside her and the brilliant smile returned to her face. “Alright, I’ll do as you say.”
After Mo Xiuchen buttoned her garment and helped her put on shoes, he lifted her off the bed. He took hold of her hand, their fingers interweaving, and gave her a teasing look before cheerfully declaring, “Let’s go!”
Once they left the hospital, Wen Ran pointed to a street on their left and suggested, “We haven’t explored this side before. Let’s walk around this street this afternoon, see how far we get.”
Upon seeing the bustling commercial street she was pointing at, Mo Xiuchen recalled how they had eaten and explored a small food street yesterday, “As long as you aren’t exhausted, I don’t have any problems with it.”
“Can we visit each store, one-by-one?”
As they walked hand in hand, Wen Ran looked up at the handsome man beside her, a smile curling her lips. The sight of his elegant and noble demeanor stirred feelings of affection in her heart.
“Whatever you decide, I’ll accompany you.”
Looking into her radiant eyes filled with laughter, Mo Xiuchen suddenly leaned in to kiss her cheek.
“Xiuchen!”
Wen Ran’s face turned red as she cast a reproachful glance at him.
Mo Xiuchen burst into laughter, tightening slightly the hand he held hers with, and happily suggested, “Let’s go, the boutique up ahead might have some clothes you like.”
Just as they were about to reach the boutique, Wen Ran’s phone started ringing.
She let go of Mo Xiuchen’s hand to reach for her phone. Seeing the caller ID, her eyes grew warm as she gleefully announced, “It’s my brother calling.”
Mo Xiuchen only smiled and pointed at a spot a few steps away, suggesting softly, “Let’s go rest over there.”
They walked over to an outdoor cafe nearby and settled down at a table. Wen Ran answered the phone while Mo Xiuchen ordered a milk tea for her, his gaze returning to her face.
“Brother.”
Wen Ran began cheerfully. From the other end of the phone, the melodious voice of Wen Jin came through, “Ranran, what are you doing right now?”
“Xiuchen and I are shopping. Brother, it can’t be past six o’clock over there, why are you up so early?”
Wen Ran glanced at the watch on Mo Xiuchen’s wrist and nonchalantly inquired.
“Hmm, I went to bed early last night, so I woke up a little earlier today. Ranran, don’t shop for too long and tire yourself out.”
Wen Jin voiced his concern over the phone. If he hadn’t been separated by the Pacific Ocean, he would probably have flown over to see her himself.
Due to some issues at the pharmaceutical factory, he couldn’t spare the time. He was planning to fly over to her once she still didn’t return after his workstorm ended.
Laughing, Wen Ran replied, “Don’t worry, brother. Xiuchen is with me, and I won’t overexert myself. On the contrary, you should also take care not to overwork yourself. If I come back and find that you’ve lost weight, I’ll be upset.”
Although she hadn’t personally conveyed her current situation to Wen Jin, and Wen Jin didn’t ask about it during their calls, offering only words of concern, she knew that her father, Gu Yan, and Mo Xiuchen must have informed him.
She didn’t want them to worry about her, even less did she want them to be sad because of her. She acted strong and happy throughout their call.
Upon hearing her coquettish and assertive tone, Wen Jin laughed, letting a cheerful sound pass through the phone line and echo in her ears, “Same goes for you, you’re not allowed to come back thinner.”
“Alright, since you’re shopping, I won’t disturb you anymore. Be good over there and don’t misbehave.”
Wen Jin repeatedly instructed, concerned. Each time he thought of Ranran’s situation, his heart ached.
**
Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen shopped for over an hour and visited more than ten stores, but they didn’t buy much.
Most of the things they bought were for Mo Xiuchen.
Despite being on the receiving end, Mo Xiuchen didn’t refuse her gifts. She bought him two dress shirts, a pair of cufflinks, and a necktie.
She only bought a limited edition dress and an exquisite blue diamond bracelet for herself.
She reasoned that buying fewer things would result in less hardship for Mo Xiuchen to carry.
“Ranran, no matter how much you buy, I won’t feel burdened. Besides, you don’t need to save money for me.”
Mo Xiuchen looked at her bracelet, which reflected dazzling blue light in the sunset, accentuating her fair skin.
Although she didn’t usually wear hand accessories, she actually looked very good in them.
Noticing his gaze on her bracelet, she playfully waved her hand in front of his eyes, teasing, “You may say you’re not bothered about me saving money, but you’ve been eyeing my bracelet for a while now. You must be feeling the pinch inside. Let me tell you, even if you regret it now, I won’t return or sell this bracelet.”
Amused by her antics, Mo Xiuchen laughed. The bracelet radiated light, enriching the depth of his gaze. “Ranran, I really don’t feel any loss. I feel like I’ve given you too few gifts.”
By the end of his confession, a trace of regret could be seen in his eyes.
Their marriage started without any emotions, so much so that he hadn’t even given her a wedding.
Later on, he had merely bought her a ring and subsequently gifted her a necklace.
Aside from these, it seemed that he hadn’t given her any precious gifts. And she never asked him for any presents.
