Chapter 83 - 83 Next Time
“Here, drink this. It’ll help soothe your stomach,” Xie Heng said. “Chuchu, Mr. Niu, have some too.”
“Keep that. I have something better. ” Zhao Chuchu took out some digestion tablets and signaled the rest to open their mouths before tossing one into each of their mouths. “Chew on it before swallowing.”
Xie Juna and Niu An didn’t even ask what the tablets were and just did as they were told.
After a short while, the owner invited Zhao Chuchu and Xie Heng to the room next to theirs. He then gave Zhao Chuchu the money that he had prepared.
“Miss, please check if everything is here or not.”
There was one 500 silvers bank note, two 100 silvers bank notes, and two links of coins totaling 2000 cents; the rest were in silvers.
“Everything is here. Thank you.” Zhao Chuchu nodded happily.
“Miss, if you ever hunt anything good in the future, remember to sell them to me as well.” The owner smiled.
“Of course,” Zhao Chuchu replied.
As the sun had already set, Zhao Chuchu decided to stay in the town for the night.
After keeping the money safe, she helped Xie Heng walk, led Xie Jun and Niu An to an inn, and asked for two rooms.
Since they were legally married, Zhao Chuchu and Xie Heng had to stay in the same room.
The innkeeper had brought a bucket of hot water for them to shower.
Thinking that Xie Heng was inside the room with her, Zhao Chuchu got slightly uncomfortable.
“I’ll go play with Junjun first.” Xie Heng got up and left on his own accord after seeing that the lady had the intention to bathe.
Zhao Chuchu was glad that Xie Heng would understand.
In the end, the man stayed in Xie Jun’s room and tested his little brother to see if the boy had memorized the passage he had taught two days ago. He used that as an excuse to stay there for a while and didn’t return until Zhao Chuchu had finished bathing.
“Huh?” Zhao Chuchu looked at Xie Heng, who was sitting by the table and had no intention of cleaning himself. “Aren’t you going to bathe?”
“No. I’ll bathe once we get back tomorrow.” Xie Heng took the blindfold down and put it on the table.
Under the dim candlelight, his black eyes looked even darker, and he was now staring at the lady.
“Why are you staring at me?” Zhao Chuchu touched her face. “Is there something on my face?”
Xie Heng looked at her reaction and grinned. “I was just curious.”
“Huh?”
“Get some rest.”
Zhao Chuchu was speechless. She walked up to him and covered his eyes with her hand.
Xie Heng pushed her hand away and asked, “What’s wrong?”
The lady sat down next to the man. “Are you going to study after this?”
“Why are you asking this?”
“Won’t it be a waste if you don’t study after becoming a scholar at such an early age?”
“I thought you were planning to leave?” Xie Heng replied to her question with another question of his own.
“I still am. But, wouldn’t it be good to have a government official as a friend?”
There was no way she would refuse to have more connections.
After a moment of silence, Xie Heng replied, “I will continue to study. It’s late. Let’s get some sleep.”
Seeing how the man kept persuading her to get some rest, she asked, “Aren’t you going to sleep?”
“I’ll stay up for tonight.”
Zhao Chuchu let out a sigh and decided to let him be.
She climbed onto the bed and covered herself with the blanket. She fell asleep soon after that.
Xie Heng remained sitting by the table until it was late in the night. He had yet to change his position.
He had his eyes close, trying to get some rest without sleeping. Suddenly, he opened his eyes wide.
It was as if his eyes were a pair of swords that just got unsheathed.
At the same time, Zhao Chuchu sat up straight instantly.
She rolled out of bed and hurried to the window. She peeked outside before whispering, “Quickly! Hide!”
The sharpness in the man’s eyes was gone.
He looked at the tiny lady by the window, trying to protect him. At that moment, something that was deep inside his heart got out.
“Will there be a next time?” he suddenly thought and was quickly surprised by what he had in mind.
“Be careful!” Zhao Chuchu said and jumped out the window. She quickly disappeared into the night.
