As he looked at his mother, it suddenly became tense between the two of them.

Sitting beside the man, Pei Ge noticed the mounting tension and quickly chimed in. “Mom, you know that your son doesn’t mean it that way. He’s trying to say that if you miss Lady Jingwan, you can call her to accompany you at home.”

There was an awkward look on her face. Although she did not wish to see that lady come to this house, she also did not want this mother-son duo to have conflict with each other over her. This was scarier than the problems in her company.

“Pei Ge is right, so learn from your wife. Learn how she spoke.”

Madam Ji was especially pleased tonight because the uncle-niece pair had given her an out. This time around, this young woman had given her an out really well, and regardless of what her son said, she would not be angry anymore.

“Mom, then, you’re...”

Pei Ge wanted to ask that, since she relented, would the older woman agree to his request of having a family gathering?

“I agree to it, but don’t say that it’s a family gathering. Since it’s for your company to seek new investors, I suggest that we don’t hold it at home but in one of our hotel chains. We have a presidential suite on the top floor which you can reserve anytime for the guests to stay the night. Also, regarding looking for investors, my son should know which one your company needs. I believe this. ”

The older woman offered her well-intentioned advice, and it created ripples in his eyes.

Just as when the man thought that he would argue with his mother over Qu Jingwan, his woman voiced her opinion. When he turned to look at her, he could see her looking at him nervously.

Ji Ziming reached out, placed his hand on top of hers, and calmly replied to his mother. “I got it. Why don’t you come and grace it then?”

“I will. Once you’re done with the preparation, I’ll be sure to show up.”

The older woman nodded. Feeling apologetic toward Qu Jingwan, she felt that that was the perfect time to apologize to the lady.

“Okay, mom. Then, we’ll head upstairs now.”

He held Pei Ge’s hand, but just as he moved to stand up, his mother exclaimed, “Wait a minute! Ziming, you stay here. I have matters to discuss with you. Ge Ge, you head up first. I noticed earlier that your eyes have dark circles. You should cherish your health while you’re young. Go rest first and my son will be with you shortly to share my discussion with him.”

Seeing the older woman’s care for her, Pei Ge felt touched and nodded. “I got it, mom. I’ll head upstairs first.”

She headed upstairs under the man’s watch which was full of fantasies. All these were seen by his mother.

“Son, have a seat. Tell me what’re you planning to do with Qu Xiujie?”

He knew that his mother would seek him regarding this matter, but this was not as simple as he initially thought, for there were some issues with it.

“Mom, do you think that it’s troublesome for Pei Ge’s uncle to stay here?” he inquired coldly, his brows furrowed as he looked at his mother.

The older woman suddenly became quiet as she looked at her son. She then spoke seriously. “Tell me what happened to him in the Qu family; why did the helpers tell me earlier today that there’s a car parked outside the mansion as though someone were spying on our family? I just want to know what troubles did that fella create outside.”

She looked at her son with a solemn expression.

“Pei Ge’s uncle can no longer return to that family—at least, not for now.”

His eyes were dark.

“Can no longer return? What does this mean?”

Madam Ji could not understand it. Qu Xiujie’s reputation was not very good. It was said that the Qu family had a spendthrift son and that it was that fella.

He kept creating trouble everywhere when he was younger, and his had to settle everything for him. Now, it seemed that Qu Xiujie had brought the troubles to her family and needed an old lady like her to settle them for him.

This was impossible.

“Let me tell you something, mom. Ge Ge’s mother is his sister; naturally, I have to ensure his safety. I can see that you don’t actually dislike him, and it’s fine to have some innocuous bickering with him when life is boring.”

There was a change in her eyes when he said that.

Looking at his son, she suddenly missed her husband who was still in the US. Both of them were more loving whenever they quarreled.

“Mom, what’s wrong?”

Seeing her in a daze, he shook her hand.

“Nothing, nothing. Since Qu Xiujie is staying in our house, and it’s impossible for him to listen to me, I want to go overseas for a few days to visit your father.”

Her voice drifted and went into her son’s ears.

“How’s dad’s condition?”

Ji Ziming sounded gentle. She had initially gone overseas to take care of his father, but because she was worried about what was happening in his and Pei Ge’s companies, she had rushed home without taking their family’s private jet.

“He’s alright. It isn’t a big problem to begin with. It’s just a case of your father neglecting his health. Don’t worry. Once your gathering you’re hosting is concluded, I’ll head to the US to be with your father.”

She smiled at her son. “Return to your room now. If you head back late, Ge Ge won’t be able to fall asleep.”

“That’s of course. I’m Ji Ziming, and nobody is equal to me.”

The man’s lips curled as he looked at his mother’s darkening face.

“Aren’t you leaving? If you don’t, she’s gonna get angry.”

Madam Ji smiled and looked at her son’s confident look. She patted his shoulder and chided, “You go and talk to her. I’ll wait for your update.”
